This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

You need papers to download scans, yes. However, you don't have to BUY them necessarily. Check the faq for more details... basically, just be active on the website and you'll be fine.

Do you believe that BISEXUALITY exists?

7 months 2 weeks ago

"Physical attraction and sexual attraction are different. To be physically attracted to someone means that you are drawn to that person's physical appearance - there is something attractive about them (whether it's body structure, facially, etc.). However, it doesn't necessarily entail that there is sexual attraction. So a person can be emotionally, physically, intellectually and socially attracted to another without feeling any need to jump into bed with that person. I believe that people can be sexually attracted to both sexes just as there are people who not sexually attracted to either sex. I don't believe that a person who is sexually attracted to one sex and is only intellectually, physically or emotionally attracted to the other sex to be defined as bisexual. To me, bisexuality simply means to be sexually attracted to both sexes and if that person is not sexually attracted to both sexes (regardless of whether it's actualizes), then he/she is not bisexual."

Have you ever been hit on by someone of the same sex?

7 months 2 weeks ago

"Never been hit on by anyone of the same sex - though I don't get hit on at all! It could be because I'm a workaholic and if I'm not working, I'm sleeping. Then again, if it's not obvious I wouldn't even notice any kind of flirting. I usually have my blinders on which I guess might come from lack of socialization. However, I do notice that I get hit on by men who are my parents' age. Now that's creepy."

Final fantasy 7

Expensive Things... Does it really give you status?

1 year 2 months ago

"

I am extremely stingy, and I can't see the sense in forking out a few thousand for a bag or some accessories, when an equivalent one can be found for cheaper. It's just the brag factor that they are buying.

There is nothing equivalent. If you look at the quality of the craftsmanship to a particlar product and compare it to something else that requires less craftsmanship, they don't equate at the same level. If you want to purchase something for a lot less money, then you should expect lower quality. It's really that simple. A $40 US handbag from Walmart can't be compared to a $700 US LAMB handbag. The quality, durability and distinctiveness isn't there in a $40 Walmart bag. However, if that's what you can afford or willing to spend, then that's okay. There's no problem with it.

Not everyone who purchases designer items do it so they can brag. Personally, I think it's rather silly to go up to someone to tell them how much his/her purchase cost and the designer's name. I buy almost everything designer and I don't walk around bragging about it. I wear the clothes and carry the handbags and accessories because I like the way they look on me and couldn't care less if anyone knows they're designer or not (and most of the time, they don't know).

People who can afford to buy Prada, Gucci, Michael Kors, etc. and do buy them, don't automatically make them evil, frivolous, or bad people. The same thing is true of people who don't purchase those things as well. There seems to be a misguided notion by most of the people who posted in this thread that somehow being poor or being frugal automatically makes someone a great outstanding citizen. Just as buying expensive items don't automatically give you a higher social status (you also have to examine other factors as well), economic status and social status does not necessarily equate with morality or one's ethical beliefs. I know some horrible people who are frugal. They don't spend their time doing any volunteer work and lack any generousity. They are pretty much mean-spirited. So people who are poor or people who aren't but are frugal can be just as superficial.

Other factors in determining one's social status:

Education level: a high priced prostitute can afford expensive things but on the social ladder, she/he is pretty low. A person with higher social status tends to be more educated.

Miscellaneous expenditures: Is a person more willing to go to the Opera or to a baseball game? It's really about what one values.

Teeth or Health: This is especially true in North America. People with higher social status are often more likely to have a good set of chompers and often in better health, mostly because they can afford healthcare and dentalcare.

Though social status is heavily influenced by economic status, they are not the same thing. A PHD student doing research whose economic status is pretty low may and probably is quite high in social status."

Underweight

1 year 2 months ago

"The thing is others think that it's healthier to be underweight than overweight because underweight people supposedly have less fat - but that's not necessarily true. There are quite a number of underweight people who have high internal obesity. This means they have less surface fat because most of the fat is stored in the major organs: liver, heart and kidneys instead of being stored on the surface. So you can be obese and still look like a walking skeleton. What is lacking is muscle mass. So a person with more surface fat is healthier than a person who looks thin with lots of internal fat. If you eat a lot of junkfood, you'll just be storing it as internal fat, even if you have a high metabolism. Your body will get rid of the calories you take into your body but the fat content will still be there. That's one of the reasons why, a person can still be very thin but eat junk food all the time and still maintain little body fat.

I know from personal experience - though I've been accused of being anorexic looking I was never 84 pounds."

Expensive Things... Does it really give you status?

1 year 2 months ago

"I like buying luxury designer clothes and I only shop at a few places (Nordstroms, Hugo Boss and MaxStudio). So no, I don't shop for clothes, handbags and shoes at stores like Walmart, American Eagle, Gap, etc. It's not about trying to be a higher status or looking like I'm wearing designer clothing - none of my clothes even have the designer names on them, except for the label. I find it rather tacky to wear a shirt with the name Prada on the front. For me, designer clothes reflect quality and uniqueness and a trained eye can tell the difference between a knockoff and a designer.

I do believe as a person gets older and more involved in their careers, that they should start buying more luxury clothing - really one can't go into a business dinner wearing clothes from American Eagle. A child or a teenager can get away with wearing a lot cheaper clothes because it's not really necessary. If you're no longer a teenager and out of school, cheap clothes make you look cheap."

The "Rebuild of Evangelion"

1 year 3 months ago

"Seriously they should just let Evangelion die. I always thought it was a boring series to begin with (it's message of teenage angst and isolation is totally meaningless to me as I was not fourteen years old when I watched the series) and Gainax has been milking this anime for way too long.

