This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"Well, I love the complexity in moves that I can get from Ivy, but unless I've taken some time to refresh myself on her combos I have trouble just jumping back into the game and beating people with her. Calamity Symphony is, without a doubt, my favorite move in the game. Not only is it really cool looking, but it'll drain half your enemies life while Ivy laughs at them.

I probably do the best with Talim, Taki and Cervantes. I love Cervantes' counters and "Storm Generate" is probably my #2 fav move in the game. For the other two, I like to move around a lot. I like Taki because she has all those evasive manuvers and ninja moves, and I like Talim because she has several fun moves that let me either throw peoples faces in the dirt or sit on them and pound on their face. Also, it's hilarious to watch Talim dominate Astaroth in a fight. ^_^

Fighting aside, I like Cervantes and Nightmare the best. Two vicious, brutal, brutal monsters out to find "the precious." Although Nightmare is usually slow, he has a a bunch of fast combos. I just thought I'd point that out to everyone who keeps calling him slow. He's only slow when he's making big swings with his sword, unlike Astaroth who's slow all the time."

what type of personalities do you hate?

"Arrogant ignorance is what I find most irritating. People who are absolutly sure that they're right for their ignorant reasons. It's cool if you're just ignorant because you don't know, but you're willing to learn if someone would just tell you. That's totally cool with me. It's just the ones who are convinced by their stupidity and won't even entertain a logical argument that piss me off. (President Bush, for example)

Any other arrogance comes in second. Anyone without an ounce of humility, really. Trust me on this; no matter how great you think you are, you're still not so much better then everyone else that you can treat them like the shit on the bottom of your shoe. "

Swords vs Guns! The Ultimate Showdown in AP!! (I got a location!)

1 year 7 months ago

"As much as I like swords, I can't deny that IRL guns are far more efficient killing tools. A killing blow from a sword requiores a lot of energy from the swordsmen, while our gunner needs only deal with the recoil of his gun and the energy requiored to hold a firing position. However, a sword needs no ammo, no reloading, never jams, and cannot be rendered useless by causing the swordsman to swing at enough decoys (though the blade can be dulled a little). However, most of those gun problems can be solved/ minimized by enough training and careful ammo conservation. IRL, I really like the M-16 A/6 assault rifle with N203 grenade launcher or the Barret M-107 .50 cal anti-armor sniper rifle. Those are my guns of choice.

In a fantasy world, swords are the weapon of choice for those who have the skill and power to use advanced, magical techniques, while a gun better serves a normal human who has no access to magic. In this world I would probably take the Thundar Pike from the series Inuyasha's "Thundar Brothers" It's not a sword, but it's a bladed weapon and I'm better with pole weapons then with swords. That, and I like lightning/ thundar a lot.

In either case (IRL or fantasy), I would would also like a gunblade. It's the perfect short-range/ CQC combination and a fusion of both swords and guns. Too bad they don't exist. If they did, I would already have one or two or 'em. They aren't perfect as either weapon, but it's the versitility that I like about them."

Are your pets destructive?

1 year 7 months ago

"
BIOfury
Well neither one of my dogs have ever destroyed any of my various computer parts, but they are rather destructive when it comes to dog toys. Don't think you really care about this but i'll share it anyway. They really like those fluffy-animal-dust-rag looking things and are known to shred and de-stuff then in a single afternoon. My mom got really tired of them doing that, obviously, so she bought one of those "indestructable" dog chew toys, but it still didn't really last that long. The only thing i lose occationally to my dogs is my socks sometimes. I also get animal hair on them all the time so i can relate to you there. Yay for having pets

HeHeHe, My dog steals my socks and tries to chew on anything with a velcro strip on it. But aside from that he's not very destructive. He used to try and chew on all sorts of things when he was a puppy (like any puppy will), but he's pretty much stopped all that now. He still takes off with things he wants to play with, but he doesn't sit down and chew them up. Instead, he just runs away so he can force me to try and catch him.

I don't consider it destructive when a dog chews on a chew toy. They're supposed to chew on them, that's why they are called chew toys.

nah, I am pretty could at destroying my stuff all by myself.

LOL Sounds like fun to dodge 80% of the stuff shot.

