After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

how long will you read/watch anime??

1 year 7 months ago

"Hmm, that's a good question. I'd like to think that I'd be able to watch for years to come, but I know that's not practical. Judging by the way obsessions come and go in my life, I'm going to stop for a little bit, but I will come back. So far, anime has been there the longest. I think of it like a girlfriend/boyfriend. I've left several times, but eventually I find my way back.

I started watching anime on Toonami in late 1999, and I think I watched a little bit every weekday while it was still on until 2003/2004 when it moved to Saturday nights only. It wasn't anything really intense though, just casual viewing. I remember getting that boxset of Ghibli movies in 2003 and watching one almost every night for a couple weeks. There was this short fling with anime in late 2005, but that's when the fansub thing started for me. Then after I went to Anime Boston 2006, I just kept watching and watching. In the spring 2007 season I picked up a lot to watch, and I guess it burned me out, because by summer, I stopped completely. And then until this spring, it was maybe 2 or 3 episodes every couple weeks. But I was still collecting images and reading the blogs, so I guess I couldn't leave it behind completely; my fandom kind of changed forms, you could say.

This spring, I'm in another situation like I was last year...and if that's indication, I will stop by next season and start up again...

I don't know what my life's going to be like years from now, so we'll have to see."

Anime on portable devices

1 year 8 months ago

"I used to convert some of my videos into the iPod video format so I could watch them during my free time at school. The converted videos weren't really high quality, and sometimes they blurred so that I couldn't read the subtitles (but usually, I was somewhat surprised that they're still readable at 320x240 size). After a while I got tired of how much space it took to store both a normal episode and an iPod version, so I just deleted the iPod ones. Plus it drained the iPod battery very quickly. I don't watch any videos in general on it anymore because it's just not that practical."

Ouran Host Club!

"I've seen the anime as well, and read one volume of the manga. I'm considering picking it up again from where the anime leaves off, but it's not as funny.

Honestly, I hope Haruhi doesn't end up with anyone. One of the reasons why I like the anime so much is that Bones didn't force an ending with one of the other hosts (I'm not too fond of shipping), and the "Host Club family" thing was hilarious. I loved how unconventional Haruhi was with her wet-blanket-ness, and I was hoping that the manga would continue to do unusual things, like Haruhi not choosing anyone in the end (hmm...that sounds like the Bachelor). From what I've seen of the past few chapters, I don't think it's going to end like that.

I like all of the hosts, but I find Mori particularly funny for some reason."

Rurouni Kenshin

">:D emoticon
I remember I used to watch this every day on Toonami. Once it moved to Saturday nights only, I tried to keep up, but I kept forgetting, and then it just seemed like it disappeared from the lineup. I made it through the first two main arcs, and I'm thinking I should find some time to rewatch all of it, except for some of the filler episodes, because it was all in English. Or maybe the manga. That "Freckles" song...what the heck was that?

The thing I remember most is that I found the characters quite fascinating then. Looking back at it after watching many more series, they seem a little bit cliché now. Also, Rurouni Kenshin is the one of the few series that I've read that had decent fanfiction.

Re-watching anime after 3-5 years.

