After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Re-watching anime after 3-5 years.

1 year 7 months ago

"I dunno. The first anime I ever watched was Tekkaman Blade. And back when I was a kid I loved that anime. But I recently got my hands on it again and re-watched it and I thought it was terrible. Don't make an assumption that nostalgia will make an anime good. "

I really don't see how people find the SSB series any fun? I've played all of them and they all feel the same to me. It might work with the younger audience or people who like simpler party fighters, but for me Tekken, Soul Calibur, King of Fighters, Street Fighter, and Guity Gears, to name a few, are better fighters.

The only problem with the games you just mentioned is that any shmuck gamer can button mash his way to victory. Those games have way too many difficult combos to master. However, SSB actually requires a lot of skill and patience to play against other players successfully. No button masher can get lucky while playing SSB because the moveset for each character is very small and many moves only work in certain situations.

Not only that, but SSB finally answers the great childhood question that all of the older gamers wanted anwered: "if Mario and Luigi got into a fight, who would win?" It is this meshing of so many different genres into an awesome fighting game that draws in so many different people to play SSB. I like a lot of games that are featured in SSB, but there are a few that I have no intention playing. There are even some games that I was inspired to play because I like some of the characters in SSB.

In fact, the Jump All-Stars game for DS is kind of a spin-off of SSB if you ask me. At least it was inspired by this concept. I wouldn't put it past SquareEnix to copy the concept and make a game like Final Fantasy Bros. where all of their most famous Final Fantasy characters fight against each other. That way we can answer the question: "If Cloud and Squall got into a fight, who would win?""

"I think it would be interesting if the third season has some more information about the epilogue we saw a snippet of after kai.

But I totally agree that there is still plenty of Higurashi left to do another worthwhile season. From my research that game is amazingly complex with all of those side universes.

I'm looking forward to it. "

It's a fun anime. Nothing really serious or gripping but I've found that slice of life anime like this are great for taking your mind off RL and they're perfect for when you're taking a break because they don't leave you hanging. It's not as good as Azumanga Daioh but it'll do.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there. The last slice of life anime that I really liked was Strawberry Marshmallow. Bamboo Blade is very mild and presents some fun conflicts that make you feel for the characters, but I'm in college now. So looking back at high-school I can see the comparisons in the relationships that are presented. It's one of those anime that I think a lot of people can relate to, which is going to make it successful.

But yes, Azumanga Daioh is the epitome of the slice of life anime genre and will probably never be surpassed. "

Thoughts on Mnemosyne

1 year 7 months ago

"Noto Mamiko has been one of my favorite voice actresses since I first watched Negima. That soft, yet forcefully strong voice she has is capable of creating some really interesting feelings for characters. It can be shy, stand-offish, or in the case with Rin, very dark. And then there's Kugamiya Rie, another one of my favorite voice actresses. Mimi is Rin's perfect cheery sidekick.

It's funny because Noto Mamiko was also the voice actress for Yuka in Elfen Lied, another violent anime with a lot of nudity. However, I feel that Mamiko didn't have the lead role that was taken by Lucy/Nyu. Mnemosyne is going to be her time to shine. I look forward to the subsequent episodes. "

Last Chapters of Shakugan No Shana 2

"I still haven't seen the last ep, but I think it's going to be interesting. The novels are still ongoing, so there is going to have to be some kind of wrap up here.

But I've been discussing Shana II with my friends that liked season 1 and they still don't even like the second half of Shana II now that it is more action-packed. For some reason, Shana just changed too much between season 1 and 2. It's easy to see that Yuji and Shana belong together, but I think they should have become a serious couple back during the school festival. It was a very natural time for Shana to finally get the nerve to confess. The way she keeps dodging the issue and compromising with Kazumi is just too annoying for me. Shana is always going to have a special place in my heart, but season 2 really ruined the series for me.

I really hope the final ep is going to be EPIC. "

End of Clannad

1 year 7 months ago

"Both the TV series and the movie really touched me. Visual Arts/Key is starting to master their formula for a great drama. It's that balance of humor and heart-tugging moments that really get to me.

But one of the things I'm constantly forgetting is how childish Nagisa acts. For being several years older than Tomoya, she has a funny charm that keeps her young and energetic. That's really what I like about her character. Those funny little realistic quirks that you find in unique people.

I dunno. Almost none of my friends like the kind of anime that I like. Sometimes it's very refreshing to discuss anime like this without the fear that my buddies are going to just ignore me or tell me that all I watch is boring garbage.

