"Humm interesting...I'll absolutely take your points into consideration. Thats interesting though, on my monitor I can't really make out the stock image...but if you guys can see it, then maybe theres something wrong with my monitor XD

I'll take a few hours/a day off of it and come back to it. Maybe I'll have some fresh ideas or a new outlook then. Thanks again for the help, I appreciate the fact that you guys are trying to save my papers =P

"What they say about mice and men holds true. I was originally setting out for a scenic look, but I just couldn't get it right. I decided to backtrack, and go for a more abstract look that you can see here.

Quick explanation: after looking at a few tutorials, I got the idea to create an "ice" effect directly above gradient layers which cover the stock image. After that, I created those accent stripes you see that go across the wall behind Illyasviel. Lastly, after trying a couple attempts at making snow (vestiges from the scenic phase) I decided to decorate the wallpaper with "snowballs" that I think accent the wall nicely. Add in a couple of brushes to accent the text and there you have it.

As it stands, I feel that I am about ready to submit the wallpaper. I think it shows a well constructed theme throughout, with a decent color scheme and organization. All in all, I'm happy with this version as a final product. I think it looks great, but theres another reason I think its best to stop here: with what I feel is a well developed theme (perhaps it could be called a wintry mix), I want to stay away from adding too much stuff in. I think it's best as a clean, simple wallpaper.

Anyway, enough babbling from me. I hope you guys like it. Hopefully, if I submit this tomorrow, everyone else will like it too =P

"Lol I had already started making this wallpaper when the vector advice came in. having to re-do an image again (I made a mistake in my first extraction attempt) wasn't high on my list of priorities, especially since I found another usable image. However, the advice on vectoring will probably be used in later wallpapers, so its appreciated :).

Its good to know that the extraction was done well. Its hard to tell, but the stock image (background) is actually made up of 5 different layers, each with different interactions and filters. On top of that is the gradient fill layers and brushes. However, if its not up to QC standards, I'm willing to work on it. I think a scenic design would work much better, especially since it was what I was going for originally. So maybe a vector of the stock image (or something like it) instead? I'm def going for a snow theme, to match the scan. Its really too bad an abstract background design seems easier to engineer, but it can't be helped =P.

Anyway, thanks for the input. It's been very helpful thus far, and hopefully I'll be able to finish and upload this wall."

"Lol its all good.

Well a bunch of hours later (plus a couple re-trys) I've finished what I believe to be at the least a "basic" version of the wallpaper. What I mean is this, its something that I'd be more than happy to have on my desktop, but I'm not sure how everyone else feels. So I'd like people's opinions on what could be improved so that its AP ready^^

The wallpaper can be found here, and weighs in at 1280x960 and around 250kb. The brush behind Illya is from echoica brushes, and I got the stock image from stock.xchng from a user named SharonRB. Hopefully you guys won't hate it =P. "

Sad Endings or Happy Endings?

"Lol, it seems like a lot of you guys like sad endings. I really have no preference myself- I'll watch any show as long as its good regardless of what ending style it has. I normally don't go out of my way to watch sad anime's (my feeling is I like to watch anime/movies to escape) but as long as the story's good I'll watch it all the way through.

What I don't like is a series like Kimi Ga Nozomou Eien- that was just way too much sadness "

"One of my most interesting teachers was a Pre-Calculus teacher I had back in high school. He was a pretty good teacher, especially compared to the other pre-calc teacher, but thats not what made him memorable. He had a pretty interesting personality- he always seemed like he was "high-strung". He wouldn't yell at us or belittle us (though he would make fun of you for the class' enjoyment if the opportunity presented itself)- the best way I can describe it is that he had a lot of built up tense energy. That, and he had some allergy to chalk (bad for a teacher right?) so he'd always wear a work glove while teaching.

He was a good teacher and knew his stuff, it was just his mannerisms that made him memorable."

"I've been a member here for a few months now, and I've just decided to sit down and start working on my first wallpaper. In terms of my photoshop skills, I know my way around the basic parts of the program, and I've extracted character images before (usually for forum sigs). However, I've never been able to find a solution to the problem below...

