After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Clock Speed Vs FSB
1 year 4 weeks ago
"I'm not a pro at this kind of stuff but wasn't there a saying somewhere which said that clock speeds became irrelevant several years ago?My 1.6GHz laptop certainly runs A LOT FASTER than my 1.6GHz Pentium 4... I read somewhere that newer chips does more work in the same amount of clock cycles compared to older chips. Now manufacturers focus more on efficiency rather than clock speeds... I'd go for the newer Phenom series if I were you (personal uneducated guess).
--------------------------------- Off topic section, Importance Level: 1/10 (skip if you don't have time to waste)
Side note about AMD chips being worry-free: I can just as easily argue in the opposite direction. My very first AMD died before I even installed it (it came out of the new retail box with a chipped edge). My Intel chips all ran solidly for years. First is a Pentium 2 which I used from 1997 to 2002 (5 years) without any problems (still works fine when I gave it to my cousin to upgrade to a new one. Next in line: Pentium 4 1.6GHz ran without a problem since 2002 (6 years, still running solidly when I sold it to move elsewhere). Now I'm using Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 and I intend to use it for 8 to 10 years.
You probably just got lucky with your AMD chips purchases and unlucky with Intel ones... (Or you tortured... errr I meant OCed... it too much and it died! :P)
AMD = Cheap and therefore saves you money which can be used to upgrade every 2 years or so (or a bigger leap into the high end if you upgrade every 4 years or more)
Intel = Expensive but high performance allows you to use the CPU for more than 4 to 6 years and not fall too far behind (or allows you to stay in the front of the pack if you upgrade every 2 years, assuming you have infinite amount of money).

Does anyone download big files using a DSL?
1 year 1 month ago
"I downloaded 16GB (gigabyte) torrent in a day and a half (36 hours) with my 10M/2M DSL connection from Hinet (Taiwan) with no cap and no throttling. And it only costs approximately $33 USD per month. Anyways, that's not the main point of this reply. What you SHOULD do before you get your connection is to check whether or not that ISP throttles your BT bandwidth. I used Rogers Cable (Canada) for years and it's a pain in the [you know what] because you simply can't upload at decent speed with BT, and if you don't upload fast in BT, you generally don't download fast with it.
All calculations I see above *assumes* that you are downloading at max speed. But if your ISP is using dirty little tricks to hinder your connection, I doubt that you will see your downloads go at max speed all the time. Anyways, do the research! Tis worth it because they will tie you down with a contract or something, and then it's too late..."

ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Monster GPU has arrive

"My single GTX280 goes up to 86 degrees Celsius under full load (76 if I crank the fan up to 100% in RivaTuner). Slapping two of those together will bring the world to an end and life will cease to exist.Off topic: For those looking into buying the GTX280, I suggest you hold up your urges because from my personal experience, it's not worth paying $500 for a card that is only slightly faster than the 9800GX2..."

"I always loved the time machine in Doraemon. The idea of going into the future or going back in time is great (I'd go see the lottery winning numbers and then come back to sign it, too bad Doraemon said that you can't make money with the time machine). However, after some thinking, I finally ended up with the conclusion that: Time machine won't be invented in my lifetime (or maybe I just can't get my hands on one).
How I got to that conclusion: I wrote down on a piece of paper to remind myself to go back in time to my address at a certain date/time, but when the time came, the future me did not appear. Therefore I conclude that either the time machine will not be invented in my life time, or that I'm just too poor (or stupid) to get my hands on one."

QUAD CORES

"Here's some personal hands-on experience:I got myself a great CPU (Intel Q9300) and a not-so-great GPU (Nvidia 9600GT), expecting that Crysis will look great, but after running it in high settings I found out that you really need a good graphics card to make Crysis look great (and have a smooth framerate)... Having a better CPU only seem to give better physics...
FPS stays at around 33 at 1280*800 but drops down to 12-25 fps in more graphics intensive areas."

do you get along well with your bro/sis?

"I fight with my sister every three days or so. Maybe we're just living too close because not surprisingly me and my sister treat outsiders better than we treat each other. The fun part is that it ended up being her job to do lawn mowing while I do the sweeping and vacuuming."View
Are there any strange/funny/stupid laws you heard about!

