I don't think people have quite grasped the fact that Xeno and I manage AA completely independent of of AP, and in no way, shape, or form will associate anything we do with the paper system. Anything that ahppens here is 100% completely free with no strings attached. Also, I am already hosting Bleach every week for direct download- that will continue.

So here's the deal- I'm going to compromise on this whole thing and do this:
1) you guys can vote for your favorite currently running series, and it will be hosted for direct download every week, just like Bleach is now.
2) if you want a personal FTP account to store your files, images, whatever- you can have up to 100mb for that, and I'll allow up to 200 accounts. This account may nto be used for storing any pornographic (hentai) content, US licensed music, or other stuff along that line.
3) If you have a website you would like hosted, I'll do that too. You will need to submit a request with some details about your site, and a layout in progress or completed- I don't want to host junkie sites.

I'm still open for ideas, but the mentioned points will stand as an offer, unless no one participates."

"As far as A, all the sites i know of offering direct-downloads of anime have membership fees or donation requirements. There are a lot fo sites with bit-torrent hosting, but not actual http downloads, which is much faster than BT.

As far as C, my server is borderline paranoid when it comes to security, so access is strictly through FTP only. You could however, put up a blank index page and just add a link to the files you wanted to share on it.

Storing mangas is prefectly possible, but once again, links to each zip pack (chapter or whatever) would have to be updated manually, unless a PHP interface was designed. I am not willing to integrate AA and AP, as they are seperate entities, and don't pool their resources. I'm actually a supporting member of AP, though my status/profile doesn't show it, haha. I also feel that AP is displacing many smaller personal sites with it's hugeness, somewhat like minitokyo, and I would like to promote independent sites as much as possible through the hosting thing.

I AM NOT GOING TO HOST MANGA AND ANIME THAT IS LICENSED AND SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES, SO DON'T ASK. this is a breech of my server agreement, and it could land me in jail for piracy."

"Yah i know those image sites are a pain in the butt.. I can't allow massive storage cause then I'd really have to limit the number of users.. you can store a lot of images on 100 mb.. as long as people didn't abuse it I would not be very strict about it."

"Ok, here's the scoop- We had more than enough space and bandwidth than we needed on our server to begin with, but our host company just upgraded our package BIG TIME. We've got about 10 times as much storage and transfer now, so we're trying to figure out the best way to use it, and if anyone has ideas or needs somethin'

Options:
A) Host direct http downloads of some popular animes. Currently I am hosting the weekly bleach episodes.
B) Offer unlimited hosting deals for anime/comic/graphics sites.
C) Personal storage accounts with 50-100MB limits
D) something else?

At any rate, I'm open to ideas.. if you want something, just ask and We'll try and help out.

second, this wouldn't count as a wall even if it was bigger because it's just a few pictures with some writing
third, i woudl tell you how to improve the background, but there ISN'T a background- it's just blank white.
I can't really tell you where to go with this because you haven't even started. Some text and a few pictures isn't a wallpaper- it's text and pictures. It is up to you to come up with some kind of design or idea for a background- that is part fo the artistic process. If you don't ahve any ideas for a background at all, then there is no point in posting in session zero because we aren't going to tell you what kind of wall to make. The point of this forum is to give you advice on how to improve upon your design or how to create what is in your head. If there isn't a picture in your head, then we can't help you develop it. "

"Another vote for lighter text. The text should have more flair and fancy crap going on too- the background is so involved that the text sticks out too much since it's kidna thick and doesn't have enough pizzazz. The "flying angel" text sticks our really bad and needs to be moved, lightened, adn have a different font. The way you integrated the girl works pretty good, nice style, but the blurring is a little too heavy around the hair and gown. Try and keep it a little sharper."

"Well, the angel really is low quality.. you need to do some re-cg work on it or something to bring up teh quality. Screen-caps are a bad source for images cause they are never very high quality. The background just looks like you made a few stripes fo color then smudged the living hell out of them. Try creating some scenery or patterns or something. The background doesn't look like it is in any way related to the image- there is no connection in color, style, meaning, or setting. How does the image related to the background? if you can't explain it then chances are it doesn't. "

"I'd be stupid if I thought people weren't gonna repost my material around the internet, but the fact I'm an affiliate of AP and have them as the default forum link and such, you woudl think people would be smart enough to know I'm going to see the stuff re-posted over here, geez. Putting sigs on scans is dumb because it makes the scan less useful to people who use it. If you fix up the scan and improve it, then I'm fine with that, but it's just when the image gets downloaded by someone who doesn't even use it in a wall, then they repost it without improving upon it. I'm not the artist, so it isn't my work, but it does cost me time and money to circulate it on the web. Websites try to maintain a certain level of individuality, that's the only way they survive and hold a steady visitor base. It shouldn't be AP's responsibility to investigate every submission cause that takes way too much time and effort. If you didn't scan it or ask for permission to share it, then keep it to yourself, it's that simple. People aren't going to listen to this though, so they go off to a site like AA or APA or something and d/l a bunch of scans so that they can earn papers in order to get a scan they want off AP. The paper system is what is causing the massive breach because it is giving incentive to low-lifes. If you don't need papers to get scans, then you won't upload scans to get papers. I understand that AP wants to protect the leeching problem and wants to encourage legit submissions, but the system just ain't working. There isn't really a good way to prevent the problem without having tons of back-up, like people having to show receipts or some crap for the material they used, haha. Anyway, i host all kinds of crap to share with people 100% free and don't mind giving it away, I just don't like losing my identity and am a bit insulted by the stupidity of people who leech from affiliates. "

"Eh, I report what I see, but I don't expect the admins to memorize the scan library on my site. Xenohawk is and admin, and he doesn't even know half the scans what are on our site, haha! Almost every scan here on AP was ripped from another site and reposted, it's just a matter of finding which one. I can only think of a small handful of people on AP that actually scan their own material, or ask permission to use stuff from other sites. At least no one is submitting my walls and changign the sigs, LOL. I've seen some peopel ebay selling prints of stuff that was stolen from people I know, which is the worst. If thigns keep getting bad I'll trying putting watermarks ont eh scans, or eventually just takign the gallery down. If my content is all over teh freakin web, what's the point of keeping my site up?"

"I don't know where else to post this, but I'm really starting to get annoyed- every week I look through the scans here on AP under that categories that I have scanned material for animationalliance.net, the site that Xenohawk and I run. on a near-weekly basis, I find a scan that has been downloaded from AA.net, then uploaded here. Here's the thing- I spend money on those pictures, I spent money on the scanner, I spent money on my computer, I spend money to keep the site online, and no one has ever bothered to say thank-you ONCE or donation a damn penny to offset the hundereds of $$ a year it costs to keep the site up and serve those scans. I give time, money, server space, graphic help, and more away to just about anyone that asks for it and has some decency and respect. When you take the stuff I have paid to put online and re-upload it here for some paper credit where a membership and a bunch of stupid paper points are required to get the scan, you destroy what I'm doing, which is giving the stuff away FREE with NO REQUIREMENTS. Also, you are destroying the unique qualities of my site- most of my scans are rather rare and don't pop up on many other sites. Those scans are there for you to use all you want for yourself. if you want to "share" it, then give my link to somone and don't re-distribute it all over the friggin planet. I haven't posted new scan content for awhile because people can't seem to get the clue.
