Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 1 week ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Hey guys!!

I sort of agree with rabbitking. I lik popcorn as much as the next guy, but I hate the kind that's over-buttered.

~Loleta 2 hours 13 minutes ago
I kind of agree with Rabbitking, I don't popcorn. But rabbitking, that sounds kind of harsh.

$rabbitking 2 hours 31 minutes ago
I hate the smell of popcorn because it's associated with fat slobs shoveling handfulls of popcorn into their mouths

~Loleta 2 hours 39 minutes ago
Hello again Mysticmom2. Rabbitking, Libby is an nick name for Loleta (doesn't make sense, I know).

Intel or AMD Processor

"In other words!
I have a 1000Watt Powersupply,
But, my computer only needs 300 watts to run.
That means only 300 watts is drawn to run the computer.

However! AC to DC conversion has a Power cost.
Lets say your PC needs 300 watts of DC power so it asks the Powersupply for that energy. However during the conversion there is loss of power through the conversion through Heat (Like a Light bulb). Most powersupplies are around 75% efficient in that regard.

Personally I have a 85% Efficient power supply, just look at the specifications for what you want (More efficient = more expensive).

75% average efficiency means. 300watts/.75 = 400 Watts is used to run the supply.
300/ .85 = 353 watts are drawn in 85% efficiency quite a bit of difference no?

Btw most power supplies can draw more than what they are rated for, however it produces unclean power. Unclean power means the voltage drops or raises above the Tolerances for the computer. Above or below is bad for the computer in both cases.

Currently I have a 750 supply,
I personally recommend a supply that is rated double of the amount of power that you will use.

"Sounds like you need a reinstall of Windows.
It could be RAM as well,
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
Download and Burn the .iso file and run Memtest86 any version for a few hours.
If it errors then its the RAM.

Though I think the OS needs to be reinstalled."

Router problems

"Very simple,
Download the DD-Wrt save to the desktop for now.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/stable/dd-wrt.v23%20SP2/standard/dd-wrt.v23_generic.bin

Type 192.168.1.1 in the web browser.
default login/pass should be admin .

Now just upload the the firmware by going to administration and firmware,
then firmware update and choose the file you just downloaded.

the new login should be root/password.
if its giving you issues reset the router."

"Unless you want to shovel out cash.
Now this router still crashes time to time.
I had it myself, it has a much shorter wireless range from what I noticed.
My Linksys router has a greater range.

"Well personally I like the WRT54GL since its been pretty good for such a low price.
My reason for the router is that it has 4MB of flash (Perfect) and 16MB of Ram which is decent (Some routers have more, but honestly with DD-WRT you wont need it)
*Hell you can over clock the sucker if you wanted to using DD-WRT. Note consider attaching a Fan if you over clock.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24816
People talking about the router.

Also there is a little side note, If you get a version 1.0 router (Says on the router itself). You have to install the mini version of DD-WRT first, then install the Full version generic version of DD-WRT. Some incompatible on Linksys part.

The only thing you should concern yourself is when you are updating the firmware is to make sure you do it over Ethernet cable. Wireless is not the best way to go about it since if one packet is dropped it you just bricked your router.

One more thing, its been about a month but I remember there being an issue with passwords and username changing when you update the router.
'admin' is the default password and username.
The password and username was supposed to be changed to
root/admin but it didn't.

Then after a bit of thinking I thought to reset the router with the button on the back. Walla! the root/admin worked.

Remember this is the WRT-54GL <- Note the L, it stands for Linux.
I could not find this router at Bestbuy, Office Depot.
So Its best to just order online. zipzoomfly.com has it for a good price.

"Hmm...
Sad to say if you aren't running anything else like bittorrent it might be sign its not up to the job.

I had a friend buy a WRT54GL router and we installed DD-Wrt firmware on it.
His hiccups ended with that router.

Note some routers suck.
Though DD-Wrt tends to fix their inabilities.
Too bad your router isn't supported.

Edit:
I just looked up your router...
Why did you get a Pre-N router?
Do you know that the and specification is not even approved by the IEEE.

Because even though you have a and router who is to say this router will be compatible when the and is done with its drafting? Since a lot can change between releases."

Next-Gen Console Emulators on PCs

"It probably is almost impossible because of coding.
A friend of mine was playing N64 game on his Core2Duo and the gaming performance was horrible.

However A regular gaming PC with one video card will be able to do it.
In fact a PC has more performance potential than any of the consoles.

It all comes down to Coding,
You can have the best computer in the world, but if the coding sucks the game will be slow as hell.

Though to answer your question it would help if you had the best components available."

"Sessh I wish you partitioned the disk...
Hmm...
Why not try Partition magic?

