I tried to give the characters more depth by having more pronounced shadows, increase the lineart of the hair, and had a a more realistic, yet blurred background.



This one has all the changes but keeps the original bg.



This one has all the changes like the one above but also has subtle light rays landing on the characters, and a more cyan tone.



Which do you people prefer?"

"Another Air Gear wall from me...

The art from the series is just so great I had to make another wall!

Interestingly enough the dimensions for a two page artwork is almost exactly the same proportions as a 1600 x1200 wall. Unfortunately, there wasnt a high quality scan of the piece i wanted and so had to make do with this.



This means I basically had to redo everything, while leaving some of the details but I dont think that was too detrimental.



As for the piece it has a very forest like concept so I tried to keep it with foliage colours. I had 50 + layers before I even got to the background, and while I did look for some quality forest canopy images, I found the lighting and distinctive realness often clashed with anime style art and colouring. In the end I settled for a more stylistic bg with the impression of a forest canopy. This built up the concept while complementing the characters.

So what do you think? Suggestions for improvements appreciated.

"Hmm...I dont know if i'm missing something, but I thought anime was really only okay...

I mean the gore is its selling factor, or what makes it stand out, but everything else was average to me. I didnt particularly relate to any of the characters, nor did i have any introspective moments questioning what is life and its meaning etc. The storyline is interesting but nothing special.

If you like gore your set, but if your not into it so much...then the other aspects a just average. The intro is good, though when people say its emotional is it the emotion you you get from the characters...or when the characters gets dismembered? "

" Okay, for this one I reduced the number of stars, the reason why I added more in the first place was to counter the the amount of stars aligned on the edge. Though I think ive done that know without having too much stars.

I also lowered the opacity on the mist behind the words "the Sky" and touched up the general look of the mist. I think Ive done most of the tweaking now..is ready to be submitted?

"Air Gear just has a lot of great elements mixed together to make a solid anime (or more likely manga). I appreciate the anime for introducing me to the world of Air Gear, but it does really pale in comparison to the manga. The action is awesome and the battles are very well drawn and detailed. The humor always manges to make me smile, if not laugh uncontrollably in my mind (seeing as I read it at uni).

The character design is great looking and refined (especially the women :D) and the use of perspectives is just beautiful, whether its just single character shots or in the midst of a heavy battle! I have to also mention how I like the fan service, because with the humor and sweet chrater design, its also an appealing factor. But its quality fan service (lol...is that an oxymoron?) trust me. I also like how they perfected the art of standing around with your hands in your pockets look so...BADASS! Especially when looking up into the sky ;)

For those of you who haven read the manga I suggest you do! If you're wondering If Ikki will ever get his 'wings', or about the mysterious legendary Eight Kings of the past Sleeping Forest, or the quest to reach the "top" of the Trophaeum Tower, Its all revealed in the manga, plus the never expected revelation afterwards. For an addicted Air Gear fan those chapters will leave you going, whaa?...why? why? why!? long after you have read it! I suggest starting around chapter 103, I think thats where the anime finishes off. So what are you waiting for?

"Thanks again for the feed back. I did spend a lot of time colouring and thinking what colours Ikki would wear, and how it could fit into a wallpaper. Thank you for noticing.



So for the next update, I changed the clusters of stars along the left edge of the wall, hoping they dont look too aligned this time. As for the misalignment of skin tones on Ikki's left arm, I I tried to keep the shadowing of Ikki's bicep more pronounced so thats why it didnt matche up. I changed it a little so it isnt so random this time, looking like a mistake ;D. I also had a go at belnding the clouds more into the bg so the change isnt too sudden.

What do you think? Is it getting better?

"Just wanted to show you my complete (?) wallie. After catching up to the latest Air Gear chapter, I felt I had to have its art on my desktop. As soon as I saw this scan: http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Air-Gear/item112590/ I knew I had to have a go colouring it in.

I've uploaded 3 versions. First is a clean one, the second has some textures put on Ikki's clothers and the wings and beak, the third has more of a violet tint to make it look more unison. I haven't done a lot of wallpapers so Im not sure as how to take it to the next level...

"Well just watched it, cam quality which was actually pretty good considering and subbed english.

Here are my thoughts, I'll try not to include any specific spoilers just my the general thoughts of the movie as a whole. The main difference in the movie to the original eps would probably be the revamp of Tokyo 3, the Evangelions and and the Angels. You can tell that where most of the budget when to in this one. The character design remains faithful to the series but the look a lot smother in colour and tone (as they should be) to meet with the modern animes.

One thing i missed was the comedic and subtle (conversational) interactions between the characters such as the ones with Shinji and his two soon to be best friends, as well as the light-hearted moment between Misato, Shinji and Ritsuko. Being only around 1 hour and 40 mins long they cut scenes which arent really essential to the main plot. Though there was a new scene they added between Misato and Shinji which I thought was nice and touching.

Another thing people will notice is the speeding up of the series storyline, having major revelations towards the end of the series already revealed. While the quality is decent for the majority of the film, it only suffered in the darker scenes which is somewhat of a shame since the final battles is at night. Even so, what stuck to my mind was the more drawn out, more detailed of that final battle. Obviously they pulled out the stops for that one. While not being able to fully appreciate the effects, and animation for that moment, it is a scene I look forward to seeing when a better quality is available.

Form there I foresee major changes happening in the following movies as they cut, condense and and new scenes and events. They will definately be missing whole Angel battles which is a shame, since many of the character developments are driven by them. So, while I'll miss the subtle character developments and interactions that occur over several eps in the series, I hope they dont simply leave out that aspect in the movies, compensating with direct if not more powerful singular moments.

