Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 2 weeks ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Preparing your work for a larger audience

4 months 3 weeks ago

"I really wonder why many of the wallers keep making wallpapers for themselves to upload here (seeing new walls with only a 1280 x 720 or 1400 x 1024 res are good examples)

I mean if you upload your wall here you want to people to use it right? Then shouldn't you prepare it for a large as possible audience?

I opt for an number of minimum required resolution version before an upload is allowed.

For example:

1920x1200 (24" wide)
1680x1050 (22" wide)
1600x1200 (20" )
1440 x 990 (19" wide)
1280 x 1024 (17" )

That will cover all the current standards and most used resolutions of course the artists will be allowed to upload more, other resolutions but the above will be required. Of course the required resolutions will be up for debate and if chosen for this suggestion the staff will decide what is required or not I'm giving an example.

I think adding such a rule will greatly increase the overall quality of the uploads and will also bring more downloads because all the wallpapers will be usable for 99% of the user base.

Discuss. "

Metalheads unite!

7 months 1 week ago

"Ohh this thread has actually survived a bit I'm quite shocked but nice to see at least a few fellow metalheads are here =)

I recently starting listing more to Heavy metal (Black Sabbath, guns and roses etc) and mostly still listen to power metal. Surprised I haven't seen anyone else mention Savatage.

Also nice to see so many Progressive metalheads Evergrey, Ayreon and Dream Theater are bands that I listen to on a regular basis. But mostly my music is on random with a good 10.000+ songs of all sorts of heavy, progressive, power and other metal.

You people should get a chat room.

9 months 4 days ago

"
Well I don't personally enjoy IRC's because they are so irritating to get into, usually I have to type in the name of the channel I want to join four or five times, then I have to wait for everything to load, and then most of the IRC's are just so bland and visually unattractive I don't want to stay on one. But I hear they're simple to set up. . . .

Then you might want to check with a doctor seems your finer motor skills are way below average if it takes you five times before you type the command (which you can very easily automate btw) incorrectly. Also upgrading from a 14.4k modem to a "normal" broadband connection will resolve your "lag" issues irc is one of the least bandwidth using and least lagging chat system around.

Also - i know some kids may disagree - but I prefer a chat system without too much annoying flashy chat room with too many annoying smilies and such irc is simple text as a chat should be...

Then even for less able people like yourself seemingly unable to type straight there are very simple web clients for irc where (if you're able) only have to fill in your nickname then the rest goes by itself.

Minimum requirements for Featured wallpapers?

9 months 1 week ago

"As the topic says wouldn't it be a good idea of making a few minimum requirements to featured wallpapers?

I mean like half of those papers are in resolutions of 1280x1024 or lower I mean hello! news flash! no one uses such resolutions anymore. Lets say walls need a minimum resolution of at least 1680x1050 or higher to be nominated.

And maybe featured wallpapers should be voted? I mean currently from what I see featured walls are just the picks of a select few people personal taste."

Setting up your screen for best colour display?

9 months 2 weeks ago

"I recently got two more monitors an 22" and a 24" the 24 is an samsun syncMaster 2493HM the 22" is the same one as my first monitor a Acer X222w.

Now even though I'm very happy with the screens something has come to my attention and that is the huge difference in colour display between the screens.

I've been wondering since then.. as an artist when making something you want to be sure your colour settings are correct otherwise what you might consider as dark blue or light blue etc might look very different then you intended to on another screen.

In the end (at least for me) you want to share you work with as many people as possible so you want to make sure what you designed is at least done by a "standard" colour set instead of making something that just happens to look good on your screen.

Is there a sure way to "tune" your display to show the correct colours? I mean other designers must run into similar issues I mean if you create a video game you basically want what you design to show the same way on the end users screen how do they cope with this?

Promoting the irc channel

"The nice part about irc is that you have many types of clients some of them can be very easily added to any website. Another big plus for irc is the ability moderate the channel by assigning trusted users with some rights to remove troublemakers, spammers and bots. Then you can also simply run a bot yourself to keep the channel in check you have really easy to use bots that can keep your channel in check.

I also made a guide (files are at work) tried to link to it here but somehow it won't let met post links... made a little flash video that shows people how to setup mIRC which takes less then 2 minutes really.

And then theres sites such as mibbit where you can create your own irc web widget you can integrate into your website.

So basically you would join the channel login to the animepaper bot with your site login and all you have to do is chat. The bot will also remove spammers and such and people making trouble in other ways can be handled by the staff or trusted members."

