This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I thought some of the earlier Resident Evil games were better. RE4 did have some corny and stupid moment. Although the action and puzzles tended to make up for that.

RE4 was full of corny and stupid stuff. Yes, yes, I know RE is known for that but even for RE standards, this was really stupid stuff. That whole jumping over laser section speaks for itself but it was stuff that was easily ignorable due to great gameplay. Though I don't really remember any puzzles per say."

I guess there always a possibility that while they are exploring the origins of the virus, they can cause another outbreak.

It would kind of feel rehashed an desperate, wouldnt it?

Not really.

Rehashed and desperate is an on-rails shooter using significant past moments in the series to cruelly damage all precious memories old fans used to have.

Wait...

RE2 is the best i think. but re5 i don't know that i can play cos i don't have ps3 TT

I also believe RE2 is the best and you don't need a PS3, it's coming out for the 360 too. Just a matter of preference like every other game now."

So far, the trailer is really exciting, but I just hope that there are a lot of new stuff since RE4 in terms of gameplay. Alot of the actions seem familiar, and I dunno, even the appearance of a chainsaw guy wearing a sack kinda disappointed me, lol. I mean, I loved fighting the chainsaw guy and all, but I definitely want this to be more than just a graphically upgraded version of RE4 plus story.

I understand your point there. When the first trailer came out, I was fairly disappointed that it just seemed like RE4 part 2 but I'm getting used to it now as time moves on. To be honest, RE2 and 3 played like RE1 didn't they? The series has always used controls from the last popular entry, no need to change what is not broken. I've heard there are some different mechanics but nothing too drastic. You can't really expect a game which is part of a long series to keep re-inventing itself every game."

E3 2008

"E3 was horrible. I'm genuinely surprised anyone here actually enjoyed it. It was the worst one they've ever held. Microsoft's conference was an embarassment, Nintendo's somehow topped that and Sony's was the most disappointing thing I've ever seen.

As for the ongoing PS3 vs 360 'war', they're both pretty much the same console what with all the multiplatform games now. 360 has Halo and Gears of War whilst PS3 has Resistance, God of War and Killzone. A few exclusives split the two but that's about it, just a matter of what exclusives interest you more and how much money you have to spend."

Dino Crisis should also go on my list of classics, but sadly I can barely remember them, all I remember is the beginning of the first one, absolutely nothing of the second one, and the third one being too easy, short and crappy.

Yeah, Dino Crisis 1 and 2 are amazing. Nearly forgot about those games, I think time has sadly washed them away from memory. Never played the third as it looked quite poor and sounded quite poor.

Iro
Talking about cool monsters, I've never been a big fan of the chainsaw guy (although I admit he was scary, and in RE5 looks even better), but that weird looking monster at 00:46 of the Story Trailer looks promising o=

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the chainsaw guy looks a lot more creepier in RE5 than in RE4. In regards to the monster, I didn't even notice it was there until I just watched it in HD. o_o Which leaves me with just one statement...

I'm so glad BOWs are back ;_;"

Too bad they're not returning to the roots. But RE4 pretty much did away with that. What a shame.

They are, somewhat. In terms of story, it is a return to formula unlike Resident Evil 4 which might as well have been labelled '1 Man Vs. 10,000 Zombies'. (Which also reminds me I should play Dead Rising someday)

Iro
I still rather the SH series, excluding Origins and the new ones >_> and even if almost everyone seems to think SH2 is the best, I rather 1 and 3.

You know how "everybody complained" that you moved like a tank in RE? That you had to move... then turn... then shoot? I loved that part! LOL. It made the game more exciting for me when the monsters were coming from both sides and I had to quickly turn in one direction and shoot and then hurry up and turn back around and shoot. I'm probably the only one who thinks this, but I'm glad RE4 still kept a bit of that old Resident Evil driving like a tank feel. LOL.

Oh yeah, I know that argument. I liked my human tank, nothing more rewarding than turning that tank around and blasting an acid grenade at a zombie. It does make you feel a lot more "badass" when you walk at a snail's pace but can manage to fight off a whole horde of zombies.

