After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

I might like you, dunno, I know nothing about you other than catching you torturing some poor soul who may be asking for it, but that's not a great excuse for an honorable person.

$rabbitking 53 seconds ago
Well, thats the first time i've ever brought up the subject so whatever

$Astara 1 minute ago
Never said I didn't like _you_, just your actions may not be ones I let go without comment. Just like you feel free to act, I feel free to comment or, also act. Fair, no?

~Lekwid 2 minutes ago
What? No more talk about rape? It seemed like such a durable subject

$rabbitking 2 minutes ago
Funny, the world treats me that way. a lot of times sensitive subjects to me are brought up and i just grit my teeth and say nothing

$Astara 3 minutes ago
I don't like anyone torturing or teasing people in a hurtful way...causing other's pain is not beneficial for any; usually indicates hurt within the aggressor that needs healing

$rabbitking 4 minutes ago
Well, if you dont like me, dont watch. i dont understand people who dont come to this realization and i simply call them retards

~Espada 4 minutes ago
Thank you Astara.

$Astara 5 minutes ago
Of course you'd rather not, I call you on your games.

I'd rather not talk to you, astara. i dont know you, never seen you talking on shoutbox before

Umineko no Naku Koro ni

3 months 1 week ago

"I love this series! The opening song is fantastic, and so is the story. I haven't read the VN, but maybe that's better since I don't know what I'm missing?

To me, Umineko is the most promising series of the season. I'm expecting a lot from it, and so far it hasn't disappointed. Except for Maria, perhaps... truly, she is very annoying."

Is it possible to fall in love with an anime character?

3 months 1 week ago

"
tenken
There is a similarity between loving a fictional character and loving a dead person. Both the dead and the fictional exist in the thoughts of the real and living. Hence, our manner of interacting with the dead is like unto the manner of interacting with fictional characters.

Interesting. However, I'd still argue that love for a dead person is derived from interaction you had with them while they were alive. That interaction is something you can never have with a fictional character."

Has the hentai slipped through?

3 months 1 week ago

"I personally don't like those sorts of pictures either, but I agree with akatsuki10 that they fall under the "ecchi" category rather than hentai. They're suggestive, but not quite over the line since they don't outright expose any of the really questionable stuff (to put it lightly). At least, that's been the case with the pictures I've seen on the main page."

Is it possible to fall in love with an anime character?

3 months 1 week ago

"I would say no. I've had characters that I liked in the past, but I wouldn't call it love. An infatuation, perhaps, but more like an obsession than actual love. I believe that how people view "love" can vary, so this is merely my opinion, but I don't think that you can honestly be in love with someone you've never even met. It takes an actual relationship with someone to say you're in love with them, and that's clearly not possible with a cartoon character. I don't think that means you don't have to like elements about a character, though. I think it's fine to say that you admire a character's sense of chivalry, for example.

The problem with thinking you "love" an anime character is that it can warp your expectations of reality. Characters are often idealized, and that can be problematic when you have to deal with real people, because no one is perfect. (Even if a character is popular because he/she is flawed, they're still technically perfectly imperfect...) So I think it's healthy to admire a character, but not to be obsessed."

Do girls like anime as much as guys do?

3 months 1 week ago

"I'm a girl, and I'm part of an anime club (100+ members) where there are just as many girls as guys. To me, there isn't any gender gap, although I have noticed that it seems that way on the internet sometimes.

I disagree that "most anime is of hot female figures". After all, most of the girls I know are really into shoujo anime, which of course mostly feature bishounen. I typically prefer shounen series because I like action, and I've got several (female) friends who feel the same.

Also, I'm not put off by a guy who likes anime, although sometimes I find it a bit odd when a guy likes Fushigi Yuugi more than I do. I guess it's still more "acceptable" for a girl to like shounen than for a guy to like shoujo, although I'd argue that that is changing too.

