Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 2 weeks ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

RIP Michael Jackson

4 months 3 weeks ago

"First Ed Sullivan, then Farrah, then Michael, and now Billy Mays. It is a BAD week to be noteworthy.

It's odd that Michael Jackson and Billy Mays were the same age when they passed. I wouldn't have thought Billy Mays was that old, but I guess he didn't look as old as he actually was. There was no way to know how old Jacko was by looking at him, but I don't think I'd have pegged his age at fifty. I feel old for having been alive when he was actually cool."

How does your life resolve around Anime/Manga?

8 months 5 days ago

"Anime figures into my life in the same way that television, music, games and movies do. It is one facet of the things I do for entertainment, and nothing more. The story might be different if anime were socially acceptable, but since it isn't, I can't (not to say that I would) surround myself with all the trappings of anime fandom. There are no posters on my wall, my pillow isn't a hug pillow with Haruhi on it, and I don't have any action figures. The only time I can watch anime is at night, with headphones. It may not be ideal, but when you are a professional and someones opinion of you would turn from good to "dear lord, what is wrong with this person?" in once glance at a wall scroll, you can't hardly blame me.

When I was younger, and still in middle school, it was much easier to be an anime fan. I played Pokemon with my friends, and watched Dragonball Z, Gundam, and everything else that came on. Everyone my age has fond memories of those shows, and of shows like Voltron and Transformers. No one I know would have any idea what a Gurren Lagann was though, and they all find Japanimation (which is what we called it) to be strictly for kids, and nothing more. When I think about it, it is kind of a shame, but I can live with only being able to talk about movies/music/games/and TV with friends, and not the one facet of entertainment that is anime.

I keep hoping that anime will advance to a level where it's socially acceptable, but it still has this awful connotation that it's all either for kids, or violent tentacle pron. Being associated with either thing is terrible. Games used to have that type of negative connotation, but it is improving, and I hope the same will happen for anime someday. "

Your favorite console, and why.

8 months 5 days ago

"Personally speaking, my favorite console of this generation is the Xbox 360. Games and everything else aside, the 360 has a much better controller than the Playstation 3 in my opinion. Playing FPS games with the PS controller is like a giant leap backward compared to playing on the 360 controller, which I can honestly say is probably the best controller ever made, period. If I had to list another reason, it would probably be the gigantic divide when it comes to the online experience. Forming a party on the PS3 is excruciatingly hard, and ultimately just not worth it. None of my friends play the PS3 online because of this, further strengthening the 360's case. It may be a free online service, but you get exactly what you pay for with it. I'd pay the 30 dollars a year for live (which you can find it for on sale all over the place) JUST for the Netflix support.

I loved the PS2, mostly for gems like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and that caliber of game just hasn't made its way to the PS3 yet. There are some good exclusive games on the PS3 (Valkyria Chronicles comes to mind) but none (other than MGS4) that would make me jealous if I didn't own a PS3 (which I do). LBP could have been that game for me, but it just didn't live up to the sky high expectations that everyone had set for it. I'm sure this problem will be rectified as the PS3 gets more advanced in years, especially with the successor to SOTC and Ico being developed, but it isn't there yet. Add to all of that the massive blunder that is/was home, and it's a no brainer, for me at least.

I'd put the Wii into a completely different category. It's not Next-Gen, and I don't think it was ever trying to be. I consider it to be little more than a toy at this point. A toy that gets a Mario and a Zelda every three or so years, with a massive hole in between, just like the Gamecube. I bought one for Zelda, and kept it for Mario, but having played both, I don't know if I'll be keeping my Wii much longer.

Evil Will Triumph?

1 year 9 months ago

"Once you get over a certain age, you realize that there is no black or white, but only shades of grey. It all depends on which shade of grey people are willing to call black at the time, if that makes any sense. For instance, 100 years ago, people got married and had kids at 13. 50 years ago, schools, restaurants, etc were segregated by color. All of these things were "white" at the time, and are now "black". Things we see as "Good" now, could be "Evil" 50 years from now (my vote goes for carbon spewing cars, power plants etc. In 50 years, people will say "What were they thinking?!"). History sorts it all out in time."

Have you ever been hit on by someone of the same sex?

1 year 9 months ago

"I have been hit on by persons of the same sex, but unlike some others, I was never okay with it. To me, it doesn't matter that it's another guy. It matters that it's not a girl. What I mean by this, is that a dog, a deer, a buffalo, or some sort of mountain goat, could have hit on me, and I'd have had the same reaction as I would if a guy hit on me. I could care less if dudes want to hit on other dudes, but they should atleast make sure the other dude is ok with it first. I certainly wasn't, and I know alot of other guys that wouldn't have been either. There is nothing wrong with that, as it's just as much of a physical thing for a straight man to be repulsed by a gay man, as it is for a gay man to be repulsed by a woman. It's not a big deal though, aslong as the other guy takes the hint the first time that I'm not into it. If a guy were ever to try what guys try to girls, on me, (constant flirting, whether told to go away or not), there would definitely be problems."

