This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"I hate the term 'noob'.

Quite possibly the dumbest way someone can describe someone who is new to a game. Anyone who first picks up that game, unless they have played a title similar to it or the title has had prequel games to it, will be a 'noob'. It's just the way it goes. I've had numerous years of experience with FPS games, but when I first started playing Team Fortress 2 online I sucked. Why? Because I was completely unfamiliar with the title itself, which by definition makes me a noob.

It's also the most common insult for when a player doesn't know something. If you don't know everything there is to know about the game, odds are you are going to be called a 'noob'. Hell, I played Diablo 2 for a few years and I get called a noob for not knowing all the rune words and what they do, or for not knowing a certain abbreviation.

I actually go after people who call others 'noobs'. Not only because is it a weak insult, but is it really necessary? We are all new at something at one point in time, so why is it necessary to point it out that he/she is new to that game or doesn't know everything that there is to know?

Chrono Trigger DS

You Do NOT need to play Chrono cross after this. It was a bad sequal. and it shames the name Chrono. (All CT fans agree)

Then you do not know that many Chrono fans. Almost everyone I've talked to, be it forums or offline, has either enjoyed Chrono Cross or admits that it wasn't a terrible game even if they didn't like it. I'll admit that it was rather different on certain levels, but it was far from being a bad game. I don't want to be grouped in with an assumption.

That aside, I am seriously excited for this game. I was devastated when Square refused to do anything after CC, so it's very nice to see them bring back this wonderful series after making such a butchered port on the PS1 (load times do NOT improve a game). It'll be nice to see touch screen interactivity and even better to see some bonus features added into the game. I can't express enough how happy I am that SquareEnix knows that fans still greatly love the series and perhaps if sales go well, maybe we can see a future installment in the Chrono series."

Xenosaga the Animation

"I felt very strongly the same way you did when I first saw the anime when it was being subbed. I'm a huge fan and I can't stress that enough how much I loved the first episode. At first I hated it because of what they did to the series, but after re-watching it I actually found myself liking it far more than I did.

No, it isn't the game. It takes elements from the game and expands upon parts that weren't touched upon, but the best thing about it is that it doesn't try to compete with the game. It's just that, an anime adaptation of the first title. Not a complete re-telling of it, but rather a mix. This is probably what led me to buy the series is because it offered enough new to warrant the purchase, where as if they just made it identical to the game that would of defeated the point of even bothering with it.

I will agree, though, on both the characters as well as the plot. Considering that they were basing it off of the game, they really shouldn't of had such a difficult time with it, which is why I always recommend to anyone to play the game of that specific series before you watch anything related to it.

Overall, I found the series to be pleasant. I bought the complete series used for 30 bucks, so it was a good deal for me and I didn't mind it that much. The animation was rather well done and despite a few things, it really isn't too bad. Yes, it could been much better but it still gave it a good try."

Fear, Terror, Cold Sweats

"Fatal Frame. Never has a game freaked me out to the point of where I cannot play by myself or just cannot play period. Maybe it's due to the fact that the only thing I have as a weapon is a camera, maybe it's because none of the characters really know how to do more than a slow jog. Maybe it had to do with the fact that the game has by far the freakiest audio/sound effects I have ever heard, not to mention hauntingly beautiful visuals. I'm unable to play the first one for more than a few hours because it freaks me out after awhile and I haven't bothered to play any of them at night. No way in hell.

Condemned. This game itself uses more jump moments than fear, similar to Resident Evil IV. However, some of the levels are just terrifying. Considering the game is darker than hell (if you think F.E.A.R. was dark, wait until you play this game) and there are crazy bums running around everywhere and the game has a STRONG focus on melee, it's truly one that can only be taken in small doses. What's even better about Condemned is that it's made by the same awesome team that did F.E.A.R., Monolith. I've only started playing the second one and I've already found it to be just as terrifying, if not even more than the first one. "

Fatal Frame 4 for Wii

"I think it's a supurb idea.

Considering the fact that Grasshopper is also working on it, I can only imagine how wonderful the game will be. To be honest, I thought the series was starting to go stale, so maybe this'll help breathe some new life into it. It almost makes me want to get a Wii again. Let's realize that what makes a great game isn't the graphics, but everything in general. Considering it's a horror game and one of the staple marks for the Fatal Frame series has been it's sound, I'm curious to see more on this title in the future."

COD 5 - returning to WW2

So what if its returning to WW2? I love the WW2 versions!

