Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 2 weeks ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Check before submit

"Hey all,

I am personally very happy with this wallpaper but I just want to pass it along a few more pairs of eyes before submitting it.

This is a pencil drawing coloured in Photoshop. It is supposed to look like a drawing. What I am concerned with is if it comes out as low resolution image or unclean, because that defeats the purpose.

Many thanks in advance.

And then someone mentioned they didn't like the particular image of Kotori, so I thought it'd be a good idea to replace it.

I think it backfired!

Here's what I have now:
User posted image

The big problem is that Kotori's orb appears too 2D and stands out like a sore thumb.

Here's where I need your input:
1. Which version of Kotori should I stick with?
2. What can I do to make the orb look more 3D and more realistic like the rest of the wallie?

Thanks again!"

"Okay, let's hope my efforts won't backfire...

Someone mentioned they didn't like Kotori, and I realize the image I used (although the colours harmonize well) may not be the best.

So here's the experiment I've been working on:
Version 1
User posted image

And this second version the Kotori orb is less shinny
Version 2
User posted image

So the big questions now:
1. Do you prefer the previous image of Kotori? I feel that the previous version has a darker feel to it since Kotori is not smiling. Did I destroy the wall by switching?
2. If you prefer the second version with the different Kotori image featured above, do you like Version 1 or Version 2 better? Why?
Thanks again!"

"Kotori is an eyesore? She is like the beauty queen of her highschool...hm...this issue has to be fixed indeed.

Thanks for pointing that out. Looks like I won't be able to submit it today afterall *sigh*...back to Photoshop.

Anything else?"

"Hey all,

Thanks for all the input so far. I changed a lot of the elements in accordance with everyone's suggestions. The result is a darker themed wallie.

At this point, I am wondering if this is an improvement from before?

BIG CONCERNS:
1. Does the wall look too monochromatic now (too much red?)
2. Does the blood look fake?
3. What does/doesn't fit right now?

Thanks again!"

"Hi all,

User posted image

The wallpaper features Kotori from X/1999, she is a tragic character, who was a sacrifice and died at age 16.

So here are what I need input on:

1. Can you even notice the blood droplets at the top of the page leading into the swirls of light, etc? It is supposed to be symbolic.

2. How do I fix the empty space issue? There are ways to do it without clustering the wallpaper with excess images, but I can't really see a way out of it.

Help!

And thanks in advance!"

thumbs up for submission?

I decided that a border is necessary to give the wallpaper a more professional look. I did tone down the border a bit, hope that helps. Also, I cleaned up the main images so hopefully it is much less pixelated.

Now, my question is:

Are the two ourple and orange halves competing for your attention (as they should?) or is one stronger than the other?"

what is wrong?

"Hi all.

User posted image

This wallpaper is not in my usual style but I am still evolving.

I can't put my thumb on it, but something else is missing/wrong with this wallpaper because it lacks the BANG effect. I started out on a good concept but somewhere along the way it reverted back and I got a rather ordinary wallpaper instead.

Tell me:

What is your first reaction upon seeing this?

Why would you or wouldn't you download it?

What bothers you?

I posted this on Minitokyo for a trial and one comment I got was that the dragons look too blurry and the clean lines at some parts contradicts the textural backgound. Is this a big problem still? How do I maintain the pen & ink textural feel while making the lens flare and petals at the front fit as well?

"Hi all.
User posted image

This piece features one of my original pen & ink drawings. I would really appreciate comments on the following aspects:

1. Does the elegant font go with the image, specifically the more grudgy textures in the background?

2. Did I over do it on the petals? Are they too blurry? If so, it's because I enlarged the brushes but I don't know how to make them look cleaner.

3. The girl's weapon: does the light at the end look too grudgy and contradicts the lens flare behind the font? Should I also add a lens flare for consistency?

4. Speaking of lens flare: is the one behind the font annoying or distracting? Does it go with the general atmosphere?"

"I feel that the wallpaper is not giving much impression of depth at all. Could you try some gradients on the walls or floor to suggest the illusion of depth? Afterall, we are looking into a corner of a room right?"

Still missing something

3 years 2 weeks ago

" User posted image

Hey, I posted this wallpaper a while back and gotten some great feedback. I have improved it according to the great advice and I am almost happy with the end product.

However, the 3D illusion is still not complete, something is still missing. The paper looks flat to me, but I don't know how to make it jump out more. Should I add more shadows since the wallpaper is the same tone/colour through out with only the black burnt edge at the bottom left corner? "

The top left corner looks a bit empty though? Could you do some more watermarks/textures to fill that?

New wall workin' on

3 years 3 weeks ago

"The concept is great!

I find the bubbly border over powering. Three things:
1. You have a lot of earthy neutral tones in the wall, but these round borders are blue and black, I would suggest you warm up the colours up if possible.
2. Secondly, these bubbles are completely flat/2D and looks out of place compared to the textural wall. Could you possibly add some textures to these so they don't stand out as much?
3. The size seems a bit big to me, could you shrink them?

One last thing, I think some random graffiti around Ed and Al would make the bricks/sandstone background look less empty once you shrink the bubble border.

Hope I am helping!

"I quite like the composition!:)

I think there is some work to be done with regards to depth. Focus on the lower right corner of the wallpaper: if that is the ground and wall meeting, then theres hould be some suggestion of transition in angle other than a line (ie: tonal change, textural change)."

first wolf's rain wallpaper need lots of help

"The character at the front is overpowering. That's a very bright shade of green!! Her and the grassy texture at the right corner are both 2D while the scenic night is 3D. More harmony would help, decide whether you want it 2D or more realistic.

Hope this helps!"

You're All I Need (Athrun x Cagalli wall)

3 years 1 month ago

"I really like the painterly style of the couple. The background is too calm and lacking in the same presentation, I think that's the only issue. I am seeing that this is like lovers stuck in their own moment. Hm...how about moving traffic in the background just for contrast in the theme? Play with the special effects in Photoshop for something that would match the same style of the couple (ie: watercolour, dark strokes etc).

I see great potential in this wallie. Keep it up!"

Day of Confession

3 years 1 month ago

"I agree with all the commentors so far: the second version is better. Adding shadow and depth will dramatically improve the wallie. How about adding a shadow under the floating feather?

As for the drapery, why not go to stock photos and pick one with more detail and texture. You are only showing a part of a curtain, so just clear drapes won't work as well as something else with more interest.

On second thought...to be honest, the window + drape combo is a tough thing to do realistically and may not in fact add to your wallpaper. I mean, it's a wonderful idea. However, if you are finding that this idea is exceedly difficult to pull off, I would just leave it out. To be honest, I was attracted to and focusing on the rest of the paper anyways. Maybe it's just me.

Hope I am helping."

Rejected Why ?

"Hm...would you consider adding some blood spatters to justify her swing in motion?

Also, I personally don't dig the background so much because it seems like a meddly of red+green = brown. Maybe you could think of a theme, place where she is swinging her weapon in stead of a plain pattern?

Hope I am helping...cheers. "

can i submit this wallpaper

"Hi there.

I like the soft atmosphere portrayed by this wallpaper.

Although it aims to look minimalistic, it feels somewhat empty. Have you considered textural brushes? The effect should be subtle so it shouldn't change the wallpaper but just simply enhance it.

Hope it gets the okay."