Most times I'm usually sitting on one spot with a sniper, I usually get 4 - 7 kills before I killed by another sniper.

What's your longest kill streak? The first day I played BF2142 I got a 46 kill streak as the top gunner for the X-81 Groundhog, and a 30-something kill streak as the gunner of an L5- Reisig (blew up 4 buggies, 1 walker (with AA missiles), 4 Doragon flying thingys, and several people on foot while the driver was killing other things. That was my first streak and I remember because I was amazed). Both times I finally died when my vehicle was simultaniously EMP'd and moarterd by the enemy commander. I'm a good gunner ^_^"

Imagined experiences

1 year 7 months ago

"Thanks for the replies so far. Keep 'em coming!

It just seems to me that there is a trend of larger and larger portions of our time being devoted to things like TV (TV in particular since it requiores the least thought on the viewers part) and less time on other activities that involve the use of more then your forearm muscles.

I suppose the feeling of psudo-fulfillment achieved while we are imagining ourselves as part of what is happening on screen (or solely in our minds) may be part of what keeps us coming back for more. Is it an emotional addiction for some people you think? Getting the thrill of battle, or being part of a tragic romance every weekend.

To have hopes and dreams is one thing, but to replace them entirely with a simulated experience seems tragic to me.

Osaka
Well, the fact is that the world is not perfect; nor it is exciting and (in general) fun or fair. We read books, watch movies and anime and listen to music because these forms of media make us imagine what we cannot do. For example, lets just say that you love reading about snowboarding. Now your argument says that that person should experience snowboarding for himself or herself. But lets just say that she or he lives in Florida and doesn't have enough money or time to go snowboarding because of his or her job. Now, since it's quicker and more cost effective to read a book on snowboarding rather than taking a week's off to go to a resort... s/he will rather read the book.

(back to the snowboarding example) I understand why someone would spend a lot of time with snowboarding games/ books/ movies in that situation, but does that mean that person no longer has any reason to take that expensive trip to the mountains? The ease of doing things digitally really seems to deter us from taking/ saving the time and money to go and physically do things like this. "

I can still remember what she looked like and how her voice sounded, but I don't know how we became friends. One year she apparently moved away during the summer because she just didn't come back to school the next year. She finnaly did come back, but not for about 10 years. By then, I don't think she even remembered or recognised me because I never got any spark of recogntion when I talked to her again.

Oh well, that's just how things go."

which one came first? chicken or the egg?

1 year 7 months ago

"
Hakuma
the chicken came. evolution can prove that.
definition of evolution is :"the process in which inherited traits become more or less prevalent in a population over successive generations. Over time, this process can lead to speciation, the development of new species from existing ones. All extant organisms are related by common descent, having evolved over billions of years of cumulative genetic changes from a single ancestor."
"Evolution consists of two basic types of processes: those that introduce new variation into a population, and those that affect the frequencies of existing genes. Paleontologist Stephen J. Gould once phrased this succinctly as "variation proposes and selection disposes."[9] In natural populations, there is a certain amount of phenotypic variation (e.g., what makes you appear different from your neighbor). This phenotypic variation is the result of variants in gene sequences among the individuals of a population and the interaction of a genotype with the environment-phenotypic plasticity There may be one or more functional variants of a gene or locus, and these variants are called alleles. Most sites in the genome (i.e., complete DNA sequence) of a species are identical in all individuals in the population; sites with more than one allele are called polymorphic or segregating sites."

Try actually arguing your point instead of just copy-and-pasting some loosly relavent information.

I think it was the egg that came first. All genetic mutations occur in the embryonic stage, or the period of the egg. These mutations are what we would call evolution. With each generation, the chicken changes slightly and gets slightly closer to the modern day chicken.

If that so, can you imagine if there only one egg without the other organism, and hatch itself. Looks like it is imposible, if the eggs get a little more cold than the incubating temperature, it won't hatch forever(you won't see your refridgerator full with the chicks when the electricity is down, right?^^).

During the time period when the chicken evolved, the Earth was still warm enough to hatch eggs. Otherwise, there never would have been any dinosaurs, since dinos don't sit on eggs. Also, I didn't say that the egg evolved by itself. A pre-evolved chicken would still be necessary to nurse the chick.

