Is it possible to fall in love with an anime character?

"I wouldn't go as far to call it love, I would call it attraction or the same love you feel toward a pet, game, color or book and so on. Calling it real love would be a big shame since I know that feeling real love for another human being is a really great feeling which shouldn't be felt through seeing a comic character.

Also the comic character isn't more than paper and fantasy, it may look good all the time since it is drawn like that and won't change much. But a comic character doesn't have a life it can't think or even move without someone making it up and animating it or drawing it. "

"From reading most of the posts here I get to the conclusion that:

* The reason for forums is not discussing it its for behaving bad on joke or to talk only good about stuff since only the ones who like it will talk about it. Therefore we do not actually need forum since a forum is for real discussions and a discussion can't be build only on positive reactions.

* That any attitude should be respected: does this mean we should respect, racism, murders, rape and stuff like that because people that do that kind of stuff actually think that it is good. Maybe it is their hobby or obsession.
And also is internet only for acting horrible against each other?

This two things doesn't very often apply when you talk on other forums which dosen't have anything with anime or manga to do. In forums which covers other subject people discuss, they like and they dislike, and they don't behave as pigs also they do find things wrong when it has gone to far."

Do fansubs help or hurt anime?

"I also believe fansubs help anime, when I still was into watching anime I watched them with fansubs and if they came to stores in Sweden I bought the interesting once. If I hadn't watched any fansubs I wouldn't have bought any anime at all since I think they are to expensive (everywhere in the world) I can't afforded to buy a dvd with only three episodes and it turns out to be really crappy I would have lost to much money on it.

Also since I am not from America I don't want to have to watch all my anime americanized I want it as the fansubs are in a neutral way. Being Swedish means you have to buy the Americanized anime if you want any anime at all, I think there are about 10 animes which Sweden has license for (pokemon, digemon, Sailor Moon, the basic children stuff). "

"I think that ignoring other peoples opinions is wrong, everyone should have the right to have a opinion of there own so that we can discuss them and find out that everyone is different.

I have been a person which liked to care for people even though I didn't really knew them, opening doors and helping people with stuff even though I didn't know them was fun I thought. But lately humans have become so ungrateful when I open a door for a old woman which has a hard time walking she walks through the door ignoring me totally and after that people just continues to run through the door so that I can't let go of it because I don't want to hurt anyone. Suddenly I have gotten the job of holding the door for everyone and no one thank me instead if I try to let go of the door they look angrily at me.

I don't care much any longer now days I do the stuff people do against me because if I care for them they will behave bad against me."

"I was mainly talking about the fact that many anime fans today can't stand anything negative about anime, manga and Japan. I am well aware that there are others that see negative parts about japan, and it is not that I am trying to find something negative about it. It is just the fact that everything can have bad sides and that is something many anime and manga fans want to ignore since they want to see Japanese comics as holy and unearthly.

I myself like Japanese comics but I still find some animes terrible and some wonderful, I find it strange when people attack me for liking one anime and hating another, what happened to different taste. Take a good example like Code Geas (can't even spell it) it have become a really popular anime and manga, myself I HATE it and when I go to a page where anime/manga fans hangs out and one person makes a topic like "What do you think about Code geas?" Since I am a person who likes discussing i feel that it is fun to learn all different kind of opinions about stuff so I write in the topic: "I hate code geas because..." before I wrote this every post has been "love it", "the best show ever" and so on. There can be hundreds of posts like that but no one ever says "I didn't find it good" can actually only people which like the show gather and reply to the topic? Some people are so afraid of saying "I didn't like the show" that they instead say "this wasn't the best, and that wasn't that good, but it was a great show, the best I have ever seen" In this case "this" and "that" use to be Story and Art the main part of a anime and manga. So when I write "I hated it because..." people start calling me names and freezing me out since I am not allowed to have my opinion to many times have all those strange fans called me "stupid bitch go to hell", "hang yourself" and stuff like that, is that normal? I didn't actually offend them in any way I just said my opinion and explained it since I thought forum was about discussing not just agreeing with everyone else. "

There are so many wierd people on this site. I browse the forums watching people going like: -"Would there still be a meaning in life if the was no anime?" -"I only care about anime, i dont care about people and real life, they are a waste of time" -"Ignorance is Bliss" What are those people thinking? I have checked their ages and they are all 17+. So what would the problem be that someone turns to anime so badly that he ignores everyone and everything exept anime?..