REIzBOY
I played Silent Hill 1,2,3 and although IMO the second one was best (awesome story); I had fun playing the 3rd one too. The action gameplay in the SH series is a tad bit buggy IMO (plus, need more bullets, lol), but the stories were just so darkly immersive that I didn't even mind. I think Silent Hill needs a next gen makeover too, but it will never be Resident Evil.

Silent Hill has taken a turn for the worse by letting Western developers use it however, it's one of those games which has sadly not made the next-gen jump and I would have to say Resident Evil has finally taken a strong lead as the horror genre's best game. Silent Hill is going down that list fast."

RE4 was alright, but I played the PS2 version so perhaps I would have liked it better on the Gamecube. And the whole new over the shoulder perspective was nice, but I will always be a "third person w/ pre-rendered backgrounds" kind of guy. LOL.

You know, I somewhat agree with you. The whole person w/ pre-rendered backgrounds just screams Resident Evil more than the over-the-shoulder perspective. Whilst the recent change isn't a bad one, it just isn't as powerful as the old camera angle. But yeah, the Gamecube version is much nicer than the PS2 one =P

After Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil is probably my favorite series. Silent Hill has been ruined by some bad games as of late and Final Fantasy I'm beginning to hate. I'm really excited for Resident Evil 5, nearly as much as I was excited for Metal Gear Solid 4"

Though I must say the only thing I really want back is the item box >_> That is truly epic stuff."

The Dead Space Thread

Many know of EA, many know of the games EA releases every so often. Every knows EA isn't exactly the most fascinating of game developers but from the deep recesses of EA Redwood comes a fascinating game called Dead Space. A strange twist in the train of creative ideas coming from the same studio responsible for making previous games like the recent Simpsons game and the Godfather game.

Set in the deep confines of space, players will be playing as Isaac Clarke, a space engineer who works for the Concordance Extraction Corporation (C.E.C), a company that operates "giant mining ships" throughout the galaxy. After receiving a distress call from the USG Ishimura, he heads in with two partners to investigate and remedy what they initially thought was a mechanical failure. It doesn't take long for them to realize there's a lot more going on in the Ishimura than a mechanical failure. A foreign alien species called the ' Necromorph' has infected and killed the entire crew, typically this new threat seperates Isaac from his friends and he must battle his way through the legions of infected hybrids to re-unite with them again.

In this game, it will not be possible to defeat an enemy by shooting a certain number of rounds into their bodies as the enemies will just adapt and develop new tactics. The key feature to this game is that of 'dismemberment', instead of shooting the enemies in the head and waiting for them you will need to find means of shooting off limbs and appendages to cripple then exterminate your enemy. As this is being directed as a pure horror game, expect no audio cues or visual hints of the threats which lay next. Also as it is set in space, there will be a few weightless and decompressed environments. For example, one area in the game is walking along the ship's hull, one wrong jump or one piece of debris hitting you will knock you flying off silently into the emptiness of space.

The game certainly sounds and looks interesting but are you impressed? Will you skip this out because it doesn't look good and it's made by EA? Please discuss. =P

"Looks interesting enough, hopefully there's some substance to it because so far it does seem like one of those more stylish yet no substance games. Of course, also adding the fact it's made by EA also adds some worry in the back of my mind.

Still too early to give a proper verdict on it all so I'm gonna wait until we get some real news of the game before making a judgement.

Anyone else heard that it's reportedly given some players motion sickness? I heard quite a few reports about that issue over the course of E3."

Release Date: March 13th (Xbox 360, Playstation 3) - Available on the same day worldwide

After the massive success of Resident Evil 4, Capcom have brought the series back for one more entry in Resident Evil 5. The game is being created by the minds which helped form the basis of the series in Resident Evil 1 and developed by the team which made the great game Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 5 kicks off ten years later from the original Resident Evil and has infamous Resident Evil hero, Chris Redfield taking the helm as main character once more. This time around, Chris Redfield has joined a unit called B.S.A.A. (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) and has been sent to Africa to investigate the origins of the deadly T-Virus outbreak caused by Umbrella. Though Chris Redfield will not be fighting the infected hordes by himself, he will find a new partner in a woman called Sheva Alomar who is also an agent of B.S.A.A.'s West African branch but not only this, we have been told she plays an important role to the story as a mysterious incident in her past ties her strongly to the plot and the virus's beginnings.