I've also noticed that more people than you'd think like anime, but they don't always share it. I know a few people who are "closet geeks" because they're afraid of what other people will think. "

Thanks a bunch for all your help! I really appreciate it. =)"

"My security settings are set to medium-high; I turned them down to medium, but it had no effect. The antivirus program I'm using is McAfee, although I'm not sure what I might have to change there. I'm also unfamiliar with ajax... is there anything specific I can try?

EDIT: I noticed an icon at the bottom (an exclamation point) that appears when I try to load that page (and this one). I'm not sure if it's relevant or not, but I took a snapshot just in case:

"I feel like there's an obvious answer to this question, but I've checked the FAQs and tried to simply wait it out, but with no luck. So here it is: when I go to edit my profile, I have only the "remove" button for an avatar and a signature. I've been unable to add either for a few weeks now. The problem started when I wanted to change my previous avatar. Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks!"

Clannad Anime Discussion

1 year 7 months ago

"Clannad was definitely a series I thought I wouldn't like. I really hate harem anime. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, Okazaki is surrounded by girls, and he interacts with all of them, but the "every relationship has to be romantic!" plot that annoys me in other harem series wasn't present in this one. Instead, it was thoughtful and cute, and I found myself really enjoying the characters instead of being annoyed by them.

I haven't seen Air or Kanon, and I don't really plan to, but perhaps I might look them up again since everyone seems to agree that they're so much better than Clannad."

Hating Orihime?

1 year 7 months ago

"Orihime frustrates me for several reasons. First, it would be a whole lot better if Kubo Tite wasn't simply repeating the "damsel-in-distress" plotline. It's really the same as the arc with Rukia, except instead of shinigami, this time Ichigo & Co. are battling the Arrancar. She was also initially frightened by Hollow Ichigo. Perhaps he did remind her of her brother, but like Nel pointed out, there's nothing to be afraid of - Ichigo's abilities were gained all for the sake of his friends. Of course the mask presents a bit of a risk, but worrying about it doesn't help her or Ichigo, especially since he won't surive his time in Hueco Mundo without it. In addition, the "martyr logic" she's using is faulty, since it's been proven that Ichigo is the kind of person who'd ignore all the risks to save a comrade. Realistically, Ichigo's up against impossible odds, but fortunately, we know they'll make it through somehow. Since they all went to Hueco Mundo anyway, Orihime agreeing to go first didn't really spare them any pain or inconvinience. I'll admit that Ulquiorra put her in a pretty tight spot, though, and that she chose what appeared to be the best option.

I suppose I don't hate Orihime, but I am a bit annoyed with her. I haven't read the manga, but presumably her role will be more significant in later episodes. So far, Aizen has only occasionally made use of her incredible healing abilities. Right now, the anime is focused on preliminary battles, but I'm sure that once Ichigo and the gang get further along we'll see more plot development again all the uncertainties about Orihime and Aizen will be revealed. So I'm looking forward to it, and I'm guessing that any annoyances with Orihime will wear off. ;p"

A Kiss... Cheating or Not?

1 year 10 months ago

"Haha, I saw this thread on the main page and had to swing by to comment.

To me, a kiss is a form of small-time commitment. It shows that you're serious about someone. So in my opinion, if you're in a relationship, you shouldn't be kissing other people. I'm sure not everyone feels strongly about it, but it's still a matter that could potentially cause great offense. "

What anime do you think needs another season?

2 years 4 months ago

"I have to agree with the Ouran consensus. As unlikely as it seems, I'd really like to see another season of that. I'd also like to see more Black Blood Brothers. For an interesting story like that, 12 episodes was just too short.

