Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 1 week ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Vampires and Schoolgirls

"Very nice! *_* I like both, but the background for the Black Blood Brothers one seems a little bit empty and, around the character, a little rough. The second wallpaper has some rough spots where the image was cloned/redrawn to lengthen the ceiling to make it tall enough. Otherwise, they're both very good!"

"@ Danalm: Thanks for the suggestions! What do you mean by the lines are vanishing? Sorry... I'm really new to this. ><

@ alienMkys-Comin: The buttons! I forgot. >< Thanks for pointing that out. I'll do my best. ^^

Does anyone have any suggestions/tips/tutorials/helps on cleaning scans, and how to notice what needs cleaned?"

"Thanks everyone for the constructive crit! I really appreciate it! It's intentional that the one character is desaturated. I wanted to make him seem separate from the vibrant colors. Does it look bad?

@ doki: Do you know any ways to clean scans? I'm sorta new to it, so I'm pretty clueless."

Diary of Snow, my first attempt

"I like the image you used. The small version is clean and nice-looking, but the larger image seems too blurred. I'd suggest using just one image - the large one, not blurred, and working from there. Using brushes or textures might help, and I think another font might do better to express the feel of the wallpaper. As anime-girl pointed out, dafont.com is a great place to look. Also, filling some of the blank space would make the wallpaper look more attractive. Best of luck. ^^"

Aria wall needs to go the next step

"It's a very pretty image, but it seems to be just a tiny bit dim. Raising the contrast might help to make the colors more vibrant. The text seems a little awkward to me, too... it stands out quite a bit against the calm, cool pastels of the image. The background's lines are smooth, but the text's edges are sharp, so it seems like it's not really a part of the image. Softening the text might help, I think. Otherwise, it's very beautiful. *_*"

First Wallpaper

"Firstly... CONGRATS on your first wallpaper! It's always a big step to start out with something like this.

I have a few quick thoughts for you. The pictures you chose are nice, but it looks like they were cut and then just pasted onto one another and tinted. I'd suggest cutting the image out and making a background of your own. Coloring it might help, too. There are a lot of tutorials out there for various graphic progams to help you along."

I need critics.....

"Ooh, very nice! The render of the characters is good, and I like the overall look. The text seems too obscured and blurry, though, and the pictures at the top, though pretty, don't seem to blend well with the rest of the image."

I worked on this one for a while, and I'm at last pretty happy with the text and scan. Even though the image is a really pretty one, I made this with the last episodes in mind, so it came out kind of sad. I think.

Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.

'Stone Chalk Monument'

"This one's pretty cool! I like the placement of the text and the characters, but the symbols you have off to the left look like they're floating in front of the rock rather than on it... but that was probably intentional. The characters maybe look a little too texturized, though. It seems like there might be a little too much space to either side of the characters, but it also leaves icon room, so that might turn out to be a good thing.

I like the overall layout of the wallpaper. ^^"

There has to be more to life

"If you want to avoid the compression and jagginess that you get from JPEG images, I'd suggest saving it in ".png " until your very last revision. As it is now, with repeated saves in .jpg, the whole image may become more compressed.

I can't decide which clouds I like. >< The clouds in both images look very good! I like how you got rid of the compression by blurring the BG. ^^ I like the motion blur in the second one. ^^ It keeps the blur effect while at the same time, lending it some depth. I think this is just me, but the smoke looks a tiny bit awkward... though the concept of it fits well with the text. A landscape racing past with black smoke curling toward the sky might not be inspiring for poor Sophie. ^^

Keep up the great work. ^^"

"I'm sorry! I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post again, but I just looked and saw your revision. Please forgive me for not seeing that earlier! I'm very sorry. I like this version much better! The way the leaves were cut out left some white around the edges, though. If you're still using GIMP, and rendered them there, I'd suggest feathering the image (at a rate of two or three, maybe) before cutting out the background. If you haven't already done that, it might help to blend them into the background better. The bird brushes you used are jagged, and stand out a little too much - except for the one on the bottom, which fits in pretty nicely.

