After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Looks or personality?
5 months 1 week ago
"Looks OR personality? I don't think it's that simple.Ultimately, I think the determining factor between whether you want a romantic or platonic relationship with a person is whether or not you have any desire to kiss him/her. A romantic relationship isn't very satisfying if you don't have any feelings for the other person. If someone's really nice and you enjoy their company but you aren't attracted physically, there's nothing wrong with being friends. You never know what'll happen!
My attraction to my first boyfriend was purely hormonal. We didn't have much in common, but I fell for him-- HARD, and I dove into the relationship before I'd gotten to know him well. We broke up before long, and we were never close friends.
However, I met another guy around the same time who I didn't have any feelings for at first, but as I got to know him I found out what a fascinating person he was and I developed a huge crush!

Romeo x Juliet Dub?
5 months 1 week ago
"Thread for discussing thoughts on the dub. It's released June 23rd!In the mean time, did anyone catch the premiere screening at Anime Boston? Guys. GUYS. THE EPISODE TITLES ARE IN IAMBIC PENTAMETER. This made the Shakespeare geek in me very happy.
The script is sort of a combination of Shakespeare-English and modern English. The nobles tend to speak in a more archaic manner, while the commoners' manner of speaking is down-to-earth. It sort of takes some getting used to, but I think it works. They use pieces actual dialogue from the play, which is cool.
I was impressed! I'm not familiar with the other work of most of the cast, but I plan on buying this once it comes out.
The cast:
Brina Palencia as Juliet
Chris Burnett as Romeo
Carrie Savage as Hermione
Christopher Bevins as Mercutio
Colleen Clinkenbeard as Cordelia
Dana Schultes as Portia
Eric Vale as Francisco
J. Michael Tatum as William
Larissa Wolcott as Amelia
Maxey Whitehead as Antonio
Mike McFarland as Tybalt
R Bruce Elliott as Conrad
Robert McCollum as Curio
Sean Hennigan as Lord Montague
Sean Michael Teague as Benvolio

Is it a must for a woman to get married?
5 months 1 week ago
"Yeah, I think there's more of a societal expectation for women to marry than men, though even guys get the "So why aren't you married yet?" after a certain age.I don't think anybody has an obligation to get married if they'd be happier alone. It's a personal decision; no one has the right to pressure another person into marriage."

Higurashi Live Action Movie
1 year 3 months ago
"I'm kind of surprised they didn't keep the original hair/costume colors, that makes it a bit harder to tell who's who ^^; I guess that would've made it more cartoony, but I thought the trailer makes it look like some random Japanese horror flick than specifically Higurashi.I wonder if they filmed it in the real village that Hinamizawa is set in? Certainly bears a striking resemblance."

Locked topics in Past Anime Series?
1 year 3 months ago
"I noticed quite a few topics in Past Anime Series are locked, and for no apparent reason other than the last post is a few weeks old. I can only assume there's some kind of age-sensitive auto-lock feature? It seems odd that this would occur so soon, the list of locked threads begins on the first page.Er, so what do we do if we want to discuss titles that may not be as current? Should we request unlocks, or start new threads? (Incidentally, the anime I wanted to post about was Fullmetal Alchemist).
Thanks!"

Ouran Host Club!

"The anime & manga are both awesome, I have a hard time choosing between them x) Haruhi's so much fun to cosplay! One of my favorite aspects of Ouran is all the costumes, and you do get a bit more of that in the manga, and they're usually more elaborate."View
Leading characters in recent anime series
2 years 3 months ago
"To add to this thought-- the trend landlala pointed out is worth noting, but I think it might have more to do with American exposure to anime. Being "cartoons," marketers previously took titles like Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion, etc.; series aimed at children, the traditional audience for animation in America. However, since a lot of fans today have grown up on anime and the market's epanded considerably, marketers have realized the potential of targeting an older crowd, and have consequently brought more mature series to the U.S., which is why we're noticing the more mature themes in anime most of us didn't previously get much exposure to.
There's probably a societal element, too. Japan's had to deal with some tough cultural issues of its own. I heard a report on NPR about how young women in particular are leaving Japan since they feel oppressed by society and have a difficult time finding husbands. This probably has something to do with the "Lolita complex," an increase in sexual crimes in which the victims are very young girls. I saw a book in the library recently, The Chrysanthemum and Thorn (something like that), which, I believe, talks about the hardships of Japanese culture, and it's not exactly a brand-new book. Japan's had societal issues for a long time, and that's been and is reflected in its popular entertainment."

