This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Is it possible to grow out of computer/console games?

2 years 1 month ago

"Well as we all (should) know, just about anything can become an addiction. Rather than talk about growing out of video games, I'd rather put it as growing out of (or overcoming) an addiction instead. I don't consider gaming something to "grow out of", as if it were some sort of shameful act for an adult to indulge in. VGs are an entertainment medium not unlike books/magazines, tv, movies and so on, featuring titles for people of all interests and ages. Spending sensible amounts of time ("sensible" varies according to different lifestyles, where some people have more free time than others) with any of the above is fine, and as long as your life priorities remain intact these things cannot harm you."

"What really bugs me is that same plasticy, glossy effect mentioned before that almost every "realistic" PS2 (and up) generation game seems to suffer from. Kalico probably hit it right on the head that they didn't get their learnin' from art school, and perhaps that's something that's going to have to change until we start seeing some real realism coming from our PCs/consoles."

"You know, gat, your constant attacks on God and religion, your attempts to point out how much of a farce you believe it all to be are just as futile, if not moreso than those who would try to convince you otherwise. There is no problem in being passionate about something, or even against something as long as those viable reasons are there to trigger that emotion, but geez, it's like you're on a crusade or something. You could give yourself a heart attack for nothing !:O

Would you act like this offline if the subject were to arise in conversation? Just out of interest.

I know alot of people who could go on for an eternity on this topic, some for it, some against. Does it not compute that other opinions and beliefs will exist irregardless and in spite of your own, and even if you do not respect them that you can still at least accept that they do exist, and aren't going anywhere? Debating any topic with no hope of any form of resolution just doesn't make any sense to me."

"My neighbour actually invited me to go with her tomorrow morning...politely declined. Like gat said, some people (myself included until recent years...) only go because they are forced to by family. These days I'll attend Easter and maybe one or two other occasions a year just to please the mother. At Christmas I'll willfully be present at midnight mass because I enjoy the warmth that comes from a full congregation singing hymns and carols for the season - Christmas in Barbados is different somehow.

My family is very much Christian (Anglican), and of course it's difficult to co-exist with people whose beliefs are so fervent, when my view on organized religion is cynical at best. I do believe in God, I do have faith in the existence of that higher power. I try not to refute others' views on religion, as it is such a complex creature. It's one of those things I will not question too deeply, lest I get caught in some convoluted web of parables, other biblical references, lectures on what you should or shouldn't believe etc. Believe what you want to believe, just don't try to convert Typo. Math

"Eh. Shopping? Exchange rates? Common sense can be learned without taking several years of torturous classes. I personally always hated math, started out very rocky with algebra, but then became disturbingly comfortable with it later on in high school. Even so, I've never been convinced that I couldn't have learned the essentials all the same without those classes. "

Detox clinic for video gamers.

"Yeah, we're so in need of one of these. Thanks to video games, the world is freakin' bound in chains. Games are the single-most lethal entity on the face of the Earth, we must save our youth at once!

Good Dr. Keith Bakker is wasting more time with his little clinic than your average youngster does playing games. Eh."

Food for thought

2 years 2 months ago

"There's nothing wrong with wanting a solid story in your RPGs, but it's always made sense to me to think more of RPGs as games first before story. The genre is deliberately made such that your random battles, mini games, weapon customization and other such gameplay features are the meat and potatoes to your storyline salad side. There will always be mass debates on RPG storylines, with a few individuals who always seem to expect too much out of this area. They don't want something decent, good, or great - they want Pulitzer Prize winners, a novel in a game, something so deep and technical that it will appeal to their infinite intellectual wisdom for decades to come. When your standards have been set so high by all the books you've been reading over the years, any RPG plot will seem like child's play. You've got yourself a problem.

I am not about to praise the general standard of writing in games these days, yet I simply don't find it worth complaining about either. We've already seen pretty much all we're going to see in terms of storyline templates and plot "twists" anyway, and I also don't see anything more than the same few gems that we get popping up occasionally occuring again in future. I figure that as long as gameplay keeps evolving (even if it's slowly but surely), we'll never be out of entertaining RPGs. For what it's worth, there will always be those occasional gems that will get everything right.

samurai - x

"I never did keep watching right down to the end since, as many have said before, after Shishio the whole thing just started on an unfortunate decline. There were a few gems in some of the post-Shishio eps though, namely some of the Shougo and Beni-Aoi scenes. None of these villans could ever live up to the Jupon Gatana, but I felt these eps were still pretty strong as fillers.