Sorry again. I can't believe I missed the revision. ><"

L Wallpaper

1 year 9 months ago

"This is a nice idea! I love L. The extraction of the image of him is pretty rough though, in a couple places. It looks like you kept a little bit of the old beige background. The background of the wallpaper itself doesn't seem to match with the image or its textures, either. I really like the words for the text, though. Kind of sad, but very cool. This is looking good so far. ^^"

"You use GIMP? Omigosh! I do too, for the most part. ^^ I love it.

This is really good! The clouds in the second image look slightly off, and there are some small problems with the textures. For example, Sophie has a dotted scan-pattern on her entire body from wherever she was cut from, but the city background has more of a painted look - and has slight corruption from JPEG compression. I don't know if the text is permanent, but it's slightly pixellated; I'd suggest using a different color text, too, to match with the vivid background.

I'm sorry to talk so much. This is a beautiful wallpaper, and I love your choice of Sophie as a female role model, because she's one of the best female anime characters I can think of."

LoveCom wallpaper, need approval

1 year 9 months ago

"This looks amazing. The colors are vibrant, and everything is spectacularly clean. It's breath-taking to look at! The polka-dot background on the right is a little smaller, and the character higher, making it seem like somehow, the second half of the wallpaper is further back. It seems a little lopsided, maybe? But please ignore me; that's just my horrible obsession with symmetry. This is great. It looks like you put a lot of work into it."

Bleach IchiRuki Wallpaper

"The simple, journal-style look is intentional, and the images I used are sketches Kubo did of the two. I couldn't help using them. I'm afraid my resources for image editing are limited, but I'd greatly appreciate any constructive criticism.

Hmm. I dislike the "Jokerman" font. Doesn't really fit with the word "memories". I'm not sure about the checkered strip on the side, either. Maybe something more...flowing? That fits with "memories". Possibly some pale swirls/bars on the side. This is difficult to explain, but it'd be sort of to the side, and the font and colors would spread outward from it. Er. Sorry that didn't make much sense. One more thing! I would avoid using a 100% white background. It's painful to look at on the moniter if it's your desktop. Otherwise, nice scan and coloring.

Wow, thank you for the constructive criticism! I will definitely work on the background to make it something less bright. I think I sort of understand what you mean about the thing on the side... I suppose I'll try something once I figure out how to use GIMP. Maybe I can do something in there. LOL, as it is, I hardly know how to open the program. I'm really only used to Paint and little things. Thank you again for the suggestions! You're very kind, and I appreciate that you took the time to give some suggestions! ^__^"

Ah...Windows XP. I downloaded the program itself, then it said I needed this other thing, so... I looked and clicked the one for Windows XP. Is there anything else? I guess there's some kind of manual or something, though."

Regardless of whether or not I like Trigun, you're off to a good start. The image you chose is nice and simple. However, it could be cleaned, and the lines look sharp to me. I tihnk the image would look better with a shadow below it. The checkerboard design at the left doesn't suit the image, I'd remove it all together. The font you used, Jokerman, doesn't fit the image, and I think the wallpaper would look better without text. To be honest, I think if you were to add a shadow, vector the scan, and add a curve brush behind the image it'd be perfect. The image you chose works well with negative space. However much I like the image, it seems like you added a checkerboard pattern, feathered it, and put on text- which isn't enough to get it accepted. With some additional work, I think the result will be great.

Thank you so much for the kind and constructive criticism! I'll remember your suggestions. I'm afraid that I don't have photoshop or anything that I could make shadows with, though. In fact, as pathetic as I may seem by saying this, I made it entirely in Paint (cleaned and colored the image in Paint, as well as adding text) and then tinted it in a sample version of a photo editor that my dad has. LOL, I don't want to bother my mom with asking for a more expensive photo editor, so I sorta try to make do with what we have on our computer. Thank you again for the suggestions, though. I'll pay more attention to that kind of thing when making wallpapers in the future."