Promoting the irc channel

10 months 2 days ago

"This entire site is build on the idea of giving and taking..

Posting on the forums is also a show of activity in the community so I don't see why chatting on a channel made for this site wouldn't count.

The exact details about rewarding people that do go to the channel and chat is something the staff will have to decide.. for example you could drop the idle bonus and you only receive papers when actually chatting like 1 hour of chatting is 10 papers (numbers are an example!)

Also, I'm not sure what they are exactly planning on the v6 version but I think a build in chat would be great but PLEASE use irc as a base for this not only will this save a ton of custom work to create an chatbox it will also allow people to chat from irc using a normal client. Web clients ten to be laggy, resource hogging and usually don't work well on very small screens such as cellphones.

On top of that irc is designed to allow staff to give trusting members other privileges like removing troublemakers from the channel and such which can be useful."

Promoting the irc channel

10 months 3 days ago

"There are basically two problems..

1) Hardly anyone knows about the channel
Solution: A button on every page to goto the (web)chat and / or info to connect.

2) No bonus for people that go.
Reasoning: People come here to get wallpapers.. unless they get something out of it such as it is with posting on the forums to get more papers.
Solution: Find a way to give the people that chat and/or idle on irc a bonus for doing so. Maybe a bot that keeps track of people in the channel, how much they actually chat and how much they idle. Like for every hour of chatting you get 5 papers and for every 6 hours of idle time you get one paper.

I think an active irc channel will greatly improve the community here and I also think there is a "need" for such a place seeing the chatting going on in the shoutbox."

"Hence the promoting part, the irc channel (or at least a link to it) needs to be placed in a more prominent place on the website.

And irc widgets are easy to make with mibbit such as:

http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=438d954d9ed7a7d7d26ec992b1924da1&server=irc.rizon.net&channel=%23animepaper&noServerMotd=true&autoConnect=true

Easy and simple enough for anyone you only have to change your nickname.

That and having a good guide on how to setup mIRC is a must if there is enough interest I could make one it only takes a few minutes."

"And that is just the mistake,

Maybe in your case you have a large monitor I don't know but for all we know you use an resolution of 1280 x 1024 or the like.

The whole point is that people creating wallpapers have to start thinking beyond their own situation and create something that works for everyone (or at least the majority)."

"Just noticed this place does have a irc channel just seems to be a bit.. dead at the moment.

Wouldn't it be an idea to spice up the channel to somehow have people earn papers by staying / chatting in the animepaper irc channel.

Like, place a bot there that is linked to the site and basically keeps track of all users on the channel (maybe only those registered with nickserv / log in tot he bot with the site login info). Then give papers for being in the channel for xx time and give a bonus for actually chatting etc.

I think that would give a nice boost to the channel and its activity turning it in a fun place for fellow animepaper members to chat with each other."

"Mmm well I know some websites (usually those image upload sites) have an function to have the website resize the image for you.

Wouldn't it be possible to only allow a minimum size like 1920×1080 (full hd) and have the website automatically resize them to the smaller resolutions.

That way you will make the majority of this site very happy currently the largest common screen resolution is full hd at 1920×1080"

"I've only been a member for a short while but something somewhat strange came to my attention when browsing wallpapers.

As a fellow artist I try to make my work as appealing as possible for a as many people as possible.

I often come across amazing wallpapers created in only one resolution often a small one as well. What stops you from creating your wallpapers at a higher resolution right now more and more people use larger tft screens those are usually at a minimum of 1440 x 900 but also screens of 22" (1680 x 1050) and 24" (1920 x 1200) are far from rare these days. Then there is also the strong up come of HD TV's and screens and such.

Yet it seems that even the new wallpapers released are often catered at the resolution of the person creating the wall and not at a larger crowd. I mean in the end you post your wallpaper here for others to see and hopefully use wouldn't it be logical that you aim for the largest crowd possible. A wall of a large resolution can easily be down sized but a small wall can't be up-sized without losing quality.

So what is everyone's thought on this?"

"In short.. Slightly strange anime watching metalhead-ish (I listen to other stuff to :P!)

Long version~

I'm Robert a dutchie of 24 years young. Besides my love for anime and the Japanese culture I'm also a bit of a gamer but not as "hardcore" as I used to be now I just mostly try the new stuff that comes out but the new games usually bore me after a few hours. I do play DoTa quite often with friends which is fun even if its a old game :)

As for my music.. you can follow my addiction here: clickies

Theres also this survey I filled in might give you a bit of an idea what I like when it comes to anime linky"
