I am asking b/c for about 6 years I had a Toshiba that served well and never gave me a problem all those years but alas, now I have to buy a new one b/c it is showing signs of struggle to start.

I was thinking about buying a Dell but I seem to hear mixed msgs on this. Some people says Dells are good with customer service which makes them good. Meanwhile some have said they have good customer service bc they are made terribly well and things are prone to stop working. Yet then I am told that the are good b/c if something does stop working on laptop, you can send it to them and they will fix mistake.

The fact of the matter is I want a reliable laptop that I dont need to worry about constantly backing up the HD and shipping out my laptop with all my personal files, to Dell. I want to avoid that if at all possible.

What are your opinions? What are the good laptops out there?

I have recently discussed Media Edition PCs with my parents, who bought me four-hundred $ PC (Which is sort of crap.) I told them it would suit better since we would be able to have machine dedicated to downloading shows for them. (Korean Dramas/Comedies). They're considering it, and with myself reading few things from magazines that showed how to build affordable one for about seven hundred, I might make custom one; IF I get a GO from my parents in few weeks (might even take half a year).

Before I go on, however, I want to hear quick opinions, any opinions.

If AMD ever catches up, I'd buy it. If I want to get Intel, I would have to completely get a new PC, since I usually get pre-made modules. That would suck, but I do want to replace my current machine, which is 400$ machine (eMachine, not a crap, since it's decent, but it needs upgrade or it might as die in two years.)
