This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"Permit me to call out the praises of Whotan (or Odin, is you prefer), the One-Eyed All Father! The Norse sure had some sweet ideas about their divinity! Betrayal, treachery, deceit, vengeance, warmongering, and open hostility towards their own worshipers . . . and I'm talking about the "good guys" here. Loki just didn't give a crap either way! He was too busy killing his siblings and getting poison dripped in his eyes by the World Snake.Odin embodied all of the principles of man's nature, not just the virtuous parts. He also was credited for creating possibly the coolest version of "heaven" ever. Valhalla! How cool is it to have your remains scooped up after a battle and getting taken to a giant valley were you fight all day and then get to feast with the people you killed all night! Women get their own Valhalla, too (so no nagging about how much mead you drank).
I observe one of their holidays to this day! Fogmoon occurs on November 1st (which conveniently became "All Saints Day"), and is an important day for a Norseman. If you are a man, you must drink your fallen companions into Valhalla. Those who did not die in battle must be sent there by incredibly drunken prayers (I can't make this up) and feasting "upon every beast" (which for my Ilkhan is pizza and burgers). Ten of my friends and I get together every Fogmoon and drink Honey Mead and beer together while our wives look on in distress (well, mine gets drunk, too).
See, kids! Religion can be fun! You just have to know what century to look at!

What manga has the best art?
2 years 8 months ago
"While I agree that Blame! Is pretty sweet, I have to give my little shout out to my man Junji Ito. Scary, creepy, and waaaay too detailed horror manga. It looks too nasty for words, and I think that kind of art deserves mention here. As far as pure "eye candy", CLAMP takes it. No question.Regards, Aaron"

Will you watch, if your favorite anime become a real film? Why yes or Why No?
2 years 8 months ago
"Live Action is terrible. Anime translates badly into live action, especially if it's a visually intense anime. If that is what you mean, them I would say "no" categorically. Zeriam was not bad as a live action, but the anime still pwnd it.If you mean a full-length anime movie, "heck yes!" is my reply. I would love to pay my hard-earned greenbacks for a good anime rather than watching a three-hour snooze fest about a giant monkey (just kidding about Kong, it was pretty good).

Buying Anime
2 years 8 months ago
"While I am not "rich", my wife and I do enjoy dual incomes, so the price of our monthly anime brushes $120 USD most of the time. Even if I do download a show before it syndicates, I make sure to purchase it when it does. My theory is that if you like a show, you should let them know by helping them feed their children. We try to only buy shows that we know we will watch and enjoy, since getting a series off the rack is a little risky. After you've bought all 6-8 discs and the special little box thing with the shirt or the little toy or whatever, you run the risk of seeing the dang thinpak thing four months later, which is a quarter of the price you paid for the series!I mean, come on! What is it with that? I am a devoted fan and spend months waiting and anticipating the next volume, carefully collecting each one and paying a premium for them, and some lazy jerk-dog gets to pay less and get them all at once? Yeesh! :headbash: *sigh*
So, in short, I think anime could be the best use of my money. I like to support my local anime store, but they sadly raise their prices constantly due to their business getting crushed by the mighty Best Buy a few blocks away. It's hard to pay 23.98 for something you can walk two minutes and get for 19.99. :ashamed:

Great Series, Poor Endings
2 years 8 months ago
"Evangelion. So awful. Please let me just support those who watched this as their first series (like me).So, so awful. So awful and bad and terrible. That man is evil. I rid myself of this series promptly, and have positively no idea why it is enjoying such a revival.
Berserk (see above) Were it not for the "outtakes", these discs would be used as coasters or made into a basket for my keys.
Myriad other series have perished before their time, in my opinion, but none were as bad as those mentioned for the total lack of concern for the enpathy they had developed over the course of the show. I would not be surprised if they were ghost-written by a despotic puppy-kicker named "Lord Destructor, Master of Tears".

