This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Scan help

" I think you have nothing to worry about... submit awayIt meets the size requirements basically and the "workable image" requirements are there to ensure there is not a lot of white unusable space in the scan. The characters in this are the focal point and are enough of the scan to make it acceptable.
As a general rule, look at it from how a person would use the scan. If I was extracting that image I would us the clothing etc, which means that the usable image is more than the minimum required!

" Hello again...here is another wallpaper, I like how it looks but want to know if people think there is anything that can be improved? Be as harsh as you like, but constructive!
Anyways, its called "ANBU Sunset" and the scan is from either here or minitokyo, stock photo is mine, most brushes are mine as well, thanks to physicalmagic on deviant art for his sunset vector brush.

" All I can say is ... that is fabulous! I really like it, but there is some room for changes:- The scan has some blank edges, there are places where the outline just dissapears
- The "star" brushes in the top left corner are too repetative for the rest of the scan, try slightly more variety like the other collection of stars in the top right corner
- there might be a bit too much light in the center of the scan (if you added that "flare effect"?), but that is just peronal, and does not really affect the wallpaper.
Overall, I love it and hope to see it posted soon!

" Hello again! Here is another wallpaper attempt... This one is a vector that I did all by myself *chuckle*
I have no idea which anime it is from, so that is my first question. Second question is if anyone has any other suggestions for how to use the little kitty in a wallpaper?
Thanks in advance for the help!

" I like the idea, it has merit...However, maybe continue using the way you colored the sword throughout the wall? First remove the glow from around it, maybe make his eyes a blue, some random trees in the background green, the shield another color etc. And all in the style in which you colored the sword.
Finally, I do agree that the background currently does not blend into the picture that well, their needs to be some work done there.
Give the coloring a try, change the background a bit, and re-post... looking forward to seeing it!

" I kind of like the current abstract background!Just goes to show you that everyone has different tastes I guess. However, I do agree that it needs to be a standard size (I recommend 1600x1200 which is easily re-sized). The text could also be changed slightly, but overall a very neat wallpaper.

Shakugan no Shana

" Well, here is another wallpaper attempt, this one is Shakugan no Shana, with the main character Shana!Last time people asked me about sources etc, so I figured to save time I will just lay it all out to start with, every single person I could think of thanking:

SHINTA'S WALLPAPER TUTORIAL --> http://www.imanimetions.net/tutorial/tutorial.php?view=basicwall2

Scan is from AnimePaper
Session Zero for the honest, sometimes brutal, but always appreciated commentary!
---------------------------------------
What do you think? Is the extraction good enough? Is the background original enough to be accepted for AnimePaper? I am not sure what kind it is (grungy? I have no idea) so its just being dubbed "original"by me *chuckle*

Fate Stay Night Wall

" The brown haired girl is Tohsaka Rin, master of Archer ... you should definitely watch the series, it is quite enjoyable!Anyways, here is the original scan... i think it is a scan anyways. It was given to me by a friend Chi, so I do not know who to credit for the scan (he wanted me to make use it as a wallpaper for him... so I doubt he scanned it). However, it is in my folder with all the Fate-Stay night artwork, so it might be from the limited edition art book?
As I mentioned above, I did not do much to the original, other than cleaning it up and brushing in some flashes / bursts of colour to add to the overall effect in the middle of the image. Then I tried to recreate the "lomo" effect of SLR cameras on the image. Basically that is enhancing the contrast and saturation, using the marquee to create a circle of focus, using overlays etc to enhance the focus and adding a darker layer to the outside to really draw the eye in. Basically it is like if you allow for a slower shutter speed to draw in light to the lens but have a narrow focus. The focus is highlighted and everything else is not, but brightness is still enhanced.
hmmmm, If you want the clean version of the image, before the "lomo" effect, message me and I will hunt it down for you, feel free to use it. It is a gorgeous picture all on its own!

" Well, I almost totally forgot about this post! Thanks for the replies, I have made two more versions of the same wallpaper, one with different (and clearer) text and one with no text...Basically if you want, post which one you prefer (original is linked in first post). The "too many things" comment is a personal preference issue, and while I would love it to appeal to everyone, I beleive thats rather impossible! *chuckle*

What do you think?

"...no...
I am sorry, but I do not think that is a wallpaper that really fits with this website. Animepaper is about quality anime wallpapers. That might be able to go under user-submitted art? That is not my area so I cannot really help you.
All I can say is that wallpapers need to be high quality, your own work, the proper size and format (.gif is NOT accepted I do not think) and needs to fit in an anime category... I just do not think this fits any of those criteria

" I like it... however, I do feel the text almost overpowers the wallpaper (which is wierd as there is not a lot of text).A suggestion would be to make you signature text along the bottom much smaller so it does not detract from the actual artwork. Other than that, the resolution may be a bit small, there is not really enough of that neat background to convey a proper sense of chaos combined with emptiness. Maybe try enlarging the canvas but not the image and continuing the brushing further?
otherwise, very cool concept.

