"Well, cleaning and retouching isn't exactly making a wallpaper. You have to add your own ideas and elements to the scan, extract characters and make new background perhaps, vector the image, whatever you like. Even though many wouldn't be allowed here because of their content, practically all of them wouldn't be accepted because you didn't do enough to the original scan."

Chrono Cross watercolor wallpaper [Aria di Orizzonte]

I have another Chrono Cross wallpaper that I am working on, but I found that the cover of this shiny new doujinshi I bought would make for a neat wallpaper, and be much less of a chore to construct. Or, so I thought. I think I have gotten the watercolor look I was going for down pretty good, thanks to some brushes, my own art skeelz, and a watercolor texture.

Here is the wall in its current form:

And here is the original scan, sized down a bit:


Trouble spots? Well, right now they are the figures and the text. I love the composition of the text, but I don't know what I could do to make it less crisp and go along more with the watercolor theme. I don't know if I should try and lighten the figures further, especially on Kidd's (the blonde's) face.

So, what do you all think? Anything I can add? Change? Just burn the thing and call it done?"

Girls with short hair

"I'm a girl and I had long hair for much of my life. I only just cut my hair short a little less than a year ago, and I am very happy with my short hair. I had wanted to for years, but my mom was always making a fuss that I might never be ever to get it long again.

It looks much better on me. I'm even thinking of getting bangs again after not having them for years. I've had a side part with long bangs, but I kind of want to try short bangs. I've got a long, classical face. Can anyone suggest some nice bangs that might fit me?

So, yeah, I'm all for girls with short hair! You can still be "girlish" with short hair, which is why I think a lot of people are disillusioned to short cuts. You might not have long locks to run your fingers through, guys, but your gal probably looks a lot better standing near ya if she has the right hair cut."

"Oh my goodness, hitchild. That's terrible! I would say that you should probably look into another job, as hard as that might be. :/

I work part/almost full time at Claire's Boutique. If anyone doesn't know what the heck that is, it's pretty much a little girl/preteen store that has a lot of cheap jewelry, accessories, toys and some random nice earrings (sterling silver and 14k gold.) Our specialty is piercing ears, however. I do a lot of piercings.

Besides small children screaming in my ear right as I am about to pierce them, there are some very big ups and downs about piercing people's ears. Sometimes, they faint (which usually isn't too bad,) or they vomit. My most hated favorite moment when this little girl threw up all over the carpet (they never throw up on the hardwood area near the piercing station) near the cash register, and her aunt goes "Oh, there's that garlic bread! :D" I MEAN WHAT THE HELL LADY.

At least the girl's mom cleaned it up and wouldn't let me touch it. "

"WOW. Nice color choices, seriously. Haruhi looks rather nice~

I think the strange, jagged, dark purple lines could easily be removed. This wall has a very flowing feel, and the jagged look just doesn't fit, I think. And maybe instead of the gold plants, you could make some flying leaves instead? It would make the wall even more flowing and what not. In anycase, this wallpaper is awesome. I hope to see it finished.

"The image and color choices are really nice, but the text on the right, the big and the small, seem out of place. I personally would put something else over there. Maybe you could render a background through vectoring and then apply some textures to make it look like a painting on a scroll? I think that would look pretty nice with the already scroll-like image~"

A Byakuya wallpaper

"Vectoring both images <i>and</i> the background would be a good idea. Nearly everything in the wall is just a little too jagged and unclean. If you don't know how to vector, there are plenty of tutorials around the internet.

Personally, I don't think the two images really fit together that well, even though they're both of Byakuya. The Shinigami outfit versus the suit just isn't working for me for some reason... but that could just be my taste.

Clean it up, and then more suggestions will come~"

Well, I was gone for a while, but I did take some of your advice and tried out the clouds. Though, I technically should add the window patterns, since it's not implied that the light is not as strong, now. But it's so intricate. ;n; The other big change is that I added two more characters to the wall; Ovan and Azure Kite. I don't know if this made the wallpaper too busy or takes too much focus off of Shino and Haseo... but I had to do a lot of editing, coloring, and tweaking to get Azure Kite to look right. The wallpaper has some more significance with those two there, I think, but... mm.

What Kind of Music is Emo?