1 year 8 months ago

"Ugh, I had a reply typed out, but my browser crashed, so I'll try to say everything I remember.
3-5 years ago, I was either not watching anime at all, or watching Toonami. I think I watched Toonami almost every weekday from 1999-2004, but I haven't rewatched many of the shows, even though I still remember them fondly. At the time, I thought Toonami was awesome because it was so much better than all the other shows CN had. About two years ago, when I started getting into fansubs, I decided to re-watch a few of them. Mostly, it's been fun, but sometimes, I realize that it's not all that I remembered it to be.
Sailor Moon: this series rekindled my interest in anime after about 2 years of not watching at all. I rewatched Sailor Moon-R in Japanese, and since it was my second or third time watching an episode or movie in Japanese, Usagi's voice really turned me off. So I turned off the sound, and it was very enjoyable, despite the repetitive cheese. About a year ago, I watched some of my old recordings again...and my ears hurt (though I laughed myself silly over the "cousins" thing).
Tenchi Muyo! OVA's: probably the very first anime that I fell in love with. I was so used to the English voices that that's how I rewatched it (I love Ryoko's voice). I laughed through most of it, even when it came to jokes I still remembered. Also, I could appreciate some of the humor more, now that I'm smarter and because I saw the uncut version.
Outlaw Star: Something came up halfway through, and I kind of forgot that I was rewatching it until now. Almost turned off the sound for this, but eventually I didn't, again, I was able to watch the full version (are we seeing a pattern here?). Fun, nostalgic, and I could already see the makings of the signs that Sunrise exhibits all the time today. I was annoyed with all the fanservice after it was uncensored though, and how shallow it seemed at times.
So basically, I like watching shows again in the original language that I heard them in. And it helps when it's not censored.
Big O: rewatched one episode in English, and I still have no idea what the plot is.
Cardcaptor Sakura: Yay for uncut, and I'm glad to see episodes I missed, but oh God, the cheese...
Pokemon: I watch a few minutes every once in a while when I land on CN when it's on. It hasn't changed at all. When I watched one of the movies in the theater, I almost cried, but I was in elementary school back then.

I think that goes for most media too. After you watch/read something really good and moving, you want to feel those emotions again, so you rewatch it soon after, but you know everything that's going to happen, so it feels a little bit hollow. I limited myself to watching only once a year to try so I could feel that good emptiness you get from something great, but I'll have to wait a few more months to see if it actually worked.

Recently, I watched two non-anime movies that I hadn't watched in four or five years, and it was great. I thought I had remembered everything, but I really hadn't. 3-5 years is a good period to wait before viewing something again, because you do kind of forget, but it's hard to wait that long and still remember by the time it's up. Some people I've heard of do remember quite well, but don't want to rewatch because they're afraid it may ruin that shining image of it in their heads.

Man, I want to go rewatch something really old now..."

The laptop's not mine, but I was in need of many screens while I was working on this big project, so I stole it from my brother. Because I'm naturally lazy, I had to put motivational messages up there to keep myself on task.
The dual screen is mine though. It's a 22" widescreen with a 19" screen. 70GB on the local HD, and 750 on the external, plus I dump files on my family's computers over the network. The computer itself is not very powerful, so I can't play those HD videos very well yet. There's an old Gateway2000 computer under my desk right now from '97. It's huge, slow, and it's got a whopping 8GB on the HD. It's fun laughing at how quickly we've advanced, but it's quite amusing and nostalgic when I boot it up every couple of months."

How well do you keep computer organized?

1 year 8 months ago

"I only seem to organize my anime videos and manga. They're all stored in separate folders, and I have subfolders for the raws and soundtracks. My non-anime- or jpop-related music is all organized too, because of iTunes. I always make sure that there are less than two rows of icons on my desktop. Occasionally though, I save files to obscure folders because I'm too lazy to make a new one, and then I forget where they are when I'm looking for them sometime later.
On the other hand, my pictures are not organized at all. I didn't do it in the beginning so I could scroll through them all at once, but it's starting to get huge, and my computer hates having to load all the thumbnails and details. If I could tag files the way you can label messages in gmail, then I would definitely do it."

Hello

"I'm okay right now, thanks. Lots of work to finish (which I should be doing right now), and DST is annoying. But the weather's nice, and I'm eating some Girl Scout cookies now, so it's made up for a little.

How much of my HD should I expect to devote to wallpapers and the like?|(VcV)| emoticon"

Hello

1 year 8 months ago

"Hello, everyone, I'm Aurelia.

I've been a fan of anime for a couple years, but I've only become interested in the walls and such recently. I discovered this site a few months ago, and I decided to join after checking out the forums and community (a few months later...). Oh, and you've got the coolest emoticons of any forum that I've ever been to. :D

Nice to meet you all."
