"Alright, I think this is it.

Based on the advice given on multiple sources (including you Astro :P) I think I've finally come to a version that not only I, but anyone else could be happy with.

I got rid of the ghost duplicates of Haruhi, and I went to town with a grunge brush or 20, trying -many- different techniques to fill in the rest of the background. And this is what the result was.

I think I'll be submitting this one and see what the mods think of it...

"I tried using so many of my brushes before on alternate versions of this wall, and each time everyone continued to say that it still looked empty on the side. I'll wait to get a few more opinions on this one before I start changing it up again, but I do appreciate the suggestions Astro.

Whatever the end result will be, I hope people will enjoy it; this is probably the hardest I've ever worked on a single wall."

"Alright, I appreciate everyones comments and ideas on it, and I think I may have the final solution here.

Everyone I've talked to said they like the concept of the background, but it's far too empty and thought it needed something else to it. So, I sat in front of my computer staring at the wallpaper until I saw the title again: Fade to Black. An idea sparked and I went to work cleaning up the vector again (by the way, credit to ash-hikari for the vector) and got rid of the broken up Haruhi. I blurred the edges, made Haruhi larger and not broken up, and made 2 duplications of her fading into the background, getting smaller and smaller with lower opacities.

I'm not sure if this is the final final step, but if anyone see some items that could use some tweaking, please let me know!

I just realized that I think I may have made the image at a bad resolution, which would explain the pixelatedness... it's a little late for me to change it now though, so I'll have to mess around with it tomorrow.

Also, I probably should have explained more, but the whole idea behind this wall was just using the stock to complete the entire piece; hence why I used all of those smudge brushes to sort of fill the background up and make that odd background behind him; it's all the stock, nothing added but smudging."

"Personally, I'd find myself a handgun and start shooting every zombie I see, hoping to God that they (for one reason or another) have more handgun ammo. I'd continue doing this as I wander through the town, until a strange man in a coat starts talking to me, flashing me and following me around, offering me upgrades to my weapons and calling me "stranger" no matter how many times I'd tell him my name. Afterwards, I'd find a blonde girl who'd start following me around asking me for help every few seconds and keep getting in the way of my bullets when there's zombies around us. Then I'd get sick of her and leave her to the zombies.

The end. Best story ever."

"Alright, another wall for Session Zero! :D

It's a little small due to photobucket but I think you should be able to see the details well enough. I wanted to know if people liked the effect I used at the lower half of the piece, its a grunge brush that I made to look like another layer of fog, and tried to make it transparent enough to see the forest floor. I'll mess around with it some more to see if the forest floor can come out a bit more, but any tips or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen people post their walls both ways, and the photobucket thing just seemed to take up too much space, made people posting help angry and also didn't have the benefit of the adding notes to the page, so I just thought that posting a hotlink would be better. Turns out I was wrong and need to read FAQs more often <_<

As for the advice, I guess you're right about the extraction/blending, I've tried my best to make it look united somehow but I suppose it just isn't working. I've made the stock's shading and hues match the background as best I could without making the entire image look nasty, tried using brushes to make it look more like the background as well, bouncing back and forth with different techniques, and none of them seem to be working.

I'm not sure how you see the scan as yellowish though, it looks pretty blue on my screen."

Sent the wallpaper in after touching it up a bit and got it back 5 minutes later, so I need some more advice on what's wrong with the wall all around. I've been touching up small parts here and there on Yuki and adjusting the colors... but more input would be fantastic."

"Well, if you mean extraction the way i'm thinking of (using the pen tool, etc. etc.), then you might want to try extracting in Illustrator, because in my opinion you get more control of the pen than you do in photoshop, you can use layer colors to get a better view of your pen's path if the image is a dark or light color (I have that problem all the time, when the image is really dark in photoshop and you try to pen it when its just that dotted line). Also, you can go in and edit the pen's path after you finish with the direct select tool to better adjust everything.

"So I'm sitting here in the library, waiting on my next class to start, without the tools to work on any wallpapers or anything, and I just had an odd thought pop into my head out of the blue.

If you could just magically make some sort of tool for any editing program, and it would flawlessly work every time, what would it be?

I don't think something like "auto wallpaper maker" would be too great, but I'm sure thats what some people are thinking. I, however, was thinking something along the lines of an "auto vector" tool. Take an image, cut it all out with the pen tool, have the program scan the image for some amount of time, and poof! Instant vector. You could even adjust the settings of the tool to change the color scheme of the image, to make it abstract, black and white, etc.

Of course vectorings still good fun, I love it. But it can get annoying when that direct select tool just doesn't want to make your curves turn the exact way you want them to, and you try it over and over again until you say "screw it, i'll take the long road" after smashing your head on your keyboard a few times... yeah, that'd be nice. Or maybe not nice...
