After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

"I hate code geas because..." before I wrote this every post has been "love it", "the best show ever" and so on. There can be hundreds of posts like that but no one ever says "I didn't find it good" can actually only people which like the show gather and reply to the topic?
There are plenty of reasons for this. People who hate something don't spend all their time discussing it, and people who found it mediocre or average couldn't care less either. Most discussions for a particular show, book, comic, whatever will be monopolized by fans since they're the ones who want to discuss it. That's just common sense.

Secondly, when you use words like "hate," people can get offended at that sort of strong language. There aren't many shows that I can honestly say I "hate," so I don't normally use such words anyway. Of course, if you word the rest of your opinion so that you state genuine reasons of why you dislike something, there's not much one can say against you.

However, it can get rather jarring to see people constantly saying stuff like "The characters suck, the story is the boring, the writing is poor, the art looks terrible, etc." without saying much else. Usually, when you write out your opinion on something you dislike, you can find good things about too, and find that maybe you don't hate it so much. You don't need to write a book about it, just state your opinion clearly and politely.

Also, speaking personally, it annoys me when people who hate a show watch it every week. You can discern whether you like most shows after a few episodes (unless it's something really long like Monster or LoGH), so I don't get people who watch stuff they hate. If you truly see nothing good about something after five episodes, it probably isn't for you, and you should be watching something you _do_ enjoy. (I speak broadly in this opinion.)

People who get offended even at well written critiques are usually young people with little patience. Even though most ages say 17+, I would bet that does not hold true for many people around here."

"I've been meaning to give the manga a look, but I haven't done so yet... Is it any good? Only the first two episodes of the anime are out so far, but it seems like it's been a bit rushed so far. I guess that's to be expected since the VN is so long. The manga would probably be better, but it wouldn't have all the awesome music of the anime. (o_o) emoticon"

who's the next Batman Villian?

"Probably Catwoman since
SPOILER (click to view)

I think there will be a third film. Nolan likes being in creative control, but he also likes making money. Batman is too successful for him to just walk away, and I doubt Warner would just let him do so. If he's really gung-ho about there not being a Robin, I think the producers and executive heads will give in.

In fact, if the third one does better than the second, I'm sure there will be a fourth. Milk it 'til it's dry!

Edit: Oh, and actually, I don't want it to be Catwoman. :D;; Just saying there's a good chance it will be. Catwoman would be too difficult a character to write, so I'd rather see it not happen. Of course, a good adaption would be a sight for sore eyes, but I won't get my hopes up."

"Is anybody watching Umineko this season? Personally, I'm a big fan of the VN, so I'm definitely watching. I like it so far, and the music is great. I didn't like them at first, but now Kikuchi's character designs are growing on me. I think it's going to be a good adaption. :)

What's your take on killing animals?

4 months 2 weeks ago

"On one hand, I vehemently disapprove of animal cruelty, and it makes me sick to see people abusing their cats, dogs, etc. On the other, I eat chicken and wear leather. I don't need to eat chicken; I can take vitamin supplements that will give me the same nutrition found in meat. I don't need to wear leather; I can wear faux-leather that looks the same.

Even though I don't personally hurt animals, I'm supporting those who do. I've heard a lot of the animals in slaughterhouses (pleasant word, right?) are gravely mistreated before their deaths, but I don't know how true all those claims are (most of which I've heard from my vegan friends who find even wearing feathers to be offensive).

I dunno, this is a tricky issue. I guess I agree with most people that killing chickens humanely and taking milk from cows humanely is okay, but defining 'humanely' is where it gets tricky. A vegan friend of mine won't eat certain kinds of cereals and stuff because they contain a certain food dye that is partially harassed from pig fat (or so I heard) and that kind of stuff just starts getting overly complicated to me, but having morals is never easy, I suppose.

I guess I'll enjoy (and I use that word ironically) my overwhelming hypocrisy on this issue for now."

"Can't wait for the movies myself~ I bet the animation will be even better than the TV show! (9+_+) emoticon

Patiently awaiting the OST, since the TV show's music was really great. I wish they had released it earlier when it was still airing.

I loved the show personally, but I'm not sure why. It was always really fun to watch each week and I miss it now that it's gone. The plot was kind of weird at times, but I still found every minute enjoyable and fun. Here's hoping for more shows like this. :D"

A good movie

"Fluxbox: Yeah, I know what you mean there. Even though I also found it entertaining, it did drag a bit. If you're interested in classic film that's also enjoyable to watch (on a pure entertainment level), definitely check out Hitchcock's works like Psycho (you've probably already seen this), Rear Window, North by Northwest, etc. Hitchcock was a genius filmmaker, but he also didn't get too deep and pretentious with his films. From all the directors of the golden/silver era of film, I would definitely say Hitchcock's stand the test of the time the best.

Of course, I merely state my own opinions, but I'm sure some others share them. Hitchcock is still very well revered according to sites like imdb and whatnot. Makes me happy. :)"

Preparing your work for a larger audience

"Well, some wallers make walls for themselves (and thus their own res) and then like the result so much that they decide to share it. But yes, I agree with your general point. I think something similar about vectors; I just don't see the point in vectoring an image and then uploading it with a background. I don't mean vectored walls, I mean regular vectors uploaded to the scans category. If somebody wants to use it in their wall, they have to extract the vector from the bg, and this often makes the lines look messy.