" Well... I decided to finish off another wallpaper. This time I tried recreating the "lomo" effect of those expensive SLR digital cameras and highlighting/re-colouring those pretty flares and explosions you can see.
Not sure if its submittable, but I am looking for (1) overall impressions (2) other suggestions as to how to use this killer scan (3) any crazy and wacky ideas you may have!
Here is the link to the full size file, and below is the mini-picture...
Thanks as always *bows*

"I like it, the white background is very appropriate.
HOWEVER,
the grammar of the text makes it un-submittable... its such a small thing and easy to change, please do as I would love to see this in the Gallery!
---------SUGGESTION------------------
"When it all fades awaY"
and I am long forgotten...
-------------------------------------------
The only other style point is I am not a big fan of the secondary text used (and I am long forgotten). However, that is just my opinion and will not affect its place in the Gallery.
Just change the wording I think you can submit it with confidence.

" They want you to be involved rather than simply downloading everything off the site!Bandwidth is expensive and there are limits set on downloading etc (esepcially related to scans... which cost paper). However, as tokidoki mentioned, part of it is related to activity. If you give to AnimePaper, Animpaper gives bakc to you *chuckle*

" *chuckle*thanks, that does help, i will back the saturation up a bit, I have noticed its a bit too much
Nothing i will do about the background, unfortunately, i am a fan of sweet and simple (unless you have a specific idea or brushing/texturing suggestion??)
One question, what do you mean about sympathy for the text to the left?? ;)

" hmmm, i like the idea... however, vectoring it could really help ;)With regards to the current wall:
1) the sparkles are too prominent and overdone, tone them down or better yet, go with some other texture and brushings
2) The feathers are cool, and could be implemented elsewhere (as in you have clouds and feathers, keep using that sort of soft "fluffy or feathery" feel in the wallpaper)
3) the text is too harsh and crisp... again, relating to #2, i would make it more feathery and blend it into the background more, maybe with textures and a feather or cloud brush in white
4) its a nice pic but the edges are rather too choppy/feathered to really highlight her, it makes her blend too much into the background??
and I am no help with the anime source ... sorry!

" I really like the Elfin Lied wall. Here are a couple suggestions:1) tone down the background a bit, maybe soften it once, or fade it a touch
2) The text needs to be brought forward, currently I think the text layter is BEHIND the textures in the background, i would recommend bringing it forward and allowing the background to fade through, as right now it really detracts from the text. Dont' worry about the text overpowering anything, as it will not
3) Make sure the scan really stands out, that is some really neat extraction technique and it deserves to be highlighted ;) I think toning down the background will help a lot
4) Sharpen up the edges of the extraction, right now there you can see where it was "cut out" of the original scan, maybe some feathering or adding another layer will help smooth that out (mainly on the right side)
5) watch bleeding or blurring, as on the left side of the extraction of the character she is really dark and bleeds into the background, and that is ver distracting
------------------
Hmm, about the samurai champloo wallpaper... I like its simplicity; however, that scan has been used a LOT, so you need to make yours stand out. Maybe try making the background more interesting, with textures and patterns. Just make sure the line-outline of the character stil stands out
good work, keep it up!

" Hello hello! Here is a wallpaper I created for DN Angel called "Hero"
I started with a beautiful scan, extracted it, added some layers toget the colours and texture of the scan right with the luminosity etc feel to it. Then I put in the title and flavour text, added the lines, brushed and viola!
However, then I kind of ran into a brick wall... is it complete? Or should I really be doing something different with it? I am a big fan of simple, but I am not sure if this wall is haunting, or just a bit barren ;)

" I am also a collector and somewhat of a source for anime in amongst most of my friends ... and its mainly becauase I have connections or memberships at so many direct DL sites ;) (its a beautiful thing direct download!).However, a trend I have noticed is that most of the better DDL sites have also started offering free anime streaming as well... Have not really tried it myself, but it seems like a good idea if you wanted to preview the anime before downloading it yourself. (not sure if we are allowed to recomend, but anime-eden is so far the best site I have seen for this kind of thing, I have lots of other recomendations ,but its just the best overall I have encountered *chuckle*). Youtube is just horrible quality, USUALLY, so I do not even bother... to me its more for those 30 second clips or anime music videos!
anyways, that's my two cents... more like five cents, but the final thought has to be "Direct Download all the WAY!"

" *chuckle*after two episodes you are giving it a whopping hit??
Well, you should prolly have read this thread all the way through. When you got to the part where people were practically crying that the first season was only 12 episodes long, you could have figured out that it should be good!
That being said...it is good! Its loud, brash, well scripted and drawn and just a well done anime! The only concerns I have appear to be shared by others, that these two twins are crazy and the sadistic gore value just went through the roof. However, its a darker anime in terms of setting and subject material, so it fits ... sort of.

Extraction of a scan
1 year 10 months ago
"well... for starters, the way you are extracting that image is painful and slow... hoever, it could work?
*chuckle*
with a scan like that, the problem is that even once you erase all around her, you still will want to rebuild the image as the edges will not be clear enough and will detract from the image.
Something you could try would be to vector the image (basically use the pen tool to trace over the outside lines ... set the transparency to 50% so you can still see the image and trace away). This will give you a nice clean outline of her to work with. The only issue is that you then either have to re-colour it yourself, or still extrat the original image and merge the two layers together...
not a very helpful post on my part i guess, but there really is no easy way. If the extraction is not going to work the way I want (basically, if i have to re-draw more than 25% of the image, i just vector it and re-colour it myself)
hope this helps, i know there are more knowledgeable people out there who can help you as well... the last thing i can offer is layers, use them, the more the merrier, that saves your original work from disaster!
