"Watched 5 minutes of the anime, and hated it. Wimpy guy got bullied in school, but having this dreams of "other worlds", blah blah blah. Quite the same feeling when I'm watching the clumsy secretary in the first episode of Elfen Lied -- except that in EL, the annoying bitch DIES.

My recommendation is to swtich from this anime to something else, preferably with a more original storyline. "

"Too many to list here, but I'll list my *current* favourites.

Bleach - if you still have no idea about this anime by now, go and die. Seriously.

Elfen Lied - cute girl with cat's ears, a guy + houseful of girls, what's not to like? And of course, there's the dismemberment and massacres in every episode...

Inuyasha - the manga is awesome. And the anime is the manga come to life. Therefore, the anime is at least as awesome as the manga.

Loveless - cat's ears sans the bloodbath (see "Elfen Lied", above). Hey, it's still a very angsty yet strangely appealing anime. Too bad about the yaoi, but you can't have everything your way.

That said, I once watched Yami no Matsuei with my (older) sister and mother. My sister looks... impressed with the yaoi-ness, while my mother kept asking, "aren't those two guys? Why are they so close?" Hilarious if you understand the cultural context.

"So, anyone here do Magic? And of course, I'm talking about the game, not the bunny-out-of-hat variety.

Back in my days *messages tired old bones*, Magic, while complicated, is still within the comprehension of mortals. But these days, with the newfangled rules, I strongly suspect that the whole thing is actually something lawyers play to train for their future career.

The latest expansion, Betrayers of Kamikagawa features even more new features ("ninjutsu" comes to mind) and rediculously overpowered spells (the stupid jitte comes in mind). I think not even someone with a bunch of Alpha cards and Black Lotus can win against a well-designed BOK deck.

At any rate, Magic Online is my *first* ever network game I've played (well, I only got broadband last week), so suffice to say, this game is.. addictive. And wallet-draining, too.

Bah! Anyone else here play this game? Or am I the only one? "

Of course, I'm actually quite right. At any rate, I've read up to the 4th volume of the manga, and while it's exciting, it's also very... cluttered. The manga is so beautifully drawn and detailed, it risks suffocating my optic nucleus with overstimulation.

Manga vs. Anime

"In general, anime > manga. I thrive on visual and auditory stimuli. Also, while a scanned manga's quality is variable (especially older ones), I can usually find high-quality anime based on that manga, which immensely add to the enjoyment. I don't regret watching Fruits Basket first before reading it.

Of course, the manga has the advantage of being :

a) more sexually-liberated
b) can have more twists and turns
c) cheaper to produce = more of 'em (compared to anime)"

If it's the former, then during the Elder Days, I have tonnes of manga. Dragon Ball Z, Crayon Shin Chan, Doraemon, Rurouni Kenshin, Hajime Kindaichi.. those were the times...

As for the latter, I have too many than I care to list. Suffice to say that, during my last backup, it took 2 DVDs to burn all the manga I want to keep. Yes, "to keep"; I deleted tonnes of other manga I don't really like."
