This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"Well how about that. It seems that the problem was indeed my antivirus program. I disabled some components that seemed relevant, and now the "browse" button displays just fine. Thanks a bunch for all your help! I really appreciate it. =)"

"My security settings are set to medium-high; I turned them down to medium, but it had no effect. The antivirus program I'm using is McAfee, although I'm not sure what I might have to change there. I'm also unfamiliar with ajax... is there anything specific I can try?EDIT: I noticed an icon at the bottom (an exclamation point) that appears when I try to load that page (and this one). I'm not sure if it's relevant or not, but I took a snapshot just in case:

I'd be willing to try this ACDSee, although you'll have to let me know with the screenshot if it'll work. Thanks for trying to help me solve this!"

"I feel like there's an obvious answer to this question, but I've checked the FAQs and tried to simply wait it out, but with no luck. So here it is: when I go to edit my profile, I have only the "remove" button for an avatar and a signature. I've been unable to add either for a few weeks now. The problem started when I wanted to change my previous avatar. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks!"

Clannad Anime Discussion

"Clannad was definitely a series I thought I wouldn't like. I really hate harem anime. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, Okazaki is surrounded by girls, and he interacts with all of them, but the "every relationship has to be romantic!" plot that annoys me in other harem series wasn't present in this one. Instead, it was thoughtful and cute, and I found myself really enjoying the characters instead of being annoyed by them.I haven't seen Air or Kanon, and I don't really plan to, but perhaps I might look them up again since everyone seems to agree that they're so much better than Clannad."

Hating Orihime?
4 months 3 weeks ago
"Orihime frustrates me for several reasons. First, it would be a whole lot better if Kubo Tite wasn't simply repeating the "damsel-in-distress" plotline. It's really the same as the arc with Rukia, except instead of shinigami, this time Ichigo & Co. are battling the Arrancar. She was also initially frightened by Hollow Ichigo. Perhaps he did remind her of her brother, but like Nel pointed out, there's nothing to be afraid of - Ichigo's abilities were gained all for the sake of his friends. Of course the mask presents a bit of a risk, but worrying about it doesn't help her or Ichigo, especially since he won't surive his time in Hueco Mundo without it. In addition, the "martyr logic" she's using is faulty, since it's been proven that Ichigo is the kind of person who'd ignore all the risks to save a comrade. Realistically, Ichigo's up against impossible odds, but fortunately, we know they'll make it through somehow. Since they all went to Hueco Mundo anyway, Orihime agreeing to go first didn't really spare them any pain or inconvinience. I'll admit that Ulquiorra put her in a pretty tight spot, though, and that she chose what appeared to be the best option.I suppose I don't hate Orihime, but I am a bit annoyed with her. I haven't read the manga, but presumably her role will be more significant in later episodes. So far, Aizen has only occasionally made use of her incredible healing abilities. Right now, the anime is focused on preliminary battles, but I'm sure that once Ichigo and the gang get further along we'll see more plot development again all the uncertainties about Orihime and Aizen will be revealed. So I'm looking forward to it, and I'm guessing that any annoyances with Orihime will wear off. ;p"

A Kiss... Cheating or Not?
7 months 4 weeks ago
"Haha, I saw this thread on the main page and had to swing by to comment. To me, a kiss is a form of small-time commitment. It shows that you're serious about someone. So in my opinion, if you're in a relationship, you shouldn't be kissing other people. I'm sure not everyone feels strongly about it, but it's still a matter that could potentially cause great offense. "

What anime do you think needs another season?
1 year 2 months ago
"I have to agree with the Ouran consensus. As unlikely as it seems, I'd really like to see another season of that. I'd also like to see more Black Blood Brothers. For an interesting story like that, 12 episodes was just too short.I've heard Code Geass is getting another season. That's something I didn't see coming, though I'm glad to hear it. Also, I thought we were supposed to get a third season of Tsubasa Chronicle. Does anyone know if that's still the case?"

what do you think about death note ending (for people who already finished the anime)
1 year 2 months ago
"The ending was very powerful, but a little too "pretty". I haven't read the manga, but I've heard that Light loses all sense of pride and power and dies a miserable death. True, he dies in the anime, but they way they portray it, you almost feel a bit of regret at his death. Like Near said, Light is a mass murderer. He doesn't deserve a "pretty" end, and the harsher ending of the manga concludes the story just like it should be concluded. Granted, the voice acting and animation of the anime ending were superb, but it doesn't give quite the full effect that the manga ending does. "View
If your family hate anime and stoped your hobby (anime, comics)
1 year 2 months ago
"Back when DragonBall Z first came out in America, my parents thought it was an awful show. They forbade me from watching it or even visiting online sites about it. But I had a friend who watched it, and I couldn't just forget that I liked it, so we would discuss the series at school. I would sneak online sometimes to read about it, and I would watch it at a friend's house. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have done that. But as it turned out, my parents eventually realized that I wasn't going to stop liking it, and gradually they started letting me visit sites and buy the tapes for the series. To this day, they still don't understand or like anime, but they generally leave me alone about it as long as I don't obsess over it. So - I've run into that situation already, and the way I handled it was to be secretive about it. ;p "View
What type of super hero do you prefer?
1 year 2 months ago
"I'm a huge anime fan, but I've never considered any anime characters to be "superheroes". Yes, Goku is a hero, but is he really a superhero? Not in the sense of the word as we've learned it, I think. Japanese animation is anime, not Amercian animation. By the same token, American comic book heroes are superheroes, not Japanese ones. That's just the way I've always heard it.That being the case, I'm a Marvel fan. DC heroes are great, but I prefer the storylines of the Marvel characters. I like superheroes with real-life issues and responsibilites, which is why I prefer the troubles of Peter Parker more than the "perfect" image of Superman. As for how the stories should end, superhero stories were originally created to alleviate the stress of the real world - for example, Superman was an uplifting image during the Great Depression. So I think superhero stories should remain, overall, optimistic in nature."

