This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Computers Gods

3 months 2 weeks ago

"Ah, the path of technology and innovation.
Ever watch Ghost in the Shell?
I believe that most things shown, if not all, will technologically be possible in the future. How distance, I have no clue.
Bionic body parts are already possible with current technology. It's just not as sophisticated as our original counterparts yet. So the possibility is there.

The only part of the future I'm afraid of is the AI age. Will robots one day over rule mankind due to superiority? Or perhaps mankind will develop higher levels of bionic technology before creating a full out AI?

Another mention is that, our Brains do have a physical limit on how long it can last. While our bodies may be able to last forever with bionic parts and replacements, our brains cannot. Unless that is, they create something that is able to transfer all of brain's sophisticated systems into an external system. In which case you technically do have an AI. Albeit not created from bottom up, but it is now a computer with a will of it's own. No longer human, but machine. Hence AI.

The creation of an AI is a real delicate issue. Lets just hope nothing like The Terminator happens to us, and hope that we develop ourselves well enough so that we can defend ourselves against the robot army. =)
Then again, if we're all machine, can't the AI robot army end up controlling our bodies? o.0 And what of the reproductive system the humans were given?
More questions. =)"

Which Career Path would you Follow?

3 months 2 weeks ago

"I would rather be doing something I love to do for a living and make less money than do something I hate doing and making a lot of money.

Although, the difference in the amount of money makes a lot of difference.
Basically, if you're going to make 500k a year doing something you hate, do that for a couple years and retire. (Or quit, as long as you have the money.) Then do that thing you've always wanted to do for the rest of your life. You're rich, you can do whatever you want.

Now, if there isn't too much of a difference, lets say, 50k vs 75k or 100k, and obviously I'd choose the job I enjoy doing.

On a bigger scale, this might be one of those questions, "If you had all the money in the world, what would you do?" of course, if you had all the money in the world, no one would take it. It'd be worthless."

Addictions

3 months 2 weeks ago

"For years, I believe that it was only an addiction if you couldn't stop yourself from doing something you were addicted to.

Recently, however, a friend brought up the fact that even if you are able to control yourself from doing something or not, there is an urge.

I have a gambling addiction under the 2nd rule. I can control it, to an extent. I can go cold turkey. Or rather, that's my best option. I just love the chance game, and whenever I start the gambling, it's hard to stop. especially if you're winning big or losing just as much. You keep thinking "I can win more" or, "I can recover from this" and most of the time, end up losing money in both instances.

So, personally, I believe that if you have an excessively high 'urge' to do something you like, more than you should have, I believe you are addicted. How you deal with that addiction on the other hand, is another story.

Even alcoholics who have been sober for xx amount of years. They can very well control themselves from drinking. But it doesn't change the fact that they enjoy the taste of alcohol and enjoy drinking as a whole. That urge will most likely always be there.

Thinking this way, I don't think there really is a way of getting rid of your addiction, unless extremely measures are implicated. Such as making yourself sick of said addiction to the point of hatred. High levels of psychological alteration may be required. Easier said than done

My two cents."

Time travelling

3 months 2 weeks ago

"Honestly, I believe it's too early to even tell. We don't even know specifically what "Time" really is. I mean sure, you can say "hours" "minutes" etc., but those are basically for our own benefit. Our creations. We did not create "Time" itself. We just came up with a system to keep track of it, and guide us in the amount of progression.

Asking if we think Time-traveling is possible, is ask if you think flying is possible without knowing what Gravity, Thrust, Wind, Resistance, etc. is. And honestly, that was easier to figure out than Time. Seeing as how there are birds who can indeed fly, so we were shown that it was possible. We've studied how that works in order to be able to fly.

For Time-Traveling, we have no guideline what-so-ever. We have no way of knowing what Time is definitively. By modern Science, of course.

So until we know what Time is, time traveling is incomprehensible.
Learn to walk before you can run, and learn to crawl before you can walk.

My two cents."

Manners?