Is it weird for a 27 year man buying anime figures especially girly ones
2 years 3 months ago
"Just buying figurines is no big deal. *shrug* A friend of the family's (who is over 50) is a huge Oz fan and has a small sitting room decorated Oz-style with books, toys, everything. It's even painted green XD He's also a professional artist, and has illustrated a few Oz reincarnations. His hobby is collecting Oz stuff, and he frequents used book stores to add to his collection. (I think his oldest book is a second-edition from 1910.) He and his wife (also an artist) have done really well for themselves and have healthy social lives. His hobby meshes well with his work, which is really cool if you ask me. I don't consider it weird at all.As with any hobby, moderation is key. Just liking anime isn't weird, but being a total live-in-the-basement-watching-anime-all-day-and-spending-every-paycheck-on-toys otaku is definitely weird. As long as you have a balanced life, I see no reason to be ashamed of being an anime fan. :)"

The saddest Anime !? Can something like that change your life
2 years 3 months ago
"I haven't really seen many truly "sad" anime... some people I know think Fullmetal Alchemist is tear-jerking and say they can't watch last episodes without sobbing. I'm kind of stoic, I guess. But it can get awkward, when I watch a sad movie and everyone around me will be bawling their eyes out and I'm just like... yeah... here, have another tissue... >.>I think I have yet to see an anime that had a lasting effect on me, sad or otherwise. But I wouldn't be surprised if I did come across one someday. Some of the titles you guys have mentioned sound interesting, maybe I'll check them out sometime. :)"

Ever think you could make it as a voice actor?
2 years 3 months ago
"Acting in the shower? XD Not quite, but I've sung anime theme songs to myself in the shower. I think being an anime VA would be an awesome career, but I'd rather do art. X3 I've been in theatre for years and love it to pieces, and participate in fandubs as a hobby. That's probably the closest I'll ever get to an acting career, which is fine with me. I enjoy amateur acting very much.For the most part, I like my voice; people tell me it's "cute." I wish I had a broader range, though; I probably just need some voice training to bring it out. It's not too hard to find female actors with "cute" voices, and I'm just not sure if I stand out enough to make it as a professional... I'm can act, too, but that's not all that rare among actors, y'know? ^^;;
I love that Japanese VAs are often singers and put out albums of songs about their characters. I've been in choir groups for going on 8 years, and I think it'd be awesome to portray a character in an anime and then sing about them. X3"

Samurai vs Ninja
2 years 11 months ago
"Ooooh! I JUST (like last weekend) attended a lecture entitled "How to Become a Samura/Ninja in 2 Hours." Very cool. I learned a TON, including a slew Japanese words I didn't know. (I'll PM the lecture notes to anyone who'd like to see them :3) Where to begin...?Samurai are, well, stuffy. Every single thing they do is steeped in honor and propriety; that's a pretty oppressive way to live. They tend to function more like an army, whereas ninja work in very small groups or individually (on missions, usually the latter). Ninja work undercover (DUH) and learn how to disgusie themselves (the komuso or travelling monk was a popular one, as was the sarugaku, a "monkey" or court fool-type of performer), and study medecine and poison. Both lifestyles are tiring and intense, and being in peak physical condition is important, since they're required to risk their lives on a regular basis.
By the way, you know those signs made with interlocked/crossed fingers in Naruto used for jitsu? Those are based on the actual "nine signs of concentration," which I learned how to do (though I get 'em mixed up... ^^;;).
All things considered... Ninja are cooler. ^^"

Anime...Addiction &or Obsession
2 years 11 months ago
"While I don't let anime run my life, I gotta say even if it's not my number one hobby, it's way up there. I <== poor high school student, spend most of my allowance on anime/manga and related things, and it was... saddening... to see the number of anime-related things on my Christmas list O_O. I'm an artist and one of my biggest goals right now is to get into a 5-week intensive study summer course in Japanese so I can eventually study art in Japan. There aren't that many schools in America that offer degrees in sequential art (5 to be exact), and, well-- how AWESOME would it be if I got to live my dream? :3"View
FMA Anyone ?
3 years 1 month ago
"Absolutely! They're so perfect for each other, Hawkeye babysits Roy and keeps him from slacking off. XD And Riza's seriousness complements Roy's laid-back attitude. In fact, "Royai" is the term accepted by most FMA fans for Roy x Riza, it's a really popular pairing. ^^
By the way-- what do you guys think about the FMA doujinshi out there?
FMA is my all-time favorite manga and anime, and I love seeing other artists' work; a lot of the doujin out there are really good and the art is fantastic, but I think there are WAY too many yaoi/M-rated doujin. I'm just not interested in that stuff, but sometimes it's hard to tell what you're getting before you read something. I've found sometimes they aren't labeled for content, or worse several doujin come in a "batch" and you get some ugly stuff in addition to what you actually want to see.
I found one site (http://catystorm.livejournal.com/689431.html) with a lot of doujin downloads to choose from, and the ones with inappropriate material have warning labels. PLEASE read them first. ^^;;"

What manga do you think is the most well-drawn?
3 years 1 month ago
"...Actually, I'm fairly new to manga, and I also don't have a lot of extra cash to throw around, so I'm not familiar with a wide range of work ^^;;My favorite series right now is FMA; I like how Hiromu Arakawa draws the characters with semi-realistic body proportions; i.e., nobody has legs up to their neck, but that's just me; I tend not to make my characters overly stylized, either. The relatively simplistic charcter designs are actually really appealing, but the range of expressions she comes up with for them are ingenious... the characters never have the same face. XD An advantage to the simpler art is that it comes across as clean and the page seldom looks cluttered. To contrast the characters, the backgrounds are extraordinarily detailed, which I love. She also does a great job with screen tone."

