"I won't criticize every drawing on it's own, I'll just point out a few problems that I see that repeat in other drawings

as Phoenix mentioned, the drawings are rather flat; aside from shadows, darker lines on the side with no lighting would also give some dimension. Also strings generally are just expressed with one bold line.

Now your lines seem overly short and sketchy, try using longer lines; use your arms shoulders to draw rather then just your wrist

For low contrast monitors...this is gonna look veeeery shitty...well...more shitty

anyways first off...this is the first time I've done painting one only 1 layer...usually I do it in 2 or 3 layers (1 for the foreground, 1 for the mid-ground and one for the background)

anyways, also my first complete "original" character illustration and not fanart... the quotes are there because it's not very original...neither is the technique I used to paint this...

for those that frequent deviant art...can you guess who's style I borrowed/stole/bastardized? a hint...he's recently submitted a lot of Bleach fanart, has a really distinct style, and he's also quite popular. he's also from my school...damn he's good...

no planning went into this...just whatever came to mind at the time, kind of a speedpainting...an 8 hour speedpainting done in photoshop"

"The scan doesn't look like much work was done on it to clean it, and the text is horrible and too excessive, the picture should be able to explain itself, try to minimize the text.

now back to the scan, the extraction seems too jaggy, try using the pen tool or zoom in to 1600% and use the polygonal lasso tool and very slowly outline the scan, and also try to match the lighting and the hues of the background with the scan. you can do this buy duplicating the layer, gaussian blurring it between 2.8-3.2 then go to the photo filter function under image>adjustments, and choose one that fits your taste, preferably a "cool" filter in this case. then set the layer to overlay or hard light or whatever(experiment) and that white behind the scan doesn't look very good, so I'd get rid of that...

anyways that's pretty much all the paper I need..."

then I have 30-50 pound backpack on top of that I put the variance, because sometimes I'm lucky and don't have to carry all those books. :P

"You can change the opacity of "Modern Technology" and move them closer together and then overlap chobits over the two words, or vice versa...and seriously...the scan is waaay over exposed still...you should really fix that...

"Scan is over-exposed, get rid of the white pixels, and like puppychow16 said, don't whore the brushes; photoshop has so many functions, use them, things like the smudge tool, the default brushes, clone stamp, vectors(kinda) and all that crap could be utilized"

"First, looks like you used the eraser tool and/or magic wand to extract the image, you shouldn't. the pen tool or the polygonal lasso works a lot better, as you get smoother results (with feathering)

second, what's with the yellow dots?

third, you need to work on the font...try going to dafont.com and try looking for better fonts, and try changing positioning, opacity, overlapping, different colours for different segments of text, size and yada yada...
