This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

FLCL Ultimate Edition any good?

1 year 8 months ago

"The Ultimate Edition has been available here in the States since December 26. Here's an example of a retailer with the product in stock. Here's a Synch-Point blog entry showing the artwork on the ROMs. Synch-Point is the company behind the design & production of the physical merchandise related with the set. Here's another blog entry showing the box art.

Some propaganda:

This Ultimate Edition includes a Collector's Box, all 6 episodes on 3 discs plus a disc full of extras, an FLCL T-Shirt Postcard (Redeemable for one t-shirt, size S-XL), a Sticker Sheet featuring all FLCL Logos (9 stickers), a Postcard Set featuring robots from FLCL (6 postcards), and the FLCL Ultimate Book featuring translation notes, English voice actor interviews and manga scenes.

Hopefully between now and February I'll get something worthwhile put together. Thanks for the comments thus far, and I wish everyone a wonderful 2007!"

Each image is a link to a 1600x1200 piece, thought there's not much more detail to be had.

I did say I wouldn't be working on a wall 'til by February '07, but I had 15 minutes to kill in between lunch and a stack of commissions and was all hopped up on Major Dickason's Blend coffee... Wo! No idea what I wanted from the start. I've a whole bunch of composition ideas sketched out with lots of frilly wonk coming out of the folds of Spike's jacket. That's the idea I had — just some psychedelic line-play with his attire, keeping the colors in line with the three or four available in the scan. The results here are by far the blandest of my initial sketch bombing — for simplicity's sake. The lines ended up straightening out a lot (I eventually just pathed them) and the colors (d)evolved into 60's-era Batman tones with a filter change and a focus shift... I might head off in that direction with some series paraphernalia/art deco kinda theme when I get some more time/inspiration.

Any thoughts/comments/critiques welcome and appreciated. Pretty much anything's possible at the current time — these are just generalized ideas of directions I could head in — I'm looking for guidance. I could throw in other characters from the series, and fontaliciousness isn't out of the question either... And yes, the grain was done on purpose to synch the bg with the scan. I'll eventually either run with the noisy theme or vector it altogether — but again, TIME! Eeg."

Avatar Upload Problem

1 year 8 months ago

"Well, I don't have any caching enabled in Firefox atm (set to 0). I went ahead and cleared all private data (I even deleted the whole PD folder from my computer) but still nothing. I clicked submit once and waited five minutes before browsing to forums and tried a forced reload (F5) but, again, nothing.

*tear*

/edit - Um, okay. I just uploaded fron IE6 and it worked. Must be something with my Firefox settings! I could explore this a bit more if it would be beneficial to anybody — I simply logged in via IE6, uploaded and bam, there it is. I'll see if I can revert to stock settings in FF and get the same result."

Avatar Upload Problem

1 year 8 months ago

"Um... I tried to edit this but apparently clicked delete instead. Oops. Anyhow, I've looked through the various threads on the "avatar problems" front, and couldn't find an answer. I've tried no less than 20 different original avatars, ranging in dimension from 90x90 to 100x100, in size from 5kb to 20, in both jpg and png formats. Whenever I click "submit," the page refreshes — but no loading occurs, and under Your Current Avatar, it still reads: "You don't currently have an avatar set!"

I've no further options to explore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. On a side note, I'd even tried setting my avatar to one that a forum-user had on his/her account (just to test it, mind you) — and even that didn't work — so I'm thinking it's either something wrong with my account or something wonky with my 'net connection."

Has anime affected your inner most desires?

1 year 8 months ago

"Anime sparked my interest in art. Now I've gone much the route of a sculptor, specializing in industry maquettes and concept roughs for game companies and non-mainstream cinematic work, but the fact remains that Cowboy Bebop got me started down that path. As a matter of fact, Faye Valentine was probably my second crush! *blush*

Really though, I think it varies from person to person. Open to a lot of interpretation. For me, watching anime is an experience that changes with each show/movie/series. It all depends on the message being communicated and how well it's done. Some shows put me in an introspective mood and make me realize that my life is indeed pretty boring most of the time and that I could be doing a lot of cool stuff. Alternatively, some anime makes me much more appreciative of the simple things that are dear to me... Like good music, it's all about the mood for me."

FLCL Ultimate Edition any good?

1 year 8 months ago

"I'm curious if anyone's procured FLCL Ultimate Edition — and if so, what they think of it. The series was a favorite of mine for some time, and the extra disk and book (plus the box, because I'm a giddy collect-o-matic nerd) make this collection all the more appealing — I might finally splurge and lay my hands on the OVA."

Salutations!

"Thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah, I'll admit it — I'm a Bebop nerd.. Not that that is saying much. I'm working on revamping my collection and snagging each remix episode. You'd think I'd be able to buy the all at once, but alas, being a poor starving artist/student forces me to save save save and then buy... But I'll get all six — eventually!

Sadly I don't think I'll get any scannable goods from the remix editions — so much artwork has been upped here that there's nary a single piece that hasn't been scanned! I'm also holding out for the FLCL Ultimate Edition DVD Collection. Perhaps there'll be some goodies in there I can send the Anime Paper way."

Salutations!

"This is my first post on the forums here! I'm a freelance concept artist and came across this site at the recommendation of a friend — wonderful community here, and I'd like to start taking part. I'm not sure I'll have anything together by January, but come February I'll start contributing. I'd added a scan of a mag I had lying around when I created this account some months ago, but I hope to begin giving articles of more substance soon — and perhaps a wall or two if I have time!

And if I didn't say it already — Hi!