Make a separate partition and move all the files you want to save there.
Then Reformat the primary OS.
Note I have 4 Partitions :)
1. OS 2. Virtual Memory 3. Programs 4. Media

It should work just fine since it doesn't load much if any OS files when making the new partition."

"Look you can use any powersupply you want.
Hell if they sold a 2000Watt powersupply and your computer only draws 300 watts it'll draw only 300 watts.

What you want is efficiency, 80% efficiency and up are great.
I suggest you get around 650watt powersupply.
Personally I went for 750Watts so I never will be hovering near the max of my supply.

Read up on this site. www.jonnyguru.com

"Lol that can't be a virus
Viruses tend to be simple in nature.
They do only a couple of things at a time.
Frankly it sounds like a Corrupt OS that could have been caused by a virus.
I had a few OS installs go wacky on me and the only thing to fix it is formating and reinstalling."

"Actually... The Phenom at this point and time sucks big time.
It beats the older generation by about 5%-10%.
The older 65Nm core 2 duo still kicks its rear.

Plus they keep having problems running faster than 2.5GHz.
AMD keeps scaling back how fast their chips are going to be run at. First couple of chips are running at 2.0-2.3 stock GHz. They said they'll put out a few chips at 2.6 Ghz next year about a month ago, now they are saying they'll run at 2.5GHz.

This might change when phenom gets a new revision sometime next year (Q2-Q3 I believe) that will hopefully take care of performance and clock issues.
Its still up in the air how things are going to turn out."

"See for nvidia this is how it goes as far as models for now.
First number is Family of GPU
8

Second Number is performance level like high end, midrange, low range, very lowrange.
8

0

0

GT is usually means its decent, GTS is the next step up (Right now the current GTS is not as good as the GT, though the new version based on the G92 core will be better with more shader units)

GTX = is probably the best.

Though this is a very basic outline so read reviews comparing several cards at once.
That way you get an idea on the performance level."

"Timings are not so important, they should only be changed when you found a Clock rate you like. Keeping 1:1 ratio between CPU FSB to RAM FSB is very beneficial.
Since they are talking to each other through the Northbridge at the same time.

So its good to have ram that can Talk to the CPU 1:1 as you scale up the FSB.

Cruical Bal 1066FSB is excellent Ram and can be found at most outlets for about 100 dollars for 2 gigs (2 Ramsticks of 1 GB each) of it.

"DVD read speed is not a big deal Orchid.
All these drives now a days are plenty fast.
The only application when you would be reading that much is a disk to disk copy.
Even then there are buffers to keep the writing fed.

All drives both writers and readers have the same spec of 16X the differences between them are small. Since they are the slowest part of the computer most/all applications don't depend on fast read.

PC Parts buying problem

"Umm... I did answer it Chocolate.
And I suggested at least a 965 motherboard.

Also an other thing is that www.newegg.com tends to overprice products so be careful and cross shop. I search up parts on newegg (Love that interface) Then I usually shop at http://www.mwave.com/mwave/index.hmx?

Note for those overpriced items you are basically paying for Newegg's customer service. Which is pretty good. Though I never RMA something at mwave its a pretty good shop price wise."

"Change out those Ram sticks for Crucial (AKA Micron) Ballistix 2GB packs.
Micron makes these ram sticks (Note almost all manufactors use Micron D9 Memory for DDR2)! They overclock better than most other companies.
Note if you plan on overclocking get 1066 Memory.

That power supply is very good, though it might be underpowered for you.
I always try to match my system with a power supply that has at least 25% more capacity. http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp Good site to find out your power requirements.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/
This site has many power supply reviews give them a read before buying.

If you can hold off a bit there are new video cards coming out in a matter of a week! Just hold off until they are out. 8800GTS G92 (Smaller Process with more Shader units and higher clock compared to the G80)

"Look if give us a budget to work with.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=854&model2=722&chart=287

Note this graph is a basic overview of performance differences. This does not have a through testing nor does it even state what kind of Processor they tie them together with. So don't take this to heart.

Since Fear and doom 3 use the same engine they should be more or less the same performance.

The 8600GTS is a POS card in my opinion.
If you want to get decent frame rates look for a better card.

P.S. Give us a max budget to work with.
If you don't you are going to be unhappy with your decision."

"Newegg has the processor for 75 bucks but also has free shipping.
Now that motherboard is very old and does not support your processor.
I think the oldest chipset that supports core2duos is the 945 chipset and this is 915.
It has DDR and not DDR2 which now a days is cheaper.

good Motherboard here check it out. I thought this was a good compromise in quality verse price ratio.
