"About 5 hours ago, I uploaded a wallpaper. Everything was normal, and the "your image has been accepted" little notification guy at top came out as well. Everything was all cool. Then, my DSL connection went out. In my confusion, (yes, I was confused indeed), I saw that I still had the same amount of wallpapers, that no new wallpaper had appeared on the front page, etc etc. I waited 10 minutes, and still no change. So naturally, I thought that due to my internet connection breakage, that I hadn't actually submitted anything. Thus I uploaded another copy of my wallpaper. I thought to myself, "meh", and walked away. Had dinner, watched TV, etc.

So here's the thing.

About 20 minutes ago, I got an AP bot message saying "blah blah...double upload", which, yes, I did upload the wallpaper twice. But the problem is, why did my wallpaper end up in the moderation queue in the first place? I've been a senior member for a good amount of time now, so this shouldn't happen, right? I'm guessing the reason might be related to this:

About a week ago, I donated a small amount of money to AP, thus the status "Donating Member". Maybe the system recognizes me as a regular donating member now?

Hypothetically, I could test my theory by uploading a pile of stuff, but I'd rather not do that...

But near the beginning, the character November mentions that a cigarette, when inhaled directly contains, i think, 5-65 [insert appropriate unit of measurement here...] of nitrosamines, but when exhaled afterwards, contains about 600 [units of above chemical]. I was just curious to the more technical circumstances to this.

I've been trying to look this up on google and wikipedia, but can somebody shed some more light on why exhaled smoke contains more of this chemical?"

"Okay, I was in a state of delusion one day, but here's what I did...

On my laptop (which was working fine), I right clicked the C drive icon, hit properties, hit the 'compress disk' option. About a minute or two into the compression, I hit cancel. Everything was fine. Then I restarted my laptop...

Now, after the initial Dell screen (I have an Inspiron 6000), I get a message saying:

error message

BOOTMGR is compressed.

Press ctrl+alt+del to reboot

I've tried reinstalling windows (I have a vista DVD), but because I still need the files on my computer, I didn't completely format my hard drive. Basically, reinstalling the new windows over the old one didn't fix the compressed bootmgr problem.

Now, what I want to know: if I can't boot up my computer, is there any way that I can retrieve my files? Because if I can do that, I can just format my hard drive and reinstall windows from scratch.

So if anyone has any idea how I can get the data off my hard drive, I greatly appreciate any suggestions.

"I'm using the newest vlc on windows xp.

My problem is, I shot a couple of AVIs on a digital camcorder, and I transferred them to my computer. However, when I opened the AVI files with either vlc or windows media player, only the sound would stream, and not the video. media player said that codecs were missing, and it proceeded "to acquire codecs", and then it said "codecs acquired". However, there was still no video streaming.

I tried downloading an avi codec pack...didn't work. How many different avi codec packs are there, anywyas?

Also, I was previously able to play other AVI files without a hitch; for some reason, it was only the AVI files that I shot with my camcorder that doesn't work. Note this: I tried playing the camcorder videos on a friends computer, and it worked perfectly fine (he's even more computer illiterate than me, so I couldn't get any help from him).

I'm really confounded by this...some of my avi files work, and some don't? Even though by playing them on my friend's computer, I've confirmed that the file itself is not damaged?

By the way, what is user32.dll supposed to do? My computer itself isn't acting funny at all, though. The only thing abnormal is the occasional startup problem I described earlier. Often, restarting will fix the issue right away (until some time in the future, when it pops up again). I'll probably backup my data...just don't want my computer to suddenly crash beyond repair :(

"Aight, exactly. I do in fact want to know why AVG tagged this file as "change". It's also why I'm asking here. AVG doesn't say 'change what'...it just says 'change'. I was hoping if you knew what could possibly happen to user32.dll that might cause something like this...i.e. could another virus have "corrupted" this dll somehow?

Also, since I'm using a laptop, I haven't made any hardware changes, and no driver changes. The only thing that comes to mind is I downloaded an update file for my router via the 192.168...blah blah router config screen (Netgear). However, I downloaded this a good deal before the sporadic bluescreens started showing up.

So you're saying that it's usually not likely for the user32.dll to cause bluescreens? If so, should user32.dll have an error (and I really don't have the money to buy another virus scanner currently...), what should I do with it?