The biggest reason is because they are stepping backwards. Call of Duty started off as a WW II shooter and Infinity Ward took that to a new level. Something that was desperately needed, considering the market is overly saturated with WW II games. To do something like this to a series that has decided to push itself over, which is something few series do, proves how shallow of a company Treyarch is. They are just simply going back to a formula that sells, without taking a chance. "

COD 5 - returning to WW2

"I'm not sure if Activision knows what they are doing. You basically summed up how I feel. Infinity Ward started the series and did an amazing job, yet for some reason they get Treyarch to do two crappy console versions and a mediocre 3rd game. I fail to see, considering how well Call of Duty 4 did, why on Earth they would hand it back over to them when they are just going to go back and do the same old thing. It's like they looked at Infinity Ward and were like "Duhhh, this will surely get us a buck".

To basically answer your question, Sie, it's because Activision handed off part of the rights to another company. Infinity Ward has made the first and second games, along with the fourth. It seems to be an alternating thing, as of right now. So, that's why I'm waiting for CoD 6 =D."

However, judging by from the sound of Inside the Fire, they've returned a bit to some of their older roots while keeping their newer sound. Definitely gonna check it out, though, since I am a fan XD."

I think this suffers too much from Wind Waker syndrome where the map is way to big for its own good. Its not a bad game its just that the city is really boring and that was a huge disappointment to me.

First, I think this is the first I've heard of Wind Waker actually being too big.

I'm not sure if I'm fully following your argument. GTA 4 is actually smaller than San Andreas and it's much more active than any of the previous GTA games. It's suppose to mimic a real city and as you know, real life can tend to be very boring on the surface. I've found that the game is as interesting as you make it. If you don't bother to do much of anything, it'll come off as really boring. I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't understand the argument. I can seeing it as being really big, but being boring is another story. It is a video game and as such, a form of entertainment. Games are only going to be as exciting as you make them, generally."

Metal Gear Solid Story so far

"Honestly, best advice I can offer is just that, to play the previous installments. It's also the most satisfying.

If you really want to, though, I'm sure you can hunt down the cutscenes on youtube or at least a good majority of them. I can't guarantee anything through and to be able to type up a detailed and exact amount of what the story is from the three MGS games would be insane in length."

Console or PC?

This thread makes my blood boil, honestly. From the OP who was clearly pro-PC to the people trying to play "peacemaker" who are just spewing an endless load of vitriol disguised as something a bit less sinister in nature.

It honestly seems that you are the one trying to start a flame war out of this thread. Everyone has a different opinion and it is possible for someone to be on-the-fence with a topic. I can't agree enough with LongBow, if this thread bothers you so much it's easy to stay away. Just don't click on the topic. If you do want to contribute, it's more than welcome I'm sure.

I, personally, find this thread to be rather interesting to see what people like and dislike and to see if there are any others out there that are like me, a PC/Console gamer.

idfspook
Dumbed down for console. Yes!

Most games are usually with an auto aim for consoles simply because of the analog stick. Since PC has the mouse, it gives console gamers a chance to experience something that would normally be a PC experience while still being able to get a great experience.

Actually, Gears of War is a console original game and the PC version is a port. Something that has been happening a lot lately for PC games. It's nice that PC owners can experience more games, but when they make crappy ports like Lost Planet it's difficult to find any enjoyment. Considering they didn't do just a straight port and actually worked on Gears, it's actually a decent port. Considering most ports generally don't get as much work, it's a diamond in the rough."

Console or PC?

2 months 1 week ago

"I'm both a console and PC gamer.

I've always sat on the side of the fence. In terms of a computer it's very difficult and incredibly expensive to stay up-to-date with all the latest games and to be able to crank everything up to the max settings is always a pleasant experience. There are also some games that you just can't get the same experience without a mouse and a keyboard in my opinion. Of course, PC gaming is very spendy. I've got a retail model that I downgraded to XP and put in a new graphics card and it suits me just fine. Especially considering my previous rig had components that were ten years old.

Console gaming is something I've always been a part of. Dating all the way back to Nintendo, it's always been the route I've taken and only in recent times have I started to do more PC gaming. Console has always been nice, since you can buy an affordable system instead of paying a couple thousand on a top-of-the-line PC and you can buy your games without having to worry about matching up or having any issues with the game. It's bad when I have to find a crack for a game that I bought because it has issues reading the the disc and I can't find any assistance for it. Console is an affordable choice and with the opening of online gaming, it really is becoming a more competitive contender in the fight. Emulation is something that can be done with both systems, but when it comes down to it I've found it to be much easier to work emulation on a PC rather than a system.