3 months 2 weeks ago

"I think the amount of mannerism you have heavily depends on how you were raised. If you lived all your life showing no manner at all, and having no one to tell you what was well mannered or not, then of course you wouldn't have any.

However, there are people who know exactly what manners are and ignore it completely on purpose.

I think a certain level of mannerism is nice to have.
I also think too much mannerism makes you distance yourself from others too much to the point of insult.

Basic rule of mannerism is, personally, to be 'nice' or 'considerate' of the other person or others around you. Do not do anything that may possible offend others, even in an indirect way. "

math=hard or easy??

3 months 2 weeks ago

"I personally came to the US when I was about 7 years old. I'm fairly confident with mathematics. I believe that being 'good' at math is really more of a personality trait, or an innate talent. Math just clicks for me, while I'm horrible at memorizing. Even in Math, I have trouble memorizing formulas. Applying those formulas, however, is cake for me. Now, I'm not all that speedy with math, but better than your average joe.

Although... there is this one thing that's been bothering me lately.
When American do multiplications, and have the 9x9 table or 12x12 table memorized in their heads, and recall it; they tell themselves, "Nine times Nine equals Twelve." Right?
Correct me if I'm wrong here. I am to believe this is how Americans where taught to memorize the multiplications table.

Now, Asians on the other hand, recall the Multiplication table like this:
"Nine Nine Twelve" (9x9=12)
"Three Three Nine" (3x3=9)
"Seven Six Forty Two" (7x6=42)
etc.

They completely remove the "times" and "equals" part of the recall.

While I'm fluent in English and have lived more than half my life in the US, and even think my thoughts in English. For the multiplications table, I still use Korean.
And what's more, is that in Korean, 0-10 are all 1 syllable. So it's actually faster for myself to recall numbers in Korean.
gohng il ee sam sa oh yook chil pahl ghoo ship (0-10) (pronounced the way it's read)

For numbers higher than 10, there's a type of number calcuation thing that goes on.
This applies for most mainland Asians.
ee bek sam ship oh = 235

ee = 2
bek = 100
sam = 3
ship = 10
oh = 5

Also all 1 syllable for each section. Compare that to "Two Hundred Thirty Five."
But then you go, "Well we say "Two Three Five, or Two Thirty Five" to shorten it.
Well, we can do that too.

Just my two cents.

So I keep getting called a pervert

3 months 2 weeks ago

"Basically, all the other party see is a room/pictures etc., full of women. They don't know where it's from, all they see are a bunch of pictures of women. If said pictures show nudity, suggestive themes, etc., that doesn't help.

I'm going to assume here that you're not really a perverted guy; rather just love all things Anime. However, your public appearance is that of a pervert. Just a guy with a bunch of pictures of girls. People don't know how you react to these items and automatically assume the worst case scenario.

My way of dealing with it is to just never bring up the subject. People ask what my hobbies are all the time, and I just tell them I do stuff with computers etc., which I do. Not as much as with anime, but hey, it's still a hobby; a secondary one.

It's not like I 'hide' the fact that I'm an otaku. It's just that for one, if you mention the word anime, the majority of people have no idea what you're talking about. Most assume either cartoons or japanese cartoons, etc.. Of some of those people, some have seen 'tentacle porn' or parts of it. Of course, now they all assume they're ALL somehow tentacle porn. How this makes sense to me is baffling. If the person asks if I watch Animes, of course I tell them yes, and what types etc., since they know of the subject. I do not deny the fact that I'm an otaku.

I do not publicly announce myself as an otaku, unless necessary or asked. I do understand that you do, and enjoy laughing at the ignorant people that automatically assume it's something completely negative. However, for me, it's more of a hassle. I gave up trying to educate the ignorant. Especially if they react as you say they do.

The only otaku-ish thing I carry around would be the background on my cellphone. Even then rarely do people see it. They ask all the time what it is, and then comes the lack of understanding mentioned above. At home, nearly everything I have is digital so it's all on my computer. I do have a small bookshelf of mangas.