Resident Evil 5 has been slated as a true sequel to the series unlike Resident Evil 4 which began the transition of change in the series. What does this mean? Well, expect events the return of Umbrella and hints to past games, past characters and some old faces. Also confirmed are playable flashbacks from past RE games and nifty new features like the power of light, for example if Chris spends too much time in the dark and steps outside, the camera will take a while to transition and adjust to the light just like your eyes realistically would. Producer Jun Takeuchi has also stated recently that with Chris Redfield returning to the main character position that an important part of the story will come to a close and one of the series's greatest mysteries will be solved. What does this mean? Is this the conclusion to everything Umbrella related? Is Albert Wesker finally going to meet his end?

What are your thoughts on the next true Resident Evil game? Are you excited by it all? Are you disappointed by its similarity to Resident Evil 4? What do you think is going to happen in terms of story? Discuss!

EDIT: Some trailers for those who don't know much and are interested in what the game is like.

The more I play Brawl, the more I'm disappointed at it, consider the series to have one strike on it.

Brawl is Melee 2.0. If someone can explain to me the fuss and hype then I'd appreciate it because when I played it, I played one game and was left with just "Oh, okay, right, yeah. That was fun." Nothing spectacular about it at all."

"Zero Punctation isn't the gospel though and he's said before he's a PC FPS lover so there's one reason why he didn't like it anyway. Another reason is he's not a fan of the series and a non-fan jumping in at the fourth game and saying it sucks because he has no understanding of the past 3 games is like someone jumping in at the end of Star Wars going "Wtf laser swords? Lol crap".

Moving on from that, Metal Gear Solid 2 didn't suck. If it did suck then it wouldn't have sold so well, be praised so well, be highly regarded in the world of gaming and be commonly put in multiple lists of best games ever. There are few people who think it sucked and if you're one of them then well, that would be your personal opinion, not a general fact. Same with Metal Gear Solid 3 but as you said it disappointed *you* so I'll let that slide because I've already addressed this issue in another topic so I'm not going to re-iterate it here again.

Seeing as you seem to think that ZP tells nothing but the god-honest truth then no, you probably wouldn't like MGS4 so I wouldn't even suggest you renting it because the world doesn't really need another Xbot hater. You may think what you like about the game or the series but the fact is it's shifted 3 million copies, boosted PS3 sales worldwide dramatically and is already being hailed as Game of the Year in some quarters and best game ever in the minds of most who's played it then you just may have to accept that MGS has moved on and gone over your head. It has its little problems and hindrances but what game doesn't? No game is perfect.

And to clarify, before you can use this to counter me, this isn't me being a MGS fanboy. I'm a fan of majority rules and if the majority say the game is good then the game is probably good, if I don't like it then that's a matter of my own taste. Like I hate Prince of Persia (the original) but the rest of the world holds it highly, fair enough then, it's my personal taste holding me back. You can't say a series is crap because YOU don't like it."

"I don't really get scared much by games so I can pretty much recall every time I've been genuinely shocked by something in a game. From memory that would be:

Resident Evil Remake: First Crimson Head scared the hell out of me, wasn't expecting it
Resident Evil 4: Oven Man
Silent Hill 2: Pyramid Head first encounter when he's behind the rails and just staring at you and doing nothing else and the radio is going haywire, that disturbed me for a whole night.
Silent Hill 3: The Haunted Mansion. I don't know why, I was joking around about it with my friend but the actual scares did actually make me jump somehow.
Silent Hill 4: Eileen's giant head staring at me, sounds stupid but you try not being creeped out when you enter that room."
