This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

It Might Have Been

"I've always admired the original image, and I definitely like the "emptiness" of the right half of the wall. The asymmetry appeals to me. You've got some texture and effects there that tie into the pattern of the robe, keeping it interesting yet simple. It has an autumnal melancholy that suits Subaru's character. Not every wall needs to be labeled with the series and/or chara name (or is that just me? seems that ways sometimes). I like it very much as is, and I've downloaded it for my walls folder. Nice!"

The Tale of the ChibiJiraiya

"Makes me wanna squeeze him till his eyes pop. I really (really) like the simple background, especially the angular geometrics. There are plenty of walls out there that fill every corner - I find I'm especially drawn to images like this one, where less really IS more. The empty space is a plus, for me. Nice work!"

"I really like your edits on this. Nice. The sakura hit me first - you've added a sense of volume that gives the illusion of a breeze moving gently through the blossoms. There's a new, cloudlike quality (I can't begin to imagine how long it took to get the right balance for that) that brings a soft, dreamlike flavor. Removing the pattern from the fabric works well, lending an elegant simplicity. (One patterned kimono would've been a nice touch, but both of them... a bit much, for my taste. Sorry, Clamp.) I like your choices on the color substitutions as well. This is very nice work - and lots of it, I daresay!"

"I like this one. I'm a sucker for wallpapers that whisper for attention... The main part of the image is in the upper-left quadrant, which adds visual interest, in my book. You've left the right side and bottom dark and pretty plain - my icons won't get lost on a graphic background, yet it doesn't scream "dock". I don't have any problem with the framing device, myself. I freely admit I'm not a fan of lettering on desktops, and I think it would be even more appealing without the text. Overall, bonus points for being bold enough to go dark and plain rather than laying on texture and visual pizzaz. Really nice."

Petals

"The two images really do mesh well - nice choices! I tend to avoid walls with added text (titles, logos, poetry, whatever), but it's so subdued in this piece that the "X" rather enhances the whole. I like the size of the petals, too - more "leafy" and robust. Nicely done."

"I really like the simpler, more off-the-wall pieces like this one. If you're familiar with the show, you get it. No GitS logos, no extra texture. It's instantly recognizable as a Tachikoma. I wouldn't've been particularly interested if it had featured a full Tachikoma - there's a zen simplicity to this closeup-view that I find very appealing. Nice job."

"This is the sort of background I like to slip into when someone's going to be looking over my shoulder. It's cute, yet the extremecloseup is not what they're expecting, even from me. It's relatively simple (deceptively so, from the work you describe), but high impact. The pressing-against-the-screen aspect doesn't come across on my monitor (1280 version), but I don't have a problem with that. Although the final image may not reflect the fullness of your artistic intent, I still like the wallpaper. (I'm going to add it to my screensaver slideshow, too.)"

We Live in Two Different worlds.

"I was completely taken with the "painting" at the end of the anime, and that definitely colors my perception of this image. There's a real sense of motion as the clouds/mist break against or around the figure - nice work on the swirl of turbulence and chop in its "wake". And despite being built around a rather macabre image (all those vertebrae!), the overall effect is calm and quite serene. I like this one a lot!"

"What a great job - you've really enhanced the original scan. Nice richness added to the colors. Thanks for all the work you put into this."