Does anyone else have problems like that when they tell their friends that Air/Kanon/Clannad are really good shows?"

"Manga Chapter 316

SPOILER (click to view)

I think Bleach could have and should have been wrapped up about 50 chapters ago. I'm totally sick of all this unjustified filler. The only anime in my recent memory that actually did a good job dealing with filler was Tsubasa which just stopped the anime for six months and then did the second season. For me, Bleach's plot is just too deep to drag it out this long. Naruto and DBZ have a much shallower plots which can justify lousy filler and a long running. Sorry guys, but in my eyes Bleach has failed me. "

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

1 year 7 months ago

"I totally understand. I always had a desire to unlock the character's fourth costumes, but that requires completing 90% of the achievements and I'm only at about 45%. I don't even think that's enough to unlock the sound test. I'll probably get back into this game someday because I still haven't even beaten Lenneth and I really like Valkyrie Profile.

One thing I can say honestly, and I'll probably take a lot of flak for it, is that Final Fantasy is getting really bad lately. Ever since the merger of Square and Enix, there has been a steady down spiral of quality in Final Fantasy, while the old "Enix titles" have really kept a lot of their quality. I'm talking Romancing Saga, Radiata Stories and Valkyrie Profile 2.

I dunno. Star Ocean 3 is still one of my favorite games and I give Enix credit for finally getting me to buy a Playstation 2. "

[Anime Discussion] Gurren Lagann

"Mecha anime are among my least favorite genres because they usually don't have very good plots or they are too kiddie. However, Gurren-Lagann does a great job of staying lighthearted and providing an awesome plot. This anime is definitely one of Gainax's best, especially when it compares to some of their other recent works. "

The whole love triangle thing has the same feel as filler episodes... it will never end, they will keep getting interrupted or hesitating about their true feelings for a lamp. damn finally they are getting somewhere in episode 16...

I totally agree. It was all of that messing around with Konoe that really bothered me and pained me to watch Shana II. But I think it's finally going to start getting interesting once more. I say just spit out the secrets and lets get the conflict finished and put Yuji and Shana together. "

What I think

I know its got a Kanon and Air feel to it but, its kinda weird. I dunno must be just me.

I totally agree with that statement. Of course that's a given because Visual Art's/Key likes reusing their character archetypes. It was a lot easier to see the links between the characters in the transition from Air to Kanon (some of them even looked exactly the same, ie: Misuzu and Makoto). However, Clannad has a much different feel to it because you can't parallel most of the characters to the previous Visual Art's works. Overall, I think that created a great effect because everything seems really fresh.

However, the main point I want to get to is that Clannad is easily the best of the three Visual Art releases. It's not a crying fest like Air and Kanon were. It is also much easier to detect who the main girl is than it was in Kanon (something I personally prefer). So just go with the old standbys that made Air and Kanon great (good plot, a little goofy humor and spectacular music) and you have an awesome show that's easily in the top 20 for all time best anime (at least I think it should be)."

Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3 ?

2 years 2 months ago

"Oh, this is no contest. Wii is easily the best system. Best controls, best games and there's no way you can't be psyched by the virtual console. It's cheaper, too!

PS3 might have blu-ray, but it's all graphics and no improvements over PS2 other than those two details.

Xbox 360 will finally have a good game when Halo 3 comes out, but other than that it is an expensive piece of Microsoft junk. It isn't backwards compatible with all of it's first generation games and what few titles that are actually good don't make it worth the money. "

about clare's awakened power

2 years 2 months ago

"Having not read the manga (because I don't want to be spoiled for episode 26) I can't assess just what is going on with Clare's awakening with any amount of intelligence. However, I've given it a lot of thought based on what I've seen in the anime. I have reached the conclusion that because Clare is only 1/4 Yoma, it is impossible for her to awaken.
The 3/4 human side of her is capable of overwhelming the disproportionately smaller yoma side. In fact, it is probably the fact that she is 1/4 yoma that she is capable of controlling her partially awakened form. Other Claymores that have gone over their limits and have any portion of their bodies become awakened thus far have simply gone all of the way and that was it (with the exception of Jean, who had some help). However, Clare can form half-awakened sections of her body and then fight in that manner for extended periods of time. "

Shakugan no Shana...2!

2 years 6 months ago

"They really shouldn't have announced that Shana II was coming out on April 1st. I didn't really believe it for a week because I've been disappointed by April's Fools jokes too many times in the past.

