Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 1 week ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

"Placement of the scan is compositionally strong, but I find the void tends to be excessive and gives an impression of a lack of ideas rather than a thoroughly considered a element. I also find that the areas of noise on the scan read as moire and thusly a poor cleaning job rather than a considered texture.

It's certainly not one of your stronger works.

Consider adding additional elements to stop the eye being lead off the canvas by the void. Also reconsider the choice of texture used if it is indeed texture or otherwise de-moire the remaining areas of noise."

"Your energy would be better spent learning to take more care than making excuses for your rejections. Yes they've been over simple things but doesn't that mean they could have been simply avoided by paying more attention to what you're actually doing rather than rushing through the submission process?

In regard to your wallpaper, the appearance of stars in front of the moon disturbs me. The planet is doomed."

Beyond The Mountains..(Okami)

"There are several issues that in my opinion require attention.

1. Intergration of the scan into the background: There is absolutely nothing to ground amaratsu and in doing so to tie her to the background so that she appears part of the image rather than an overlayed image. The obvious solution would be to add a shadow.

2. Background depth and construction: To be blunt, a similar effect could be created in a basic paint program within a matter of minutes once a bamboo brush had been located. The background is meant to be your chance to demonstrate talent and artistry. The bulk of the work should as such go into its construction.

Note the methods of shading and layering applied to the character scan to give her depth. Your background at present is devoid of such techniques, albeit a small amount of shading in the two tones of the "mountains".

3. Composition: I get the feeling the sun was introduced so that the sky was recognisable as a sky rather than as a considered element. Given its hue and placement its a distraction to the wallpaper and as such should be reconsidered compositionally.

Remember to challenge yourself when making something new rather than use the same tired techniques and habits. By doing so you'll find your skills will improve and your images will too."

"Quite frankly I'm tempted to remove this wallpaper. As a community member you should be able to accurately guage what is and isn't acceptable without the intervention of staff. At most you've cleaned a scan which by our guidelines is not considered sufficient effort to gain entry into the gallery. Had this gone through approval, it would have been rejected immediately on those grounds.

Your ability is meant to be demonstrated in the integration of an existing image into a background of your own creation. This is where the artistry lies. Repainting parts of the image would be considered part and parcel of the process and not the process in its entirity.

If you've any respect for the rules to which you're bound and the community of which you've the privilidge and responsibility of being a promoted member within (and thusly a role model), I have no doubt you'll do what is right in this situation."

"One of the very few actual approvals (most are rejections) to pass me by and there wasn't even a moment of hesitation in doing so. Nice work. Would I be correct in picking a Tetsuya Nomura influence in your submission?"

I Miss You...So Much...

"There's a few elements detracting from your overall work that I'd suggest attending to.

1. The hot wax filter used is not an overly good choice. It's instantly recognisable as a stock filter and is destructive in that it reduces the clarity of your line work.

2. Symmetrical composition. Symmetry tends to reduce compositional strength as there becomes less areas of focus. Consider the use of offset or rotation to increase compositional interest.

3. Somewhat arbitrary stock usage. I can't even begin to fathom the relationship sepia toned trees seen from a slow moving car have to do with two gothic lolitas sitting in a library. Like it or not, viewers will attempt to construct a narrative to tie elements of the piece together. If something doesn't fit this narrative it can be jarring and distracting."

"As it stands you've not exactly added to the image as it was originally. The only addition as such is the textual elements. As such this falls into the category of vectored screenshot + simple background = wall which is not something that will be accepted.

Compositionally your work is strong however the execution is let down by your use of the low res image to add texture and to fill the details of your vector in. The textual image however does better demonstrate your ability and by extending that ability to more of the image, the image as a whole will improve."

"There are minor extraction issues on gin and the logo that need to be addressed.

Compositionally your work is fairly strong however your sakura petals would benefit from having a little more variation. From what I can see they're all the same brush with only differing opacity and rotation."

"You need to edit the category because this doesn't appear to be .hack//DUSK related at all.

Text placement could be stronger and the interaction between foreground and background elements needs to be attended to."

"In all fairness I'd have to say this qualifies as low effort. As you have no background or textual elements, you are relying on the strength of the vector for success. The vector itself could be stronger. There are a few instances where you've used non uniform line weights (specifically around the eyes and for "smile lines") whilst the rest remains uniform. A strong vector should have varied line weights through out as this is more natural and expected of a drawing."

"Its improved from when I last saw it but could still use work. You are largely being restricted by your choice of software as MS Paint lacks many of the features useful for image manipulation. It may be worth investigation GIMP. Its free and has a similar toolset to Photoshop and the like.

Compositionally the text is places at extremes which tend to leave them isolated from the image. The background itself simplistic and again isolated. Overlapping plays a large part in tying parts of an image together into a whole.

As Luna also mentions the image is not official art. As the FAQ suggests the image will need to be submitted to the relevant artist's category and not to the Eureka 7 category."

"The signature present could cause some confusion and needs to be either changed or explained.

There is nothing in the composition tying the images together. There is also no consistency in their style. You need to look for a way to tie each of these separate images into one whole."