"American "law" (and probably Canadian too)If a caucasian kid below 18 commit a crime, it's a a crime committed by a minor (not charged that heavily)
However, any other race below 18 years of age commit a crime and it's automatically terrorism."

Traditions of your country!
2 years 2 months ago
" Country: TaiwanFestivals: August 8 is considered Father's Day by many people because 8/8 reads as baba (Father in Chinese is baba instead of the European papa). July 7 is yet another valentines day. This day comes from an old Chinese tale. This festival is also celebrated (in different ways) in Japan known as Tanabata (七夕). July 7 on the agricultural calendar, on the other hand, is the day when the gates of hell opens.
Health: I'm from Taiwan and we're really hard working people - to the extent that Taiwan's known for people spewing up blood right in the middle of the road (to learn more, look up: areca catechu).
Birthday: Eat long noodles, the longer the better. Long unbroken noodle symbolizes long life.
Food: A lot of people (especially old generation farmers) don't eat brown cow and bovinae meat because of the cow's contribution to agriculture (especially rice). We believe that these cows should live the rest of their life in peace. They earned it.
Diplomacy: It's a tradition to send out huge amounts of cash to countries with diplomatic ties, just to find out that they don't really support Taiwan when it comes to international issues (such as vote to join the United Nations).
TV Series: At some point in most series of any kind someone will cry very uglily without tears (or obviously fake tears) with very bad acting skills. Shows that don't follow this pattern are usually made outside of Taiwan or have foreign actors. There are, however, some exceptions..."

[Anime Discussion] Claymore
2 years 2 months ago
"I haven't seen the manga yet but from the anime episodes air to date I made some speculations about the organization. Here's my theory:The organization creates Claymores and allow them awaken. The awakened ones then go out to cause chaos, eat people, and spread fear (and possibly create small youmas as well). The organization then send out Claymores to defeat the youmas and awakened ones, and at the same time collect large amounts of money for the jobs done. The Claymores that were sent out will eventually awaken as well, creating more jobs for new Claymores (while the organization get all the monetary benefits). In a way its similar to a pharmaceutical company releasing a disease to make money from the cure, except in this case the cure eventually turn into the disease itself like a chain reaction.
I could be totally wrong. Just need to wait till I see the ending (hopefully it will address the purpose of the organization)."

Is sex a WANT oR a NEED?
2 years 11 months ago
"Looking at the title from another perspective, sex (gender, not intercourse) is both a "need" and a "want". It is a necessity for the human race (and other animals on Earth) since humans (and other animals on Earth) need a male and a female to reproduce.Looking at it from the cultural and social aspect, it can be a "want" in which a particular gender is desired. For example: in Chinese cultures, most family want/prefer to have a boy. When this "want" go too far and become a "need", it becomes disastrous. For example: some families will keep having babies until they get one of the desired sex. Another example: drowning of babies of the undesired sex under the One Child Policy."

What would you do if you had no internet for a month?
2 years 11 months ago
"This happened to me a few times. Although I'm a big internet addict (12+ hours in front of the PC per day) I found out that a month or two without the net won't kill me. The fact is: if there's something big enough to prevent me from accessing the net for a month, then my priorities probably wouldn't be the net.The first time it happened was during the earthquake in Taiwan in 1999. Power went out, roads collapsed, cut from the outside world. Electricity and water only came back two months later. The first few weeks after the quake weren't that boring because everyone was busy recovering from the disaster. The house had to be cleaned out and tidied up again (luckily mine didn't collapse, none of my relatives died). When the power came back two months after the quake, I found out that my computer, monitor and TV (which all fell from the desk) were all still in good working order.
Other than the earthquake, the only thing that ever prevented me from accessing the net was when I moved house. It took a few days to unpack, a few days for the phone / cable / electricity / water to be connected, and another few days to apply for internet service. Again, I found out that when my priorities were things other than the internet, it doesn't feel as bad even without it.
Summary of what I just said: When I have the net in my hands, I thought I would die if I am deprived of it. When it's not in my hands, it wasn't really a big deal..."
