Command & Conquer Generals

"Well recently, I popped in a copy of C&C Generals, and after being enthralled again and again by previous titles from the C&C franchise, I expected quite a bit.

Lemme just say, I don't care too much about the graphics...it's kinda like Warcraft i, and the cities reminded me of Battletanx (and old N64 game by 3DO). Unfortunately, the only 3D RTS I've played that worked out really well was Age of Empires i.

Even disregarding its faults, Generals could've made a good game. It's premise was pretty cool, and it definitely satisfies whatever military nerdism you may have. It just seemed like, more effort could've been put into the smaller details of the game. I mean, the US Ranger looks nothing like an Army Ranger, the Red Guard looks nothing like a Chinese soldier, not even from the '60s (which they were modeled after).

It's really not a bad game...I just felt disappointed because it went to far from the C&C style of gameplay. No cinematics either...just in-game style videos.

I also thought more creativity and play options could've been put into the "generals" aspect of the game. I mean, just a couple of skill points and that's all you can do?

Meh, anyone else feel this game?"

"If you have a program like gimp (it's free) or photoshop (not free...), try using the 'save to web' option to optimize filesize...AP usually likes things under 2mb...

It should say '1 scan entry' once you've submitted it, even if it hasn't been approved yet. If it gets rejected, it goes down to '0', and it will only appear once it gets accepted."

Final impressions of a very modernist anime

"I saw there were about 5 threads concerning this series, but this'll be the first since the entire series finished airing.

For some reason, this anime reminded me a little of Honey and Clover (though completely different subject manner), its stream-of-consciousness storytelling and very modern approach made it a cleverly unique series.

In addition to nice dashes of style throughout, NHK explored (and did quite a good job) at some more obscure and darker sides of society (Japan's rabid otaku culture, internet suicides, etc). I think NHK managed to tell a good story because the creators didn't completely need to adhere to 'realistic situations', and instead moulded a story out of culture-specific topics that many of us probably aren't too familiar with.

Because it's a more modern work, the plot of NHK didn't even have to be too coherent, yet it still provided a dynamic feel to the entire series. The characters sometimes are definitely crazy but NHK made it so that you could still understand and relate to their insane perspectives on the world. I think that the series could have been improved if some of the characters' pasts could've been touched on and developed a little bit more.

If there's anything I had to complain about, it's that the ending seemed a little too rushed for me. The climax wasn't very compelling, and it lasted to short. The series kind of just solved itself without too much viewer involvement, so I was a little disappointed that such an interesting and intriguing anime ended so...normally.

Overall, I think if you want something that's completely out-of-the-ordinary, and you have a good imagination (a crazy one would be even better), then give NHK a spin. Just forget about conventional plot and storytelling, and let NHK entertain you in its own way..."