Vectors saved on a transparent bg make them easier to use for everybody and it's a huge time-saver."

Keeping them protected is one thing, but they're sealed up better than all the gold in Fort Knox."

A good movie

"
Now Citizen Kane which is reported to be the greatest film of all time is a bit too intellectual for me, but there are seriously a lot of awesome older movies.

Citizen Kane is held with such high regard because of the innovations it brought to filmmaking, not necessarily for its plot and acting. It's difficult to use modern standards on films such as those since they've influenced modern film to such a great extent. Citizen Kane is definitely amazing from a production standpoint, but it's not exactly the most enthralling film I've seen. It's not a crime to not find it entertaining. :)

I can't really say I know for sure what makes a good film. I think it's a capable director. The genre and plot don't much matter one way or the other if the person responsible for them is unskilled."

Darker than Black second season confirmed

"
It had huge story potential but I felt it wasn't really developed. It kinda hard the monster of the week feel and even are main characters never got fleshed out.
I thought the same thing. The episodic nature of the storyline was especially galling to me. The feel of the series was that of a cool, neo-noir, and it had so much potential, but I just can never bring myself to care too much about episodic shows. What's the point when you know the new characters are probably going to be dead/never heard from again in one episode?

Still looking forward to it and hoping they'll maybe take the series in a new direction. Maybe Abingdon Boys School will do the OP again, too. :D"

Death Note!!!

"
BlackMokona

I know what you mean. I hated how Mello was killed off. I was very upset when L died with Light's smug face was the last thing he saw. Which made me hate Light even more.
But L still lives on with many L fans out there (including me). I've seen a lot of avatars with L in it.
I wish Matt had more of a role than just a guy who helped Mello, who also died without really doing anything besides tech stuff.
I agree, especially about Matt. I only watched Death Note recently after being familiar (and spoiled, lol) with it for a while, and I always assumed Matt was a prominent character because of the amount of fanart he has. He got less screentime than -insert character who got very little screentime-

Anyway, I didn't really know what to expect when watching this. I always somehow knew I'd like it, but never watched on account of how spoiled I was for most everyone's death. Despite knowing so much about it, I still found it very entertaining and finished it in less than a week. I didn't know Nozomu Sasaki could sound that manly! ~(@_@)~ emoticon"

K-ON! songs

"The ending is absolutely fantastic, from the catchy instrumentals to the vocals. Great song. I was afraid it would be a boring ballad like a lot of ending themes. The opening is okay, but I didn't fall in love with it on first listen like I did with the ending. I'll probably like it more as I watch more of the show.

I'm glad they released both songs so fast. Sometimes they wait too long and it feels like forever you're waiting for a song you've only heard the TV size version of to come out. t(>_<t) emoticon"

New anime of ullmetal Alchemist

[Anime Discussion] Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

7 months 2 days ago

"The second episode of the new OVA, Rei, was really good. The third episode will be out soon, too, I believe. I was kind of surprised with the fanservice-y first episode, but it was actually pretty enjoyable. Most of Higurashi's first episodes don't really reflect the show well, do they? I thought the second episode's story was _really_ good and I can't wait to see how it develops. Also glad to see Rika continuing her larger role in the series, as opposed to season one, which was often more focused on Keiichi.

I just LOVE the new OP, Eiko Shimamiya provided yet another wonderful song for the OP. I wasn't too crazy about Kai's OP, but I loved season one's. The ED is kind of boring and maybe a bit too slow, but it's also quite pretty.

Originally, I heard Rei was supposed to be a regular, full-fledged season, but for one reason or another, it got cut down to an OVA. I hope too much of the plot doesn't get cut out, because I'm really enjoying it thus far."

Clannad Anime Discussion

"Clannad is a really good anime, capable of appealing to those who don't normally enjoy the slice of life genre (like me). At first it bothered me how moe the characters were, and I'm still not a huge fan of the art, but I started loving it for the plot and characters before long.

I watched the first episode a while ago, right after it came out, and I totally dismissed it as just generic moe/slice of life stuff, but I gave it a second chance and I'm so glad I did. Just shows you can never judge a book by its cover."

Books or Internet

10 months 1 week ago

"Definitely the internet. It's more easily available to me (I'm not located near a library) and has a more broad spectrum of information to be discovered (of course, this means you have to sort through lots of garbage to find what you want, but whatever).

I think books, much like the newspaper, are outdated and will soon become obsolete (I think they already have, just that the majority has yet to accept it). The newspaper is already a dying industry and I hope physical books will follow in its footsteps, being replaced by dandy pdf files, perhaps.

I don't know how long it will take, but I think it will be virtually accepted by most once it happens, save for a few romantics who enjoy holding books in their hands. I'm sure there will always be a market for books, just that it will die down considerably. The internet is simply a more logical place to acquire information."

Manners?

1 year 7 months ago

"Well, I see what you mean about being annoyed with people who have no manners whatsoever, but I think friends who talk to each other a lot and whatnot should be casual with each other. I'm not a very formal person and often appear rude to certain people. I'm hardly ever formal with people, even those I don't know too well, but I try to keep up very basic manners.

I guess it all really comes down to what you define as being rude or lacking manners, but I think as long as you greet people with a hello and say thank you, you're not a total loss.

I wish I could be more formal, but it's just not in me. I do try though."