Anime And You...

"Uh... I'm not sure if it was anything specific, but I think the first anime I ever got into was Pokemon when I was 10 or 11. I didn't really care about the cards, I just liked the story. ^^ It was also around that time that my drawing became influenced by anime; I have a folder of Pokemon drawings from way back then. XD I was obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh when I was 12, and I started casually watching some other anime on Saturday morning, and the rest is history ~^"View
Why are animes SO...
3 years 1 month ago
"Actually, I'm fairly new to anime, and FMA is the first series I'm actually watching through to the end; and it is nearing its end-- for me, anyway. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the series (ep. 36... it's tragically short... like a certain state alchemist...) I'm buying the DVDs at a painfully slow rate: one every 2 months or so. It does get a little hard to follow since I get to see new episodes so infrequently. But the slow pace is by choice, partly (I am broke ^^;;), but I also wanna make it last. It's a rich, powerful series and there's no reason to hurry, even though I'm DYING to get to the end and see the movie! XDDDDDI think of the end of a great anime like eating a really good cake: you can savor it and eat it really slowly, one slice at a time, or gobble it up, but either way it'll be gone eventually; but however you eat it, you're left with a great taste in your mouth when it's done :) (...that was a weird analogy, it's Friday, forgive me XD)"

do you think america can make better anime than japan?
3 years 1 month ago
"*ponders* I think I get what you're saying. I definitely would enjoy anime more if it was up to par animation quality-wise with the US, because lots of anime, even really good series, have plenty of crappy moments, like you said, and that bugs me every time I watch it. @~1@ However, I love the medium so I gladly put up with faults. :) Anime produced in America just has a different flavor from Japanese anime. It's not necessarily not as good, just... different. I personally prefer anime made in Japan because of its distinctive style that American anime lacks. Also, American anime is usually aimed at kids almost exclusively (Teen Titans, Avatar, Ben 10-- wow, it's sad I know all these XD), and lacks some of the deeper themes commonly found in the "real thing.""

Hate Cigarettes
3 years 1 month ago
"W00t Canada! XD I hope the U.S. does that soon, too. I mean, have you ever walked into a crowded restaurant and wanted to be seated in the non-smoking section, and saw the smoking section was practically empty? And at a college nearby there are gazebos made specifically for smokers to hang out in. Honestly T.TI totally agree. My grandma's smoked for 50 years and I HATE it. She has to leave the room for a cigarette every few hours and her house is just putrid. I dread having to spend time there, which sucks since she's a pretty cool grandmother...
And the mother of a friend of mine smokes; when I was 12 or so, I politely asked her if she would be kind enough not to smoke at the table during dinner, and she almost kicked me out of the house. Honestly... to heck with smoking and all the people who profit from marketing it. It's just disgusting.
By the way, I once saw a cool anti-smoking sign: "If you are smoking on the premises, we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action." :)"

Do your parents watch anime?
3 years 1 month ago
"Let's see... my dad thinks anime is mostly a kids'/young adults thing, but my mom wanders in almost every time I watch FMA XD She's kind of following the storyline, and asks me to fill her in when she misses something. She also liked Cardcaptors when it was on. Mostly she watches anime to spend time with us, her kids, but I'm glad I have a family that likes/tolerates anime, unlike some of my friends' parents :P"

"I can relate to having ancient art programs, the best I've got right now is PSP 32-Bit, it's like 10-15 years old ^^;; Anyway, I have a few suggestions for the first one. The bright red text is kinda in-your-face, you might wanna consider changing the color to make it more subtle, and the wall might look more balanced if you put the sig on the bottom right corner instead of the left. There's a lot of space on the left half of the wall, it'd look less bland if you were to, for example, add a subtle, faded picture of the character, or maybe some lineart. And, perhaps the sandy effect itself would look cooler if you varied the hue a little more in some places? Anyway, that's my advice. Hope it helped! ^^"View
Riza Collage Wallpaper
3 years 2 months ago
"As I said, this is my first attempt at making a wall; critique is greatly appreciated, but please don't flame too hard... ^^;;I copied and pasted panels from the manga (hence "collage") and used the colorize tool to give it a yellowish hue. I was going to put a picture of Riza in full color in the middle, but I thought the collage it might be good enough to stand on its own... I also had the idea, after it I finished it, to use more, smaller panels to make it even busier. What do you think?
Riza Collage Wall
If this is received well I'd like to a similar thing do some of the other charcters, in different colors-- sort of a series of FMA collage walls. :)
I'm well aware that some parts are a little rough, but I don't know how to fix it. I'm using PSP 32-bit, which is a pain in the butt. It's more than 10 years old and has some serious... deficits in the features department. Example: The soften tool doesn't work, when I tried it I got the following error message: "This tool can only be used on 24 bit color or 8 bit greyscale images." T.T
Anyway... Thanks for taking the time to critique my first wall! :)"