At the end of the day, it's the same as everything else in life. It all comes down to personal preference. It can be continuously argued that both have a great deal to offer to the consumer, but it's going to depend on the route that person chooses to take. PC is a bit more spendy, but the experience is going to be a much more beautiful one than console, yet console is much more affordable and compatibility is a given, so long as you buy the game for the system you have and know what that system can/cannot do. "To me, it was mediocre, but it's the best FF animated series out there. I found the voice acting to be meh and considering Gonzo did it, the animation was rather weak for them. The story itself was somewhat of the saving grace, which I felt wasn't too good in my opinion. It seemed the anime itself didn't want to be anything more than mediocre, which was a shame.

I had somewhat high expectations for it, which might be the reason why I didn't find it to be as appealing, but even despite that I felt it didn't try to become more than what it was."

I understand what you mean there but as someone put to me when I raised this question up myself, that would extra time developing such little things which they're only going to use once. You're not going to see a hole in Goku later on in the game and you're not going to play or see an armless Piccolo again so it would be a waste of development.

I wasn't thinking like that @__@ That makes perfect sense as to why they did that then. It would be a rather big waste, but I guess I'm a sucker for keeping things close to the original, but at least they've got the right English VA's XD.

I do agree that if you aren't a fan of the series, you aren't going to like the games. Yes, they have 'milked' them, but they are rather decent fighting games on the whole and from the few I've played, I have greatly enjoyed the experience. I'm looking forward to Burst Limit simply because it's taking it to the next step.

[Manga Discussion] Penguin Girl 14~ ペンギン娘

2 months 2 weeks ago

"Anime is under a bit of a different name, which is Penguin Musume Heart. They've released up to episode 5 and from what I've observed is that the show is roughly around 15 minutes. I was able to locate it at both AnimeSuki as well as Baka-Updates. I haven't fully watched the first episode, but I've absolutely loved what I have watched. So obscure and just so random. The ecchi is a nice fill for it and the cute characters are welcomed too. It doesn't seem to over-do it either and so far I've been enjoying it.

Yes, I know my above post mostly covers the anime, but from what I read of the manga, it seems to be pretty on par. Penguin is sooo adorable < 3 and yet so very, very weird."

"Certain aspects I didn't like, like the censoring.

SPOILER (click to view)

The graphics are a improvement, but I wouldn't say that they are stellar. The game looks great, but I was hoping for more destructible environments. What I also didn't like is that I had no idea really what I was doing. Granted, I had a general idea about the controls, but at the most certain things I was doing more of at random with no help from the game.

On the positive, everything plays smoothly and I'm rather impressed on the overall. This will definitely be a title I pick up, but I'm debating if I'll buy it brand new or not. I will be honest, I'm disappointed that when the full game is released, it will only go through the Cell saga. Seriously, the series is being leeched enough as is, why do we have to have to wait for a second game with the technology we have today?"

What Makes A Good Video Game

2 months 2 weeks ago

"Dino Crisis 3 could of been a decent game. Should of, to be perfectly honest. It really had potential, if it wasn't for that horribly awful camera. The first two games had a rather bad camera system as well, but the third took the cake. Add that in with the jet pack and it was a receipt for disaster.

Spudsy
That and RE 1 + 2 had some horrible camera angles. Never played 3.

Three was still a victim of a bad camera. It was a bit better, because they made it a bit more accompanying to the camera. Things weren't completely awkward then, but with Nemesis chasing you down, it really sucked now being able to have a free camera, so you could see if he had the rocket launcher and was about to blow you sky high.

GeneralValter
- PVP ( for MMOs )

You know, I actually hate PVP. Maybe it's because in the games I had played online, I'd get PK'ed by someone who would be much stronger than myself or far better equipment wise or just simply was better built and it was always the same end. I'd get taunted and insulted. PVP lost it's charm and became more of a dreaded concept, which is why I embrace games that either don't include it or focus on it.

Spudsy
PvP just annoys me in most MMOs, unless they are like Guild Wars, which is strictly all PvP, in which then I could see it justified.

Really? When I played, it had a section for PVP. The game itself was very focus on party heavy. You could not solo that game, unless you had amazing equipment and you couldn't rely on the NPCs because they were too stupid to help in the later parts of the game (mainly after the seering, or was it searing..). Though, it was nice because you went to a separate place for the PvP, which made it great because it didn't interfere with the game."
