As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!

My vote for #2 is against my principals since I hate standard stroked lines, but the vector just 'works'. It's nice and basic, making it very suitable for basing a wallpaper on. In other words, it's a great addition to the AP gallery. And that counts fir me.

Well done participants!"

"Please don't use Tinypic for uploading your images. The max. image size there is 1600px and it will automatically rescale your image to match that limit.
Imageshack.us makes a good alternative.

SamB, that's a very nice first vector. Sure there are some irregularities and rude edges here and there, but you did a good job nonetheless.

I wanted to skip this Vectadesu, but found an old Canaan WIP vector that I might be able to finish in time. It's going to be a pain in the ass to get the lighting and shadowing right >_<"

"Haha Kakashi, I was wondering the same. It's also the reason why I haven't decided on a scan yet, because I'm pretty sure someone else is thinking about doing a Canaan vector as well :3"

"@ Albel-Ryuuji: of course! That's basically the reason why I vector in the first place, lol. And I'm sure many people here would agree that own input is more appreciated than a 1-on-1 copy of the scan. When done well, that is ^^. "

"I said "for inspiration", not that the was a stict guideline :P

Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, but you are allowed to use a scan that was scanned before 2009, while the series weren't released before '09, right?
For instance Kiddy Girl-and (Kiddy Grade 2) has some old scans from 2007, but the series started airing this year. "

"For inspiration, here's the Wiki list of 2009 anime series.

@SamB: vectoring a b&w scan is definitely allowed, but it's known to be pretty difficult. So if you're new to vectoring, I strongly suggest trying an easier scan first, with enough outline, color and shadow information."

Why do guys prefer long hair on girls or is this an incorrect generalization?

4 weeks 1 day ago

"In my opinion, the question is not whether a guy prefers long hair over short (or any other hairstyle), but what kind of woman a guy prefers. Hair, together with clothing and general attitude/behaviour, is of course a very important way of expressing who you are. Short hair makes you look tough and independant, whereas long hair can make you look more reserved (unless worn in a ponytail).

Surely an equally important question is whether a hairstyle fits a girl, but again, I think men are more likely to fall for the overall look and attitude rather than the hair itself.

If you'd ask me, I just prefer girls that look like they can take care of themselves. Short hair is usually a good sign, but I like ponytails as well (Tomb Raider syndrom, probably). Depending on the rest of the body though, even with long hair you can pull off the right look.

On a side note, I'm a guy with long hair. Now, I know there's some girls that get put off if a guy has longer hair than themselves (which sounds idiotic to me). Same goes the other way around though, I know some guys that would never consider talking up to a girl with shorter hair than themselves.
How is your opinion on that?"

"Hehe, you guys want to kill the Vectadesu contests? Come on, first one had 13 entries, this one 8 and I assure you the next will have even less if you pick the monochrome theme.
Keep it simple."

"Woot, deadline today. 8 entries is pretty nice and they're all good as well. Dunno if there'll be more last minute entries, but with 8 now, I suggest people can vote for 2 instead of the 3 we did last time. "

Original Scan:

Needless to say, Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop (original series aired from 1998 to 1999). I especially wanted a handdrawn-style scan, because that marks basically all pre-2000 series, for obvious reasons. I tried to maintain the rough outlining in my vector, while at the same time giving it a very clean touch-up.
Because of the short deadline and me being quite busy lately, I skipped all the gradient effects and ended up making a pretty basic vector. It sure gives the image a clean look, but admittedly, it all feels a bit too... empty, I guess. Ah well, take it as a style-choice and I hope you guys will appreciate it :)"
