"Um, there's other pics on the site. If you're going to suggest something, please don't call other people names because they don't understand what you're asking.
"On the contrary, if you think about it, enforcing a universal language, one that is truly universal and is thus mandatory on every single citizen of the world, will essentially kill off cultures. While the language barrier is no more and people are "united", we are again confined to one place. Confined because there is nothing more to explore, nothing unknown. Anything and everything around the world will have seemingly been explored. All cultures exposed, all nuances known. But those wouldn't matter anymore because by then, these differences would have probably died off. Getting the entire world to speak one tongue is an enormous task, requiring billions of people to forget their native language. Requiring billions of people to "unite."
BUT ESO, LOL, I NEVA SAID THEY HAD TO FORGET THEIR OWN LANGUAGE!
Ok, fair enough. If you take a good look around you, English is doing that right now. Major cities around the world who are major players in global economics are fast becoming hot spots of English speakers. Why is this the case? Someone earlier pointed out that English was designated as the international language. That had some significance, however the main cause is the United States of America (if I'm wrong, someone correct me). I think America is big on international trade and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of cities want to get in on that action.
By the way, when the UN was holding a vote session for the interenational language, English won by one vote over German.
Another thought just occured to me. A universal language will definitely make thousands of translators lose jobs. The talent of learning multiple languages is lost. Diversity is effectively ridded." View

My goal is to eventually be able to speak Japanese really fluently. I'm only halfway there now with basic conversational skills.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're nowhere near the halfway mark. I've been studying for a good 3 years and I think I just now reached the tip of the iceberg. Sure, I happen to know a good bit about grammar and whatnot but that doesn't prepare me for the sheer, immense amount of LANGUAGE LEARNING I have to do.
Three whole years and what do I amount to? I could probably rival a 3 year old, if even. Even my friend who is pretty darn good at Japanese says that his Japanese sucks.

"I don't mean to sound pessimistic or anything but most otaku or self-proclaimed otaku who want to learn Japanese never reach semi-fluency. Wanting to learn the language for the purpose of only watching anime and/or read manga is weak. In order to even get perhaps 50% of what they are saying you would probably have to spend at least 2 years studying. And even then, knowing only what they are saying half the time isn't worth it either.
So, if you are truly serious about learning Japanese, more power to you. Otherwise, don't bother. Nothing's more disturbing/funny than an otaku giving up halfway into Japanese 102. I've seen it happen before.
Anyways, I started to learn Japanese because I like to learn languages. My interest in the language WAS reinforced by anime and manga but I grew out of that and really wish to acquire fluency. Even though I don't get much practice since there's hardly any Japanese people where I live, I think at one point in my life, I will have to use it extensively. Besides, I don't like learning things halfway and just leaving that as that." View

Anyways, you people have some discrimination against geeks. Seems to me that you all have this notion that geeks are vulnerable and are unable to fend for themselves. But then again, it's only a label and labels can always change. I suppose if you take that definition, then yes, there would be no geeks. Then what label would you use to describe the smart ones who CAN defend themselves? How about the ones who are smart and aren't always law-abiding citizens? Would they come together to make a gang?" "Sorry to raise the dead but I wanted to share my video. It finally was up but was part of a huge file, 1 GB to be exact, and I had to edit it and whatnot. However, because I'm not so leet with video editing and converting, the file is about 30MB and is only under 2 minutes long. So yeah...