Mahou Sensei Negima
1 year 2 months ago
"I watched the anime, and tried the manga, but I never really got into Mahou Sensei Negima. Actually, what bothers me the most about this series is that when I see the manga in stores, the books are always shrink-wrapped. Shrink-wrapped... it's a harem series, yes, but with a 10-year old boy. So why, of all the manga series available on shelves, is this series one of the few that are shrink-wrapped? "View
[Anime Discussion] Claymore
1 year 2 months ago
"Claymore is more violent than your average action anime, but the art and plot are very interesting. I think my favorite aspect about this series is its refusal to stereotype its group of female fighters. They may be compared to the Sailor Scouts in that these women are fighting to protect humans, but the comparison ends there. In Claymore, we get the less explored typecast of highly intelligent girls who border on monsters themselves. The series is dark but very good if you like the genre. "View
Anime fans' day. Should we have such kind of holiday?
1 year 2 months ago
"Haha, it would be fun, but it'll never happen. After all, we don't exactly have "Marvel/DC comics" days, or anything like that. As someone else mentioned, geeks get their kicks at conventions, whether you happen to like anime, Star Wars, Star Trek, or games. "View
How are we supposed to affored anime?
1 year 2 months ago
"Nychi002 mentioned location in a broad sense, but it also matters on a smaller scale. For example, I live in the United States, and while DVDs were always expensive at Media Play, you could get them cheaper at Best Buy. I also learned to look for sales - I found Vision of Escaflowne and Outlaw Star (both are 26-episode series) available for only $33 for the entire series. That's not a bad price at all. Learn to find the cheapest stores and the best sales - that's pretty much your best option. Otherwise, yeah - anime isn't very cheap."

Wallpaper ratings

"Hey! I checked the FAQs and the stickied topic in this section, but I can't find the answer to this question. I apologize if it's been addressed somewhere else and I've missed it.My question is: how do wallpapers earn ratings? I noticed that wallpapers can be given letter ratings (A, B, C, etc.) but I haven't been able to figure out how it works. Do users give ratings, or is it based on something else?
Again, I apologize if this has already been addressed. I've been trying to figure this out for about a week now but haven't found the answer.
Thanks!"

How do you choose your manga?
1 year 5 months ago
"Hmm... well, manga by authors I'm already familiar with is usually a plus. Manga I've heard about or have been recommended is one of the first things I look for. I also take a look at the art style and summary, of course. And these days, I check to make sure the manga isn't going to be super long - when I started buying Samurai Deeper Kyo, I didn't realize that now, at volume 21, I'd still be buying it. ;p But of course I want to finish it. That's the only reason I'm not buying Rurouni Kenshin. I'll just borrow it from a friend instead. Manga isn't cheap!"View
Pets!

"A Siberian Husky! That's exactly what I'd want if I had a dog, danichanx. But if I had to choose between a dog or a cat, I think I'd choose a cat first. I like cats for their size, and since I'm not as fond of small dogs, I would get a cat. The most we've ever had is gerbils because my mom and brother are allergic to bigger animals. I think when I'm on my own I might get a pet."View
Ouran Highschool Host Club
1 year 5 months ago
"I read the first chapter or two of the Ouran manga and I thought it was horrible. xD I thought it was the stupidest idea I'd ever heard. But when my anime club decided to watch the first episode, I realized that it was actually really, really funny. So I watched the rest of it, and I'm glad I did. I don't usually go for cutesy series, but Ouran was very well done. The soundtracks aren't bad, either. If I had to pick a favorite of the hosts... I guess it'd be the twins."

what do you think about bleach?
1 year 5 months ago
"Bleach is generic. I agree with Snotna on that one. But is generic necessarily bad? After all, the formula obviously works. No, it doesn't score a ton of points for originality, but it's still one of my favorite series. After all, it's not because it's an awful show that it's popular.I'll admit that I didn't like Bleach at first, though. After the first two episodes, I nearly quit watching. I guess I just didn't go with the idea of the Hollows. But I decided to keep watching, just in case, and then I got hooked. I guess one of the appeals is that Ichigo is simply more mature than Naruto. ;) And on that note, the Bleach fillers are much better than the Naruto fillers were. So yeah, I like it."

What Will You Do If You Have A Death Note Book?
1 year 5 months ago
"If I found a Death Note, my initial reaction would be just like Light's. I mean, who would honestly believe that you could kill people with a book? So I'd be skeptical at first. But curiosity would win out, of course, and I would eventually test the book just to prove to myself that nothing was going to happen. When someone ended up dying, I would probably panic and try to destroy it. I'm not the kind of person who believes that just because you have the power you have the right to use it. "View