"It's no good when you label yourself. Labeling just puts another pointless mask on your face and gives people more right to judge you based on the stereotypical qualities of the label you have chosen. Be yourself, nothing else. Oh, and don't stick to one or two genres of music. It's very dull and restricting.

Emo, regardless of what it once meant, has a new meaning for many young people now, and it's usually used in a derogatory manner. Some kids use it proudly, yet others gag at the thought.

I think the real deciding factors of what defines the derogatory version of emo music are:
1. Whiny singer.
2. Shallow and often juvenile lyrics about betrayal, rejection, and love that sound like something that came out of some depressed 7th grader's poetry notebook.
3. Repetitive and uninteresting music. It just has this sound to it where casual listeners can't really tell the emo bands apart that well.

Then again, in many genres, you can't tell many bands apart. But, I think what's weird is that there are some really overly popular "emo" bands that sound way too freaking similar at this point in music history.

"Wow, great improvements! I really love the look of this wall.

However, I think now that you have removed the third version of the girl that was more towards the center, that space is very empty now. Maybe you could add some very light, simple scenery from a stock photo in that space between the two figures in the upper part of the wall? Not the easiest to pull off without it look cluttered, but I think a very simple overlay of some cloud patterns would help. Or even some simple brush work of some curving lines to connect the two figures in some way would work if you can pull it off. It just seems disjointed to me at the moment, and the wall doesn't "flow" as well as it could. If anything, this just might be me nitpicking and you can ignore me if you want. In anycase, I'll totally download this wall when you're done~"

Maybe adding some wet spots on the wall would be nice. I mean, what wall stay dry around water? And maybe making the PADI emblem a little weathered, like some spots where the paint has been worn off over time. "

And do you mean add some kind of bg into the funky stuff on the left side of the wall? (They're in a cathedral, btw.) Or maybe you mean add some ground at the bottom of the wall? I kind of wanted to keep it as the big white space for some reason; it would probably take some (not) fun work to try and render a floor, but... eep.

I tried smudging some areas I thought you maybe were talking about, but I wasn't sure. I purposefully don't want the text to be readable, but I sharpened the tiny text a bit. And as far as the figures... I probably should have included the original scan from the get-go, but they already kind of blend with the background without the effects I added. You can see the scan here, and I will be adding it to the first post in case anyone misses this. I tried to remedy this by putting a lightening layer over the figures, but... I think it just made it worse. :/ I also messed around with the gradient a bit.

"I've heard around that Nomura has stated that KH3 can take place in either the past or future. Maybe the game will be split between these times, and even time travel could be involved? There's not a really substantial amount of information to really get anything solid out of what has been revealed, though. >:

There is also a seemingly random, but it really caught my attention when he said it, by Xigbar. He says to Sora "But MAN, did it pick a dud this time. You don't look like you're half the hero the others were." So... Xigbar has seen former Keyblade wielders apparently? His weird mention of that just seems like blatant foreshadowing that the next game is really gonna focus on past Keyblade wielders, strengthened by the secret trailer contents. Anyone else find it somewhat weird, or was Xibar just blathering on about crap?"

Greatest Hero In Final Fantasy

"Hahaha, this is why I hate the word "hero." People have very stereotypical views of what a hero should be, what they need to do, and how they act. Zidane bashing... wow. I think the real triumph of Zidane was the fact that he was able to pull a whole team of depressed/wronged/unsatisfied group of people to the point that they all rush to support him in his darkest moment (if you've played IX, you should know what point I am talking about.) Frankly, Zidane's personality is probably the most fit for a hero/leader. He motivates his comrades, who are indispensable in the struggle, without seeming too bouncy, perky and hopeful. Just supportive and logical. He might not be badass, brooding, all-powerful, or stricken with a horrible life/mental freaking illness, Zidane was still selfless and caring enough to be a hero; he just showed it in a more subtle way than most. The negative view of him is probably strengthened by the fact that not much of his past was shown (though his true nature/origin was said.) Only in a few fleeting lines between him and Dagger in the inn at Black Mage Village in the form of a bedtime story tell of what his early life was like.

But, in anycase, I have no real opinion on the "greatest" hero of FF. Too many of the characters are just big wankers."