Do you exercise?

1 year 9 months ago

"I do exercise, but like many, I don't do it enough. I do it probably the bare minimum to stay in decent enough shape that you would never consider me unhealthy, but not enough to truly be in great shape. I don't really have a problem with it though, and neither do other people, so it isn't a huge issue. "

girls with glasses ^_^

1 year 9 months ago

"I like girls with glasses when they don't really need glasses. For instance, the hot teacher arch-type, with rim glasses, hair tied back, etc. It's more about how the girl wears them, if they fit her head shape properly, etc, than it is about the actual glasses. If they are prescription though, it's not good, and they should switch to contacts (with fake glasses over). I know it makes no sense, but you did ask."

math=hard or easy??

1 year 9 months ago

"Math isn't hard. Math is formula's, formula's, and more formula's. If you can memorize the formula's, then you should be able to calculate anything else with a calculator. More often than not, it comes down to keeping figures straight all the way throughout an operation. For instance, with algebra, you have to switch numbers from side to side sometimes, and if you misplace even one number, your results are completely wrong. So is it hard? No. Does it take ALOT of work? Yes."

"Math isn't hard, so much as it's so soul-suckingly boring that by test time you've only payed attention for a total of 10 minutes the entire semester. When you get right down to it, it's cold, logical, and it never changes on you (like how English changes from teacher to teacher -_- A+ in one class is a C in another)."

When Do You Wake Up In The Morning?

2 years 6 days ago

"I get up in the morning whenever my class schedule dictates. If I don't have class, then I'm probably not getting out of bed until after noon, unless I have something to do earlier in the day. There isn't much to do around here during the winter months anyway, so it's not as if I'd be missing anything by sleeping in. Having said that, I prefer days that are filled with activities (even if they are school) to days where I've got nothing to do."

Do you think Loli = Pedo ?!!

2 years 6 days ago

"Every time I see a loli character in an anime, I envision the hordes of Japanese (and western) fans that like the anime specifically because they are attracted in "That way" to them. It sickens me a little bit, but I also realize that not everyone that watches anime (since alot of animes, across a lot of genres include loli's) are pedo's. Having said that, if you are physically attracted to the loli's, and not just in an "aww, that's so cute!" sort of way, then yes, that would make you a pedo. Or atleast that's my view anyway."

Girls with short hair

"In an ideal world maybe...

I prefer girls with long hair. There really isn't anything specific that can be pointed to as to why I prefer long hair, I just do. Having said that though, I hate hair that is disgustingly long (Past the waist long...gah) and I like girls with long hair to have it up in a pony tail (if I had my absolute preference). Short hair is a major turn off."

Global Warming

2 years 3 months ago

"I consider the whole global warming debate about as useful as crazy people that hold signs saying "IT'S THE END OF DAYS!!" on the street corner. There are basically two sides to global warming (the debate); One is the environmentalists, and the other is the power companies/industries that don't want to spend the billions it would take to shape up. Both sides will give you the (completely wrong) extremist argument that either Global Warming doesn't exist, or that it exists and we're all going to die very very soon. The scientists without an agenda generally hold the opinion that Global Warming exists, but that it won't be a problem for 50-100 years or more, and that we've got plenty of time to fix our emissions problems. That's what I think anyway."

Bullies: What has been done to stop them

2 years 3 months ago

"Bullying is a natural part of life for most people unfortunatly. When I was in elementary school, I was the tallest (boy) in the class, and everyone gave me crap about it. Eventually they realized that my height gave me the advantage on them in sports, and the bullying ended, but elementary school was pretty rough. There really is nothing you can do, but that's somewhat changing. Schools are now going so far as to punish kids for "Cyberbullying" or bullying kids over AIM/Yahoo Instant Messanger etc. So atleast schools are aware of the problem, and not going with the old "Boys will be boys!" and "Girls will be Girls!" attitudes that dominated my youth (and I assume most of yours).