Isn't the dinosaur's eggs don't need to be warmed is because the shell of the eggs is far thicker than the chicken eggs. From where do you know when the period of the chicken evolved, the earth is still warm enough? I think the earth is the same, moreover, the earth looks like cooler than now because the meteor impact. ^^

In order:
Wrong, mutations are also commonly created during the formation of haploid cells (eggs and sperm).

The eggs in your refrigerator don't hatch because they are unfertalized, not because they are cold. (though eggs do need heat to hatch) Anyway, If the first chicken came from an egg, then that chickens mother would have still incubated it because there would have been only a very small difference between her and her chick. Entire populations evolve together, don't think that a dinosaur laid an egg and then suddenly out popped a chicken.

...

In all liklyhood, the chicken probably evolved around the same time as man (if you believe in that sort of thing) "

"Any monkey with a hatchet could defend the titan, so I refuse to play that one. All you have to do is fill the the one and only hallway into the titan with mines and automated guns and BAM, you've successfully defended the titan because the mines won't explode unless they are set off by a person running by (so you can't shoot them to get rid of them), so your only choice is to send wave after wave of cannon fodder so fast that they can't re-stock the mines or to have to take a guy to sit and slowly defuse each mine while he gets shot at. It doesn't work (I knew the kill-bots had a pre-set kill limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my own men at them untill they reached their limit and shut down. Kiff, show them the metal I won!).

Aside from that, great game. I'm always dangerous, but I'm the most lethal when I get hold of the right machines and can get a decent gunner. There isn't anything I can't defeat (from long to medium-close range) in the hover tank. I just dodge 80% of the stuff shot at me and protect myself from the really big hits that I can't dodge, all while consistantly and accurately 9even at long-range) hammering my either puny or sluggish opponents as fast as the cannon will re-load. I'm a little shocked at how many people run right past my tank and assume it's abandoned, so I make sure to wake them up with a shell to the back of the head :P

I'm usually a medic (even though I'm in a machine whenever possible) because It gets me lots of points and the guns set up very well for me.

Fire or Ice?

1 year 7 months ago

"
whisprn2dawind
if there was another choice, like wind, i'll take it. using the power of wind to fly would be awesome. wind can blow away fire... but, i guess, wind is no match for ice...

... wind only feeds a strong fire, but it can wear away mountains and it causes vast destruction when it is a tornado or hurricane/ typhoon.

ZERO-LIMITS
Ice you have a little more freedom with it than fire
Fire has to breath and Ice can melt and become water and take any shape
But then again, ice is well....ice! It's cold, like a cold fish!! It can protect but till when?? It breaks down after sometime. Fire cannot break down, it is sure to destroy the one who brings harm(As i mentioned above).
And it is true, ice is a form of a very important element of life; water. But fire is what brings the water in the first place. No fire, then no water and if no water, then no ice. It's as simple as that.

We can have Water with out fire but more of it would be ICE and as for light... Light Bulbs ^_^

You're wrong there. The light in a light bulb comes from electric resistance on a piece of wire that gets white-hot. A light bulb is basically a sustained ember in a vaccume tube. One of the few heatless forms of light is the glo-stick.

While fire cannot exactly break down, it must constantly consume a fuel source or it will simply cease to burn. Also, water can also be formed with other forms of heat. Try this: put ice under intense pressure (press an ice cube in a cold vice and you'll still get water).

Nanuk
You can kill a man with fire, but you can kill a world with ice.
Remember that.

Trust me, if the sun got 12 million degrees hotter, the planet would be scorched and all surface life would die.

I refuse to comply with the fire or ice options. I'll be like that wierd guy who goes to McDonalds and orders stuff that's not on the menu (just a large strawberry soda and a small bowl of the curry please).

I'm more like wind: passive to others most of the time, but very active in my own right. I'm normally unseen/ unnoticed but I'm capable of an incredibly destructive rampage when pissed off. I'm not very defensive, but I am evasive. It can't block an attack very well, but wind can send an attacker flying in the opposite direction with a powerful gust, or kick up a dust storm to keep someone with a gun blinded while screwing up the trajectory of bullets.