Taking for example, this Fate/ Stay Night scan, is there a way to remove the text and graphics from in front of her? I'm not really sure if this is possible, and I've looked around the net for answers but haven't been able to find any so far. So before I give up and decide to find another scan, I thought I'd ask here first =P.

Homework

"In high school, I used to save everything for the last minute. During those four years I manged to develop a very acute sense of what assignments needed to be completed, and which ones didn't =P

Now that I'm in college, I'm actually starting to develop a better work ethic, though I wouldn't go as far to say that its a complete reversal from high school. I usually managed to get all my stuff in on time though. However, now that finals are approaching, my "tomo-chan"-esque work ethic is returning.

Ah well, thats never been a problem before XD "

Smoking

"I smoke, though no more than a pack a week with friends. Personally, I find it enjoyable, though I know many people can't stand it. I think that everyone should be free to do what they want, be it to smoke or abstain.

One thing that annoys me from time to time is when people seem to lash out against smokers. I understand that there are those out there who hate it, and they should be free to voice their opinions against it, but please, keep your objections reasonable =P. I just don't like it when people give us nasty looks, or cough unreasonably at us even when we're outside.

Also, one thing that I am personally against is total smoking bans. I can understand how it is a good idea to ban smoking indoors at establishments where children maybe present. What I'm not in favor for is banning smoking in "adult" places like bars. I think that in places such as bars, the smoking ban should be optional and the final decision should be given to the owner of the bar.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. "

"I'm going to have to go against the grain here. I can see how it would win the honors it did, but I have to say that I didn't like it that much. It was a little to over the top for my tastes. I understand that the movie had a message, but I didn't think it needed to be that "in your face". I got the point of the movie within the fist five minutes, and stopped watching half way through.

"Lol, I don't really care what girls wear for their underwear. It's all good really. For me, I prefer boxers, just because they're more comfortable. I think theres also a general perception that boxers are "cooler" but once your out of high school and you don't have gym class anymore, I suppose it really doesn't matter what you wear. The only person who'd see anything would be your roommates or your girlfriend/boyfriend.

Its whatever is comfortable really. Though I gotta say, wearing comfortable boxers comes at a price- they can be quite expensive."

"The trouble with it is that to a fanatic, the ends always justifies the means. People looking in from the outside might not understand why a fanatic is so dedicated to a cause, even if that cause brings about trouble and destruction. To the fanatic, their dedication to their cause and what they do to support it may be the only way they think that they can bring about a solution to a problem.

Also, sometimes we (as in non-fanatics) may be the cause for that fanaticism in the first place. When WWI was ended, a peace treaty was forced upon the losing powers that effectively humiliated them and destroyed their nation. Its not had to argue that the peace treaty and these feelings of humiliation played a large part in the rise of the Nazi party. Also, in terms of middle east terrorism, the creation of the state of Israel after WW2 played a part in that as well.

All in all, while you might not agree with what a fanatic does, its important to keep in mind that the situation isn't always black and white. We may have very well played a part in creating those feelings of fanaticism.

"Yeah, the animation isn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but I really can't complain. I think Chiaki will loosen up as the show progresses, but it speaks to Nodame's character to take so much abuse lol.

Speaking about the music from the show, I really like the intro theme, Allegro Cantabile. I've been trying to find the full length version with no luck. Maybe I'll end up buying the OST or the band's CD or something^^

Madlax : Japanese or English version?

"I've actually never seen the English version, but I did finish the Japanese version last month. Personally, I didn't have much of a problem with the voice acting, and I really did enjoy the show.

That said, I wouldn't doubt that the English dub could be good. Though it seems rare, there are actually a few good English dubs out there (I have a dubbed version of Outlaw Star that is pretty good, and I've always heard that the dubbed Princess Mononoke was excellent, but I've only seen the Japanese version of that). What you say makes me want to get the English version now to check it out lol."
