manga versus anime

"It really depends. Sometimes, most of the time, I'll get into an anime only later to discover it is based on a manga. If I really liked the anime, a lot, I won't get the manga because I don't want to ruin the story that I liked in the anime. As for manga, I'll read it, and if I liked the manga, I'll most likely watch the anime. (ie. Revolutionary Girl Utena, InuYasha, King of Bandit Jing, Angelic Layer, FAKE, Magic Knight Rayearth, etc.)

I'm rather reluctant to read a manga of an anime I love, like I've said. Like Naruto. The anime is so long to begin with, so...>_<. I know, I know, I listed InuYasha as one of the manga to anime for me, but I got into the InuYasha manga before I knew what I was getting into, really.

Only manga I didn't go on, and wasn't compelled, to see the anime was Chobits. The manga didn't appeal to me enough to do so.

So, on the whole, manga then anime for me, or just plain anime without looking into the manga. (But I also read a lot of manga by themselves, that don't have an anime adaptation.) Like I said, it all depends."

"I actually know of a few. I know on your list you have Demon Diary, which I have the first volume of (so cute, and wonderfully translated!)

Then there is Boy Princess, which is yaoi. I think it is really adorable, and can't wait to read what happens next (but lack of funds for me to buy more and all that). The translation seems a little choppy though, and sometimes I wonder if there is something lost in the translation, you know?

Same thing for Planet Ladder. Really confusing story, and it might be due to the translation, or more likely, the story is just confusing. But is worth looking into.

I.N.V.U. - gah, I just re-found that I own the first two volumes. It really is intriguing. You really root for the main character, which sometimes proves to be difficult.

Manga Characters^^

"Okay, for me there is a difference between becoming "attached" to a character and "liking" the character, as in falling into like/love with a character *laughs*

For characters in manga I become attached to, *this is a difficult question because I don't think there are just types. It varies from character to character*, I think that the characters that need a hug, I get attached to (like Gaara from Naruto, and personally for me, Tamaki from Ouran). Maybe it is the maternal instinct in me *shrugs* I don't know. I want to love the hurt right out of them! (but not in a romantic sense, just caring to make the whatever inner scars they have inside heal). Funny character, too, I attach to. Either just out-and-out funny or mischievous funny. (ie. of the latter, Koaru and Hikaru Hitachiin from Ouran). AND *laughs* I tend to attach and become the cheerleader for couples I like in a series (ie. Sango and Miroku. If you mess with them, you have to face the fangirls .>_<.)

Maybe not "attach" so much, but kind of am in awe of - the "cool" characters. Like Shikamaru from Naruto. So nonchalant.

And then there are characters I just connect with because I feel they are a lot like me, like Kyoya from Ouran.

Characters that send me...are too long of a list, and I don't see a common thread through any of them .>_<."

"Hmm...I don't know if I ever experienced that exactly. Perhaps the opposite. For example - Juline. The manga was so good on its own, and when I found out it had two sequel series, I was so mad .>_<. Part of me wants to read the sequel since I loved the original so much, but for the same reason the other part of me can't bear to risk reading either sequel! I feel like it would ruin the story I already love .>_<.

So sometimes, to me, sequels are unnecessary.

Then, sometimes, manga lasts too long (ie. Vampire Game - everything was rushed at the end, when it could have been properly developed throughout the 15 volumes.)

How does you family feel about Anime?

"I'm the only one in my household that watches anime. It is just my mom and I, but it isn't like she dislikes it. She just isn't interested, per se. However, she likes most of Hayao Miyazaki's films, but as for anime series, she doesn't watch any. I don't mind though. I kind of like having my own thing, you know?

However, I do try to get others, non-household, into anime, like friends. Then I meet friends who happen to like anime and everything falls into place. I guess I like experiencing anime by myself first, and then talking with others about it. (I honestly do not think my mom's brain could function with anime, though .>_<. She'd be a little in shock.)"

Ever try watching Anime around other people?