Tornados leave destruction and carnage in their wake, sandstorms can reduce animals to nothing but bone in minutes, typhoons flood entire cities and create havoc for miles, but a nice breeze is relaxing and helps spread good things like flowers, it is the air we breathe, and it creates the beauty of the aurora borilas (solar wind). Wind is what makes it a blizzard, and wind is what feeds/ spreads a forest fire. Wind also carries the rain that extinguishes a fire, and the warm air that melts the snows."

Imagined experiences

"No, you aren't quite catching on to what I'm asking. I'm not implying that imagination is a bad thing, but more and more often we spend so much time simply imagining that we are experiencing things and don't go out and actually do them.

Are we losing something that can only be gained from the real experience? Killing people aside, would it not be better for us if we went out and tried to actually do the things we want to do, rather then watching lots of movies about people doing it and imagining that we are. "

Imagined experiences

1 year 7 months ago

" For eons humans have been living out fantasies in their minds. Once printing was easy enough, books became a way to let someone elses imagination influence your own. When the radio became widespread, we invented yet another method of doing this by hiring voice actors to tell stories. Then, we invented movies where we could actually see the imagined world. Television steps in and allows us to watch movies and programs at any time we wish. Computers come, and with them come videogames. Now we can see the world of imagination and even interact with it!
All of these things can give us the thrill of a set of life experiences, without ever actuallyexperiencing them.

Now, most of our free time is taken up by these forms of entertainment, and more and more people choose these "experiences" over real-life activities. Why go out in the cold to try snowboarding and crash many times, when you can sit in your warm house and control a digital person who can already snowboard?

Granted, most of us have no chance of getting a sponsor to let us go racing Gran Turismo style on the weekends. We can't very well fall in love and have an epic tragedy ensue wenever we please either. So, for many things, these psudo-experiences are our only choice if we wish to experience them at all.

What are your thoughts on our trend toward vicarious experience? I'm particularly interested in speculation as to why we developed the ability to suspend reality and imagine ourselves "in the action." Is this a positive/ negative trend, or is it, like many things, both?"

Organise a counterattack and scout out any remaining humans left in the world, make use of the guns and ammo that I doubt zombies would be able to use, and craft that I doubt zombies can pilot. Set up a homebase. And I dunno, get high on adrenalin, pray like heck that at the end there would still be hope to repopulate the planet oh and can't forget anti-depressants in periods of suicidal tendencies. I've never watched Dawn of the dead, but I've always thought zombies move slowly. Hm maybe if one of the humans is a scentist, pressure him to invent the rehuman-anti-zombie drug eh?

People are dead before they become zombies, so there is no way to return them to humans once they have become a zombie. However it would still be a good idea to find a way to kill whatever is causing the "zombification" so you can use the cure as an antidote to someone who's been bitten, or blead on or whatever other way the zombies are multiplying."

No, wait. Batteltoads Double Dragon. They mixed both games and I've never made it past the third level. (And I beat all the batteltoads games)

Damn right, how could I forget that game? It was even harder, much more harder... I remember I could only get after beating some guy with a machine gun and then you had to go into space with a tiny ship... only to get pwned by the meteors x_X

Also Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox... Murai pwns me in the first level in "Ninja Master". Maybe even Viewtiful Joe in V-Rated but I'm not sure, I got past the Magnificent 5 stage, but Blue is invencible there... oh well, at least he is THE final boss.

The egg dinosours laid eggs long before the first chicken had ever seen the daylight.

...Ok, wow. You don't really understand the question do you?

I like aaronvp's answer. I always looked at as the egg would have come first because the first chiken would be a mutation of something else that layed the egg, but you're absolutly correct aaron. Untill the chicken hatched that egg would not have been considered a chicken egg.

DianaNguyen
any bio student should be able to answer this. It is the egg. What we call the chicken today, isnt necessarily the chicken that had the egg. The egg could've had two different types of parents, therefore causing mutation in the dna. get it?

That's not quite what causes mutation. When different species breed there usually isn't any chance of creating a baby, and even when they are close enough to actually concieve, a cross-breed like that is almost always sterile. "