So image quality aside it was a very decent movie, I have no regrets watching it. So with God in his heaven, all is right with world...so far."

"Well I think the chances for a secons season are slim. I like the feeling the show gave off too. Though if you want some more, like i did, I suggest reading the manga. The anime finished feeling incomplete, well simply because it was. Read the manga to continue on from where the anime left off!"

"Well I think bits of his father strength is shown in Naruto sometimes. I mean at the very beginning they did say he had a high chakkra stamina, and that was before he was put in life and death situations and forcing him to tap inot the nine-tail fox power.

Whenever he generates the swirling chakra (the blue one) around his body I think that is his own chakra, hence he father's power. The time where he versus Gara in the forest I believe that was his Fathers power which allowed him to make all those replications. I think...seeing as how it was blue."

"Well, it was released in Japan...in the theaters. I dont know if its even out on DVD there yet, unlikely. So aim guessing its very hard for subbers to get the source. So if you dont live in Japan, the only way to get footage is to get it from someone who went to the theaters and recorded on cam...seeing as how I dont think there was any leaks of the movie on to the net (though of course as if cam quality is ever worth watching).

So as it pains me to say, unfortunately no one will be subbing Evangelion most likely until the dvd comes out in Japan, for fans to go their and buy it and bring out of Japan. Also I dont think it'll be released onto shores off of Japan for a good while. Oh well..."

"The consistency of the animation quality is so over the place. While I do appreciate the OST and the anime openings and endings, there is not enough quality to keep watching. Especially since you know the story from the manga even more so if its a filler ep.

The only last good quality fight scene Ive seen was Icihigo first taking on Grimjaw. When they animate a quality of that standard someone tell me..."

"Well I have to agree at how their last album was more than a let down, all my firends who were into LP, didnt seem to appreciate Minutes to Midnite at all. Im all for them experimenting and changing but when I first read an article saying that they had pretty much lost all of the hip-hop sound I was a bit worried. I actually like how they meld the best parts of rock and hip-hop elements together with the lyrics one could relate to.

Lyrics personal enough to have meaning, but just abstract enough for many people to put themselves in and appreciate. Maybe their next album will have them move back to their roots."

Anyone here has stopped watching Bleach or Naruto?

"To be honest I dont think any of my friends (who are really into anime) watch Bleach or Naruto anymore. Theres nothing sadder than losing interest in an anime before its even finished. I'd rather have an anime finish leaving me wanting more, at least then you don't feel like you wasted your time.

Half of my friends who used to watch the anime still keep up with the manga. Though thats more part of the staple does of anime than those you would consider a treat."

Watching Anime:English or Japanese

"I always try to watch the original jap versions first. As for for preference generally its Japanese but it depends on an anime to anime basis. One example is Eureka 7, I saw bits of the english dub first and it was okay. No real problem. But when I heard the Jap version, Renton's voice was just so much better, totally spot on to the character. FMA eng dub was good, but still Ed and Al's voice in japanese is just better. For Cowboy Bebop I prefer Eng dub Spikes voice and dialogue suits him more in the eng vers. Also Wendy Lee is he best Faye Valentine you could ever get! GitS series eng dub, the Major's voice is just spot on aswell.

For story purposes though Subs for the original jap vers has less problems then english dub. There are alot of variables in translating the meaning and imapct of jap dialogue to a coherent english one while trying to match the lengths and cuts of scene. For example the speech Misato gives to Shinji before she dies in EoE loses at least 50% of the impact when spoken in english compared to reading it as subtitles...oh well."

"Short indeed but very high quality and enjoyable action scenes. The story is pretty straight-forward so i dont think anyone will be perplexed by trying to figure out some deeper meaning. if your bored and want a quick fix for some kickass action I recommend giving it a go."

feelings that evangelion inspired

"Its been years since Ive watched an ep of Evangelion but the first time watched it i couldnt get enough of it! Actually, if you dont watch the last 2eps of the series or the movie its very rewatchable. My friend only had eps 1-24 so with only those eps avaialble I was rewatching them for around the 4th time and noticed i wast really bored with it at all.

At first go you absorb the action and the main events, the second time you delve more into the charcater development. Third time you pick up the little scenes that have to do with the conspiracies and hidden agendas of Nerve, Seele etc. Of course this was still with the hope that the last two eps and the movies would "rectify' all the problems everyone had and the overall messesed up situation that was ep 24.

Of course once I saw the movie I realised that the characters werent on there way up, but ctaully tripping down a deep hole of "wtf-ness"?!?. It was then I had to have a little break from evangelion."

"Wow...thanks for the things you mentioned, to be honest I didnt think the paper would have so much issues.

Well first off, maybe I should have mentioned it before but background wasnt meant to be smoothed, I went for the texture feel. But does it really look that bad? As for the placement of the text well I was planning to have it sort of 'orbit' around the scan since thats that is the centerpiece, instead of say coming off the sides of the wallpaper or down the center.

hmm...for the "tacky" positioning do you have an idea of how it could be improved? Because It actually took a while and deciding at where to place the text lol...I need some outside input at possible other placements.

Finally, are you saying its better off with only either the scan or the red and black portrait. Wouldnt that take away substance from the wallpaper leaving a lot of empty space, im thinking that would be deemed too simple?

For the moment here's an earlier version without the texture in the background. I thinks its better with it there than without. Do you still think it has to go?

Anyway as before thanks for the comment, I guess Im gonna need a lot of feed back...