If your sister needs some encouragement, tell her the story of my bully. His name was Danny, and he used to constantly make jokes at my expense, steal things from my backpack, and even once he even went so far as to take the hat off of my head, run into the bathroom, and attempt to flush it down the toilet. As elementary school turned to middle school, and childish behavior was no longer tolerated, he got into more and more trouble. Fist fights at school, sexual harassment claimed by girls, etc. Then one day in the first year of highschool he picked a fight with a much bigger guy, and ended up having a seizure on the spot/going to the hospital. It was only then that we learned (gossip is almost as bad as bullying sometimes) that he was mentally depressed, he had ADD, and basically his life was a living hell. The moral of the story is that bullies have alot of issues and problems in their lives more often than not. It would be a good thing for your sister and the bully, if you were to involve the school and get the bully punished. If it's one thing they need, it's attention, and if getting them in trouble early while it's still not too late is the only thing that will help, then I say go for it. In any case you can't let your sister continue to go malnurished. "

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

2 years 3 months ago

"Something about the beginning/middle of the book felt to me like a slap in the face. It was almost like JK Rowling was desperate for characters to kill off, and her publisher having said "You can't kill Ron or Hermione!", she decided to exact her revenge on Hedwig, Dobby, Lupin, Tonks, Fred, Tonk's dad, Rufus Scrimgeour, etc etc. The book felt alot like the 5th book to me, with constant angst and noone believing Harry AGAIN (In 7 years, noone learned to trust Harry. Not even Ron and Hermione). More so than that, I think my problem with the book is that it was only set in Hogwarts near the very end. She could very well have fleshed out the semi-rebellion at Hogwarts, led by Neville and Ginny etc, but she didn't. She kept the book very focused (I'd say wrongly focused) on Harry/Ron/Hermione camping in the woods for the bulk of the novel. At the very end, she denies us a moment to relax, and to go to the funerals of all the dead, and to reflect on the events of the final battle, and instead she decides to leave a 19 year gap in which she can eventually write more books, and make more money (atleast that's my opinion of why she did it). My favorite part of the book was all the revelations about Dumbledore, and how he really was just a showoff, and a pompous git for the first half of his life. That Dumbledore meant to send Harry to his death from the moment he met him (although some would say he knew Harry would not die; I personally think he didn't) was amazing. All in all, nothing is ever going to replace the first 4 books of the series as my favorite Potter books. I believe there might eventually be prequels, sequels, etc, but I don't think anything is ever going to match up to books 1-4. Just like how the Silmarillion doesn't even come close to comparing with the Trilogy and the Hobbit. My only other gripe is that people continue to think of Snape as a good guy, even though he was just so insanely obsessed with Harry's mother, that he sortof (not very convincingly, nearly got him killed many times) repented for his sins by helping Harry. In my opinion, Snape is a bad seed, that couldn't even get rid of his racism in an attempt to have any sort of chance with the girl he loved, and that furthermore would have wished the deaths of James and Harry in order to save Harry's mother. He's the most despicable character that comes to mind, that any author has ever attempted to make her readers like (Maybe with the exception of Edmond Dantes)"

Capitalism

2 years 3 months ago

"Communism in it's truest form is a failure because there is a lack of incentive. Without incentive, there is nothing keeping people productive (Since they make the same whether production is high, or low) and nothing for people to strive for. Capitalism becomes a failure when the, as Marx put it, "Factory Owners" are given a say in government (Such as they do via lobbying in state, and national governments in almost every capitalist country). No system is perfect, and as someone stated before, Capitalism just happens to be the least imperfect system available."

Can you listen to music while reading manga?

What do you do when you're bored in class?

"In highschool it was easy because I had friends to screw around with while classes were going on. But now that I'm in Uni, it's alot harder to stay awake because I don't know the people in my classes that well (and thus I have noone to mess with). It's a Uni though as I said before, so I'm allowed to have my laptop out (for note taking purposes) but since the campus has wi-fi, I usually end up playing Rollin at Free Arcade (.org, .com, I can't remember) and looking at, shall we say, "Adult Oriented" sites =p"

What is wrong with YOU?

2 years 6 months ago

"What is wrong with pissing in the sink? It seems like a cleaner alternative to doing it in the toilet, since you don't have to touch the lid to get it up.

But if I had to pick one thing...I'd have to say... probably my tendency to procrastinate until the last possible second. For instance, I didn't sign up for classes until the last possible second, and nearly missed out on one of the required classes for my BBA (Because the class was nearly full. I took the last seat of the last available class)

Other than that, my room is alot less clean than it could be (clothes all over the floor, empty soda bottles and cans on my desk) and magazines all over the place.

I know many, many worse people. "

"I'm superstitious to the point where I avoid breaking mirrors/walking under ladders/coming across black cats as much as possible, but not to the point where if I break a mirror I immediately go inside and stay there for 7 years until my bad luck is finished. Although, I am superstitious to the point where I won't say things like "I wish he was dead!" for fear that the one time in my life that a wish will have been fulfilled will be that time. It's silly, but it's just the way I am I guess."