I've heard Code Geass is getting another season. That's something I didn't see coming, though I'm glad to hear it. Also, I thought we were supposed to get a third season of Tsubasa Chronicle. Does anyone know if that's still the case?"

what do you think about death note ending (for people who already finished the anime)

2 years 4 months ago

"The ending was very powerful, but a little too "pretty". I haven't read the manga, but I've heard that Light loses all sense of pride and power and dies a miserable death. True, he dies in the anime, but they way they portray it, you almost feel a bit of regret at his death. Like Near said, Light is a mass murderer. He doesn't deserve a "pretty" end, and the harsher ending of the manga concludes the story just like it should be concluded. Granted, the voice acting and animation of the anime ending were superb, but it doesn't give quite the full effect that the manga ending does. "

If your family hate anime and stoped your hobby (anime, comics)

2 years 5 months ago

"Back when DragonBall Z first came out in America, my parents thought it was an awful show. They forbade me from watching it or even visiting online sites about it. But I had a friend who watched it, and I couldn't just forget that I liked it, so we would discuss the series at school. I would sneak online sometimes to read about it, and I would watch it at a friend's house. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have done that. But as it turned out, my parents eventually realized that I wasn't going to stop liking it, and gradually they started letting me visit sites and buy the tapes for the series. To this day, they still don't understand or like anime, but they generally leave me alone about it as long as I don't obsess over it. So - I've run into that situation already, and the way I handled it was to be secretive about it. ;p "

What type of super hero do you prefer?

2 years 5 months ago

"I'm a huge anime fan, but I've never considered any anime characters to be "superheroes". Yes, Goku is a hero, but is he really a superhero? Not in the sense of the word as we've learned it, I think. Japanese animation is anime, not Amercian animation. By the same token, American comic book heroes are superheroes, not Japanese ones. That's just the way I've always heard it.

That being the case, I'm a Marvel fan. DC heroes are great, but I prefer the storylines of the Marvel characters. I like superheroes with real-life issues and responsibilites, which is why I prefer the troubles of Peter Parker more than the "perfect" image of Superman. As for how the stories should end, superhero stories were originally created to alleviate the stress of the real world - for example, Superman was an uplifting image during the Great Depression. So I think superhero stories should remain, overall, optimistic in nature."

Mahou Sensei Negima

2 years 5 months ago

"I watched the anime, and tried the manga, but I never really got into Mahou Sensei Negima. Actually, what bothers me the most about this series is that when I see the manga in stores, the books are always shrink-wrapped. Shrink-wrapped... it's a harem series, yes, but with a 10-year old boy. So why, of all the manga series available on shelves, is this series one of the few that are shrink-wrapped? "

[Anime Discussion] Claymore

2 years 5 months ago

"Claymore is more violent than your average action anime, but the art and plot are very interesting. I think my favorite aspect about this series is its refusal to stereotype its group of female fighters. They may be compared to the Sailor Scouts in that these women are fighting to protect humans, but the comparison ends there. In Claymore, we get the less explored typecast of highly intelligent girls who border on monsters themselves. The series is dark but very good if you like the genre. "

Anime fans' day. Should we have such kind of holiday?

2 years 5 months ago

"Haha, it would be fun, but it'll never happen. After all, we don't exactly have "Marvel/DC comics" days, or anything like that. As someone else mentioned, geeks get their kicks at conventions, whether you happen to like anime, Star Wars, Star Trek, or games. "

How are we supposed to affored anime?

2 years 5 months ago

"Nychi002 mentioned location in a broad sense, but it also matters on a smaller scale. For example, I live in the United States, and while DVDs were always expensive at Media Play, you could get them cheaper at Best Buy. I also learned to look for sales - I found Vision of Escaflowne and Outlaw Star (both are 26-episode series) available for only $33 for the entire series. That's not a bad price at all. Learn to find the cheapest stores and the best sales - that's pretty much your best option. Otherwise, yeah - anime isn't very cheap.

Wallpaper ratings

2 years 7 months ago

"Hey! I checked the FAQs and the stickied topic in this section, but I can't find the answer to this question. I apologize if it's been addressed somewhere else and I've missed it.

My question is: how do wallpapers earn ratings? I noticed that wallpapers can be given letter ratings (A, B, C, etc.) but I haven't been able to figure out how it works. Do users give ratings, or is it based on something else?

Again, I apologize if this has already been addressed. I've been trying to figure this out for about a week now but haven't found the answer.

Thanks!"