"Alone, yes I would have to agree, it is awkward. I would probably put headphones on and make sure I was properly hidden in a corner. However, if I'm with someone else watching anime in public, to me, it isn't that big of a deal. As long as there is someone else with me, enjoying what we are watching, then the awkwardness seems nonexistent. For example, the other day, a friend of mine and I were watching an episode of Shugo Chara, and a Professor walks by us and asks us what we are watching. We tell him it was anime, and he says, "Uh...anime is prejudiced against anyone older than thirteen years of age." We just laughed, and I really paid no mind. Although, I have to admit, I kind of want to prove him wrong .>_<."

Yuri and Yaoi Manga/Anime...Hate or Like?

"Well, I like yaoi (although, I have to admit that I like it more when it isn't the main focus of the series - anime or manga) Hot and/or pretty men together? Why not? *laughs* I just think that love knows no gender, so I guess I don't have a big reason on why I like it per se.

But I have to admit, I'm not a fan of yuri. It makes me nervous. (I'm a girl, so...I don't know. It makes me squeamish .>_<.) I'm not against it though. It just isn't for me. Although, I really like the series Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Anthy and Utena are >supposed< to be lesbians (especially in the movie) and that didn't bother me. But AGAIN their romantic relationship was not the focus of the anime or manga.

What do you think of people reading manga at the bookstore?

"It annoys me as well. In the bookstore near me, they just plop themselves down and read - which leads to them, their bodies, blocking most of the space where other people want to browse. I can understand to some extent, you know? If you don't have the money and all that. But at least be considerate. Plus, if it's not a money thing, then just stand up and flip through it - don't pitch yout tent and prepare to read a novel."

They are just brilliant. So much goes into what they do - especially in the design of the clothes - and shouldn't we mention the background/landscape work they do, too? (I'm mainly thinking of their work 'Shirahime-Syo'. It's a different level for CLAMP, though.)

I see their newer style as more disportionate, but their older style...not as much. Maybe a little. (But as I said, I am partial.)"

"I drew this a rather long time back. It was based on a tiny image of a group of characters from the manga 'GateKeepers', and I liked how Fei looked in that picture, so I drew this. I know the tilt of her head, or lack there of, is off, but I think I did a pretty good job .^_^. Enjoy. (And yes, I had a rather bad scanner. Won't Let Me Save Sometimes

"I haven't had any problems since then. (I got my right to download back, so I tried it again, and this problem hasn't occured again.) The only thing I did different was right clicking, selecting 'copy', and then pasting it into the proper spot on my computer. Normally, I would just right click and then save it to my computer. I honestly don't know what the problem was...I just thought I shouldn't leave this thread open-ended. Thanks so much for all your help .^_^."

CLAMP Works

"I have to say I love CLAMP, too. But I do have a slight inclination to their older drawing style.

- Favorite Clamp Work : Wish *squeals* Just so great!
- Best CLAMP character? : Ora/Oruha from 'Clover'. She's an amazing character, but I cried in volume 3. Didn't everyone?
- What you don't like about CLAMP stories : Sometimes the endings do irk me. (Maybe the anime more - like what was changed in Magic Knight Rayearth. But I don't know if that was CLAMP's call or not.)
- Anything else pertaining to CLAMP excellence : They are just genius. Making a crossover in the form of Tsubasa? Genius. As if the fans couldn't already get enough as it was, they came up with that. Brilliance.

Although, I have to say, CLAMP School Detectives held no appeal to me. *Shrugs*"

"'Juline' is a lesser known manga. It's sequel series is 'Shaolin Sisters' and then 'Shaolin Sisters: Reborn'. However, I've only read 'Juline'.

And I loved it!

So much so that I don't want to read the sequels in fear that it'll ruin the feeling. I think it had the proper balance of everything - romance, action, humor (*laughs*), suffering, and so on. Someone suggested it to me a long time ago, and not until recently was I able to read the whole thing. (5 volumes)