It was actually this topic that killed all my intrest in anime, I still read manga but I stay away from almost every anime forum. I have liked anime and manga for some years but it hasn't been more than liking. I have never seen anime or manga as something else than ordinary comics since they aren't anything more or less than that.

But to many people seem to exaggerate when it comes to anime, manga and Japan overall. To many people act like written in this post they go on in style of -"Would there still be a meaning in life if the was no anime?" myself I find this plain ridicolus. Of course there will be many meanings in life without anime, taking your life for the sake of comics is sick. And what I find most disturbing is that you aren't allowed to talk bad or negative about anime or manga. If you say something like "taking your life for anime is sick" then you will get a answer in the style of:
* You are sick!
* Go to hell!
* Since they are anime fans they don't really mean what they say so it is okay for them to act and do whatever they want because they like anime.
* don't talk about it!
* it is worthless to talk about this.
WHY can't there be bad, negative, not positive things about anime, manga and Japan? Maybe this new trend of liking this kind of things has gone to far. It isn't about just liking a cartoon anymore now it is something holy which you can't bad mouth because then you will be hanged.

"I don't think I could forgive, for me relationship is build on trust and therefore If you can't trust the person you love then there is no meaning in having an relationship. I think that cheating is the worst thing you can do to a person that loves you if you want to meet someone new then end your old realationship and explain everything that way everything will work out better than if you cheat.

And I don't think anyone should be afraid of hurting the partner since either way you end the relationship or cheat you will hurt the person which loves you. It is a matter of choose the least painful thing."

Anime disapointments

"In the beginning some years ago when I started to watch anime it actually was because I was a lover of romance things, books, movies, series and so on already as young anime's like Sailor Moon and other's gave me what I wanted as they where a mix of many genres which I liked. There was so many good mixed anime series everywhere and it was so nice to watch serie after serie filled with what I liked. But now days there isn't any anime which I long for the next episode or feel the feeling of seeing a really touching romance anime, nowday's everything is about love-triangles which I can't get since how often are you involved in a love - triangle ? does automatically getting an boyfriend/girlfriend mean that you just has to have a rival to fight and make all the feeling go away. Then there is the harem and ecchi series which is drowning me with worthless crap, love isn't about 5 girls fighting over one stupid guy which strangely hasn't ever before been seen of any girl but just because one show's up every one must love him.

Then we have the fanservice problem which makes me wonder, is anime only produced to satisfy perverted guys which just has to see naked girls with gigant breasts. Eventhough I know that money is involved in the fanservice question it still makes me think over how gross it is to know that there is so many guys out there which just have to watch ecchi and fanservice to be satisfied.

The anime market is making me so disappointed now days, and that is a fakt the last good anime I remember seeing was Saikano other than that most of them have been crap."

"This is one of the worst an pointless animes I have ever seen in my life. It gathers everything I strongly hate in anime like ecchi, fanservice and harem and I can only see that the soul purpose of this anime is to lure guys which is dying to watch some perverted scence's.

This anime didn't have any story at all and every episode was exactly in the same way and did not change the characthers was so phatetic in their behaviour that I could barley stand them. This was a really brain dead anime which I will stay as far away from as possible. "

"I want to be satisfied, today there is so many animes which dosen't have a point more than to show of some fanservice for intrested guys, or they tend to be harems or love triangles, all of those mentioned makes me so damn unsatisfied it makes me wonder why I ever bother to watch anime since there is more none animated movies and series which is better in story. I am a person who likes a good story to be in only as much episodes that is needed to tell the story, so I hate when a story continue endlessly with new seasons like Shakugan no shana, Clannad and so on. Who want's to read a book where new chapter is added all the time and you can never ever reach the end.

I am only satisfied when I find an anime which has romance, adventure, excitement or anything like that the story should have a good ending or it will leave me unsatisfied, but I have never in my life wished for more when an anime has ended since that would only rule the plot. "

"I hate love triangles, and I hate the characther Yoshida, she is just to much with her complaning and the fact that they actually gives her almost an half episode now and then to go around and feel sorry for herself. There is no point in why she should be in the anime since it isn't really a drama series so no reall love drama is needed and I think love triangles never is needed as it only destroys the feeling and in the end there isn't actually any love just a lot of boring chatter between the two girls who loves the same guys."

"I actually think it would have been better if they had come up with a name of their own for their story and their characthers since it wasn't basically Romeo and Juliet, the names was the thing which was mostly like the real play.
