This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

BLACK

2 years 2 months ago

"Black was a pretty fun game for something with very little plot. It was all about blowing stuff up, and in that respect, the game succeeded. The game is a visual treat for current-gen players, offering something that ironically could best some next-gen attempts. The real treat was seeing everything go up in a blaze of glory...quite unrealistic, but fun as hell. It did get annoying with the whole spray-and-pray method of shooting, but at least you could take a few hits and had a good number of bullets on hand.

My main problem with the game was it was way too short. Each mission takes around 15-30 minutes (maybe more for the later levels) to complete, and there were about 8-10 missions total. And the ending really doesn't answer anything (as if there was anything to really answer) and leaves room for a sequel. Despite my nagging on these points, Black was a fairly solid shooter. I'd give it an 8/10."

Worse RPG!!

2 years 2 months ago

"Quest 64 was by far the worst RPG I've played. I'm not a fan of random battles, but taking three steps before entering one battle after the next is just plain overkill! I got bored with it by the time I got to the first real challenging battle...and when I got frustrated with it, I decided not to play it anymore and send it straight back to the video store. I wish I could reclaim the $4 spent on that waste of a rental.

I didn't really care for Legend of Dragoon, either...but it was far more tolerable than Q64. The problem with Legend of Dragoon was that it was just boring! I kept falling asleep while playing through it...and when it finally got more interesting, it was time to return it; based off that, I decided not to rent it again."

Wireless and wired controllers

2 years 2 months ago

"
garsh0p
i don't know if this goes with all systems, but on the gamecube, the wavebird wireless control from nintendo doesn't have a rumble feature. this is to conserve battery life. so i guess this would be another difference between wired and wireless. i don't know if it matters to many people, but i myself like the rumble feature on games.

With some of the other wireless controllers, you can do the same thing to conserve battery life. I know with the Logitech wireless controller on the Xbox, you could turn the rumble function off if you wish. Personally, I always kept it on.

After playing with a wireless controller for oh-so-long, it's kind of difficult to go back to playing with wired controllers. When I first played with a wireless controller (the very Logitech controller I spoke of), I sat there and nearly fell off the bed, because I thought I had to navigate around the lousy wires, until I came to the realization that there were no wires laying around!

The relief of no wires does have a price, and that would be batteries; but to be honest, I went through a pair of AAs about every year, so it works out. The 360 controller dies a little quicker, but that's what the Quick Charge Kit or the Play and Charge Kit is for. I keep a wired controller around as well, but that is more or less to play PC games with a controller. ;)"

Whats the best 2d fighter?

2 years 2 months ago

"Hmmmm...it's hard to say what the best fighter out there is, even for an opinionated answer! I'm not a big fighting fan per se (ironic - I'm not much for competitve games, but rather cooperative play), but I've always enjoyed GGXX #Reload as well as Marvel vs. Capcom 2, if anything, for its over-the-top gameplay. It's always gratifying to launch a 100+ hit combo on the dumb-as-nails computer. ;)"

PS3, yes or no?

2 years 7 months ago

"I'm broke; therefore I know I'm not getting this immediately. As for whether or not I will get one down the road, that's something I don't know yet. As strange and sad a reason as it may seem, I'm not too fond of the air of arrogance I'm getting from Sony...that, and their products seem to break easier than the competition! :P (Unrelated to note that I went through 3 of their CD players in a couple of years...they all somehow broke or started to malfunction)"

Onimusha:DAWN OF DREAMS

2 years 7 months ago

"I don't know why, this entry in the Onimusha series just didn't sound all that appealing to me. It looks okay, but doesn't look to have that same kind of sparkle that the last couple of games had. I'm still irked at the thought of having an *unlockable* co-op mode...but I'm grateful that they actually thought about it this time. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see when it's released stateside."

CHRONO TRIGGER!!!

2 years 7 months ago

"Chrono Trigger was one of the first RPGs I played on the SNES, as sad as it may sound. My RPG addiction started with Final Fantasy i / VI (played it rather late, too). After completing FFVI, I could stop renting it finally. I heard about this whopper of an RPG and had that urge that I needed to get it...but living in Germany at the time makes it kind of hard to get a US copy. Fortunately, my dad was able to snag a copy and I was in heaven. ^_^"

Capcom heading to PC

2 years 7 months ago

"
vindemon64

That is bizarre. Most of the games Capcom plan to ship over to the PC, you do need great controller skills. Though I dont believe these games are going to do that well on the PC. Don't ask me why, its just a gut feeling I have.

To me, it just sounds like the games will completely hog the PC if they are sloppily ported over...considering they weren't released on the PC first, it really sounds like you will need a hefty computer to be able to run them."

What grinds your gears?

2 years 7 months ago

"An incident from last year fits this question for me:

People who try to act the victim / people who blame others for what happened with no real good reasoning. Case in point: last year I was driving on a back road, and I stop at the stop sign, waiting to turn right. A pickup truck takes a left turn...right into my car. He dents the left side of my car, pinning my door shut; the front end of his truck looks fine. I ask for his insurance information, but he shakes his head as if he doesn't understand me. Turns out, he doesn't understand me as he can speak very little English. I call my mom, she calls the police, and we all play the waiting game. The police officer shows up, and she asks for his insurance, and he pulls it out! That's the first thing that irritated me. When he was explaining his story, he said I was in the middle of the road, despite being closest to the side of the stop sign. There's another thing. The guy doesn't have his license on him. Oops. The police officer cannot make out what happened, and said no one was responsible for what happened - the only satisfaction I got was knowing she gave him several tickets. Oh well, at least SOMETHING was done. I still haven't fixed the door. :P"

Little cousins, brothers, sisters...

2 years 7 months ago

"I've no brothers or sisters...whether that's a good thing or not, that's another story; I've too many cousins, though. A couple of them are older than me, while I'm older than a good portion of them. They used to be pretty annoying, but now that they've matured, I'm wishing for those old days again! ^_^;"

What Games Are You Waiting For?

2 years 7 months ago

"Since I've sort of fallen out of the gaming boat just a bit, my list of anticipated titles is pretty small.
(* = I know there is no US date, but I'll still put it here anyway!)

GC:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

PS2:
DMC 3: SE (yeah, it'll be out in a day or two...)
Final Fantasy XII
Grandia i
*Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria

PSP:
*Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

Xbox:
Black

Xbox 360:
Burnout Revenge (okay, I have the Xbox version, but I'm a sucker for upgraded games)
Gears of War

I know there is much more than this, but I can barely see the monitor at the moment, much less think!"

Grandia

2 years 7 months ago

"Grandia 1 was one of those games I tried for no other reason than it looked different. Then I heard about the great reviews...and I was sold! I've only played 1 & 2, and while 2 looks better, 1 is just enjoyable for how fun and lighthearted it can be!"

How did you get started?

4 years 3 months ago

"I do not remember how my love for anime started. I remember enjoying Robotech back in the 80s, and catching Speed Racer on MTV in the early 90s, but I was pretty ignorant of their origins. I guess it all really started with Ranma ½. I did not know what it was about at the time, but just the look itself caught my eye. It took me a couple of years after to actually watch an episode (kind of hard to find at the American bases in Germany), but I am glad I did...a new hobby was born! <!--emo&--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->"

Anybody excited about Halo 2?

4 years 3 months ago