I've always admired the series (as well as the powerful OVA) for the emotions the characters portray, even within battle. I felt connected to each and every character because their every thought is explored in different ways throughout the series. It also helps that the soundtrack is simply amazing. I'm still trying to find someplace where I can download it. D:"

Worse RPG!!

2 years 2 months ago

"Vagrant Story happens to be one of my favourites. I've always wanted a sequel, even though sequels usually find a way to cheapen the original. A VS remake for PS2 or *gasp* PS3 would be great - unrealistic to expect, but still a dream for me. ":3"

Worse RPG!!

2 years 2 months ago

"Wild Arms 2. I'll admit that I didn't really give this title the fairest of trials, but after just a couple of battles into the game, I realized I couldn't possibly endure much more.

I take my battle systems very seriously, as you typically spend more time fighting and leveling up in RPGs than anything else, whether or not it's intentional. WA2 was far too slow-paced and clumsy for me, and although I'm not usually one to judge a game based on graphics, I was doubly turned off by the fact that everything in sight resembled something from out of a Lego Land set. Nyeh."

it's two different scans.

Ah, I must have gotten mixed up somewhere when reading your initial post. :x

I get what you mean about the presence of the text, but the current font just strikes me as somewhat out of place, a bit too orderly for an image depicting so much chaos. I had another idea just in case you find it interesting that might make for less intrusive typo: maybe have a little grungy [maybe you're sick of that word by now ?D:] "Appleseed"written on one of the guns? Who here watches one tree hill/ Smallville

2 years 2 months ago

"Yarg. We're like a month behind over here, so no season finale yet. Anyway, I'm a mark for villains. Gotta love good old Lionel. He's a perfect example of how money can be just as powerful and ubiquitous as any super power. ;o The same goes for Lex, but I've always seen him as more of a softie - too much philosophy, less ruthlessness. I found it hilarious how Lionel began to call Clark "son" after having his suspicions confirmed about his powers.

I've never read the comic, and really know little about the Superman back-story, but I have to admire how Smallville is slowly opening up to become more than just another hour-long young people's drama show."

"Yeah, this looks good as it is, but again I'm not sure if it would be accepted being that it's all from the same scan. In any case, Typo gives it a thumbs up...except the typo, something Typo ish very picky with .-. First thing that came to mind for me was, "wouldn't it be neat if a harder font was used, and had some bullet holes in it!?" But yeah, that's just Typo being Typo about typo."

My Second wall

"Hallo! I hope I can help a bit. :3

It all looks nice and tidy and sharp right now, but the background needs some more work. I first noticed that there's too much negative space to the right, making the background look rather plain. That long thin vertical line of cloud looks really out of place too. Maybe extend the sky (decrease its contrast a bit) and add some kind of lightning effect? Something powerful, like shaita suggested~ "

Nice pic.. not sure what tekken game thats from, but when tekken first came out, the game was really fun :)

Well, since the wall has the Tekken Tag Tournament logo pasted on it...

Anyway, I found TTT to be good enough, especially with a multi-tap for 4-player action. I'm not sure how they "wasted alot of potential" - I'd say that about Tekken 4, a Tekken that dared to deviate from series tradition, but got so much of it wrong. Different strokes for different folks, I guess."

Which is the best RPG for you?!

2 years 2 months ago

"I'm so glad games like Front Mission 3, Valkyrie Profile and Vagrant Story got mentions~! These games really don't get enough love. They're all unorthodox in their own way, so I suppose that difference in gameplay sways many a gamer the other way. I can't help but gush over RPGs that actually make you think (in terms of plot AND gameplay), and force some kind of tactical gameplay over your usual "let's go save the world (!) button masher."

Do You Still Watch Your First Anime?

2 years 2 months ago

"Akira was the first for me like some 10 or more years ago. I've only seen it once since. When they started showing DBZ and Sailor Moon on Cartoon Network, that was my way back into the world of anime, since in the Caribbean it's pretty difficult to get your hands on the stuff. I don't check for either series these days, but I'd tune in if they aired them again just for the sake of nostalgia. :x"