I'm actually a little disappointed that the movie won't be covering new content, but is instead a rehash of the first seven or so episodes. I sure hope there's a lot of extra scenes that we missed during the TV series. They should have done something like the Kino movie were we see Kino several years into the future. There's a lot of debate between me and my friends as to whether or not Shana and Yuji will grow older or remain young forever because of their respective supernatural qualities.

Either way, though, it's going to be good because it's Shana, which is all-around awesome, regardless of context. ^_^"

Why do people just have to tell evryone that they hate dubs?

2 years 6 months ago

"There are a lot of the reasons I watch subtitled anime.

The first reason is that listening to the voices and acting in the format that the original director intended is more in-tune with the true anime spirit. Anime is Japanese, and should be watched in Japanese.

The second reason I watch subs is because I'm trying very hard to learn Japanese. I'm at a college that just started to offer Mandrin Chinese and stopped offering Japanese two years before I became a freshman. I don't have the time to take classes on the side or during the summer, so listening to anime is one of the only ways that I can get any practice at listening to the Japanese language. Sometimes I even turn off the subtitles and watch the anime in raw Japanese just to test my understanding. Albeit I know there are a lot of rude remarks, but that's part of the challenge of learning a language through TV. I mean, if my great-grandmother from Germany learned English by watching TV, why can't I learn Japanese by watching anime?

Another reason is that 99% of the time, the voice actors hired by American anime companies are just bad actors. They underact or overact, never reaching the correct "feel" for the character they are trying to portray.

Don't get me wrong, though. There are some anime that I actually prefer to watch dubbed. Ghost in the Shell is one of the ones that I can't watch subtitled because of all of the complicated words that flash by so fast. I've never liked the Japanese voice actors that played Fay and Edward from Cowboy Bebop, therefore I watch that series and movie dubbed. Then there are the Miyazaki and Shinkai movies that I can flipflop back and forth between dubs and subs because both languages are done so well.

And then there is Kenshin. I don't care for watching that anime in either language because I think that both versions have bad voice actors.

shadowblitz
I find that people who 'hate dubs' or 'hate subs' are rather close-minded.

I agree with Shadowblitz that you have to keep an open mind on this subject. However, I'm also more than willing to make the generalization that most dubs are bad and most subs are good."

Kakashi's mask

2 years 6 months ago

"I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't hiding anything other than his face. You know how ninjas are all about concealing their true identities. Like that one episode where team Kakashi was trying to figure out what was under his mask and the people at the ramen shop were smitten with what they saw. It's probably likely that Kakashi has a memorably handsome face that would give away his identity to people he's trying to hide from. "

Is Life Creuler than Death??

2 years 6 months ago

"
shioriangel

i always wanted to know what other people thought about life.
in my opinion life is cueler than death. life always bites you in the butt. everything that we do can either have a bad consequence or the outcome of something wonderful. most of the time our outcomes are negative. this makes most of our self-esteem drop and then we always have to start over again. after awhile it get's depressing. like how much bad s*** can we take?

death would solve all our problems. like we won't have to worry about anything. it would be great.

although i say this, i personally don't want my life taken away from me. ya all this crap is happening to me but i'll put up with it.

anywho, i would like to know your opinion on life. and if you think life is crueler than death

Of course life is crueler than death. There's no arguing about it. Once you're dead you don't feel anything anymore. But that's not the point of life. You make the best of life and that's going to include a little suffering here and there. But if I have the choice I'd rather live than die and I'm sure most people would agree with me."

The saddest Anime !? Can something like that change your life

2 years 9 months ago

"There are actually a lot of anime that I've watched which encouraged me to think differently about how I act.

1. Shana made me realize that you need to have courage to talk to the people you have a crush on.
2. NHK made me realize that I was watching too much hentai.
3. Elfen Lied made me realize that evil is just a state of mind and not some kind of universal constant.
4. Gunslinger Girl made me realize the preciousness of life.
5. AIR gave me some thoughts about the reasons why some people isolate themselves.
6. Hoshi no Koe made me think about the distant that separates my parents and myself and how I need to keep in touch with them.
7. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou told me to keep things simple (instead of getting complicated).
8. R.O.D. taught me the importance of comradeship.
9. Kashimashi allowed me to see that love is genderless.
10. Furi Kuri taught me that twenty different people can look at something and see twenty-one different things. "