Those who wait for manga

1 year 3 months ago

"I'm following so many series right now that are released in North America that even if I hate waiting for one series, I always have another series to fall back on. I'm a huge manga collector and absolutely hate reading manga online, so delays for a series is expected. The problem is I tend to buy all my mangas at one time and read them as quickly as possible. I need to pace myself."

What manga do you think should have a sequel?

1 year 3 months ago

"I wouldn't mind a sequel to Antique Bakery - Fumi Yoshinaga's works always end too soon. I would love a sequel to Mail as well - it's really too bad the series ended with only 3 volumes. It's fairly episodic so it would've been sweet to flesh out the main character's past and personality more. "

Game franchises that need to die... and why?

1 year 3 months ago

"I don't agree that a franchise need to necessarily die - bad games should die seriously regardless of whether it's a game within a franchise. I thought Resident Evil 4 was the best in the RE series. It's like they finally got almost everything right.

I find that as Final Fantasy series upped their graphics wow factor, their storylines have weakened considerably. Still I'm waiting for FFXi - as well as the new RE and Metal Gear ^___^"

Do u beat everything and then U get bored LOL

1 year 3 months ago

"Actually beating a game is quite rare for me. I love playing videogames but I can't seem to get past the harder stages of the games. Before when my brother used to live with me, he would get me past certain bosses, puzzles or stages, so I can finish the game. Now, I have almost a dozen games that I haven't been able to finish so they're collecting dust. I think out of like a hundred games (at least I've stopped counting) I've only maybe finished 10 max."

"I watched the first two episodes and I enjoyed the series so far. It's pretty brainless just like the games but it's all fun. As an anime series based off of a videogame, it's actually pretty good - the animation quality is high (Dante looks great in the anime too) and the action scenes were decent - could use more action sequences though."

Development of Female Characters

1 year 4 months ago

"The lack of character development in female leads depends on the anime series or movies that you choose to watch. If you choose to watch a series that is centred on the lead male character, you'll tend to find weak female characters. It's natural that you can't have a secondary female character outshining the male lead. Of course this isn't always the case, ex. Planet ES. My advice is to select anime series/movies that contain strong female leads instead.

Some suggestions:

Almost any of Miyazaki's movies
Only Yesterday
The Cat Returns
The Twelve Kingdoms
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Niea_7
Ghost in the Shell
Read or Die
Honey & Clover
Haibane Renmei
Serial Experiments Lain
Tsukikage Ran
Rose of Versailles
Paprika

Subbing

"This thread kind of reminded me of AnimeJunkies' fansubbing of the Gundam Seed series. I remember it was supposedly riddled with errors. I don't know if anyone here remembered the most infamous one was in which one of the episodes had the subtitles: "naked mass child kidnapping". O___O

That was too funny! They took a lot of flak for that episode."

What do you do when you feel crappy?

"I watch some comedic anime series like Azumanga Daioh or Hare + Guu. During bad times, I can always use a good laugh.

Another thing I like to do is to take a bubblebath and read a novel or a manga. It helps me unwind, especially if I had a really lousy day."

What will u do if your girlfriend/ boyfriend hate anime??

1 year 5 months ago

"Right now, I'm not seeing anyone in particular. However, I do hope my future boyfriend would be interested in anime and manga - though from past experiences, it never seemed to work out that way. If not, I guess I'll have to watch it alone or with others who enjoy it.

Anime is a hobby so not everyone is going to be sharing the same hobby. If my boyfriend loves camping, which I hate passionately - I wouldn't expect to be dragged along on camping trips. So I wouldn't force something like anime on someone who wouldn't like it."

I don't think that this guy was simply crazy -as you can see, a 4th year English major is not the same as a kid with a gun.

So a university student can't be crazy? That smacks of elitism. I didn't know that crazy is confined to children and the uneducated."

college shooting

1 year 5 months ago

"As Chris Black said before, "Whatever happened to just crazy?"

Being a Spec Ed educator last year and who worked with children between 6 - 14 years old who have severe behavioural disorders, this mass killing by a troubled student is not something that shocking. Some of the student records I dealt with are like 20 bibles thick and filled with violent disturbances. Usually, a person doesn't immediately on a rampage of killing without any signs. There are always signs - it's just whether they're ignored or not. For example, a couple of the spec ed team (very seasoned teachers) who had a 12 year old student as part of their caseload about 10 years ago knew that regardless of intervention that he would end up hurting someone. This was brought up during our meeting because he was found guilty of double homicide (slashed the throats of 2 taxicab drivers) - everyone knew he was going to kill someone - it wasn't an if but a when he would do it. Just like I can predict from last year caseload that regardless of intervention, which students will end up committing murder, battery and assault or rape.

I remember back when I was in high school, we had a lock down because some senior from another high school ran through our school carrying a gun. He was trying to take revenge on some guy he had a fight with the day before. I was in my computer science class at that time and our teacher had to lock the door, shut the lights and hid behind our desks. Scared the crap out of us."

What do you think is most important in an anime?

1 year 5 months ago

"For me the most important reasons to why I would watch a particular anime series or movie is first: the plot - if it sounds interesting then I'll probably try it out. The second is the quality of the animation itself. Low quality animation can really ruin a good storyline."

No, it's not an anime series. It's a JDorama about 11 episodes long. There's also a couple of the manga series on it as well. The tv series basically a retelling except longer with more character development."

Something that happens with Dubbed and Subbed Anime

1 year 6 months ago

"I tend to watch subbed and dubbed versions of an anime series or movie. It doesn't bother me one way or another. I don't claim to be fluent in Japanese, so it doesn't make much a difference to me. Actually when I first started watching anime, I watched it subtitled back about 6-7 years ago. Even now, I watched more subtitled series than I do dubbed. If it's available in English or Japanese I'll watch it as long as the series is good - I'm not an elitist."