Do Ghosts Exist?
2 years 8 months ago
"**Firmly placing stury helmet on head and taking a deep breath, Aaron ducks behind a tall stack of cinder blocks and says . . . **I think I have experienced too much in my life to believe in spooks of any sort. Old houses shift on their supports, drafts blow out candles, and cameras collect dust which makes pictures weird. The brain is a funny thing, and sometimes we see things based on chemisty, electrical impulses, and even sleep depravation that cause us to "see" things that to us are very much "real". Being a pragmatist-in-training, I would say without hesitation that our brains are our judge of reality, and therefore are indefatigatable and unimpeachable to ourselves. If you "saw" a ghost or a spirit, that's what you saw. Is it real . . . ? No.
*ducks behind the blocks again*
The main problem is that ghosts don't really do anything. If one or two ghosts actually exist, what is the reason that one or two million don't exist? And if they do, what are they doing during the day or when several people are looking? Why don't they show up during a press conference or a tennis match? Why don't they pop up when people gather together with the express purpose of finding them? Why would a person who was outgoing, lucid, happy, and kind in life suddenly become a chain-rattling freak that spooks little kids and floats around incognito? Why would a person who was violent, angry, and spiteful not appear to the fullest effect of his ability and scare the crap out of everyone? Simple. The ghosts are all in the mind of the person seeing them, and through careful description and the right lighting, others can see them, too.
By the way, I was a Ghost Tour Guide for a year in Charleston, South Carolina (one of the most "haunted" cities in America). Sorry, folks. All we did was take people's money to show them around. I feel dirty having done it.
Here's to hoping this vindicates someone.

Groups:Do you really join?
2 years 8 months ago
"Well, I'm a n00b, so I can't really say that I "do" anything, but I can chip in on what my intentions are with a group. I'd like to see what the group members are like in the forum ("senpai" class excluded, since that is invite only for obvious reasons) and decide with whom I would like to associate with on a more regular basis. Kinda like picking a club in middle school. If I ever have the honor of being personally invited to a group, I would do my best to merit such a special nod. Otherwise, it would largely be a matter of focusing my attention in a different direction.A group that was "dormant" would be a sad sight for me, as I would probably inadvertantly "spam" in an effort to save it.

People who dont like anime
2 years 8 months ago
"*snicker* They're . . . not entitled to their own opinion. I think we have been kind to the non-anime people for far to long! NOW IS THE TIME TO RISE UP AND TEACH THEM . . . *ahem* :lol:Seriously though, people in the U.S. are like that, too. Who gives a hoot? I'm sure there are a majority of people in every country (with the obvious exception of Japan) who think that Anime is childish and for kids and whatever. Some people also believe in Bigfoot and think that the moon landing was staged. These people are a little unbalanced and need to check their facts. It's all the same tomfoolery. Stay strong, stay strong.
Besdies, what's wrong with being a kid? ^_^;

"Hmm . . .favorite . . . I suppose that would be Read or Die, if I had to make a choice. I am also fond of Gunsliger Girl, and just about anything that contains a large amount of controlled explosions and pensive conversation.I can also enjoy a good high school drama, which is my wife's favorite.
My skills are vastly inferior to most of those here, but under a friend's expert tutilage (insists I must purchase a Mac to continue my training properly), I hope to soon be promoted to active duty. I have learned a lot and seen some great talent in this community, and I will be proud to contribute (more than windy comments) soon!
Be speaking with you often!

Count of Monte Cristo
2 years 9 months ago
"Did someone say . . . The Count of Monte Cristo?!?Yeah, the visual effects are a little extreme, and I thought I wouldn't like it as a result. However, IMHO, it's like modern art . . . sometimes it must be endured for the purpose of seeing through the artist's eyes. As far as following the book, thank gawd it doesn't! The book is DEPRESSING! It's a good story, and the premise is solid, so taking out some of the less lucid elements is good medicine.
Again, for the purposes of making a sweet anime, I think it is ahead of its time. Imagine if our world becomes this some day! ¬_¬

Used to be a Pokemon fan? =P
2 years 9 months ago
"Are you kidding? Pokemon was the only anime on TV in the town I went to college in. I was obsessed in secret until I found out my future wife was also a big fan. We watched it together until they started showing it on Saturdays. It sort of blew up into some nasty weird 4,000,000 episode series, and the interest died quickly. Never saw the movies, to our credit. Not ashamed to admit . . . we were once Pokemon fans."

cartoons or anime?
2 years 9 months ago
"Holy thread! :lol:Just to add a laugh for someone reading this far . . . If I go to my brother-in-law's house on Saturday, I wish I had brought my anime so his kids would stop watching all those mind-bending, insane, epilepsy inducing cartoons! However, the line is a little more blurred now, considering so many anime series on US TV are kid's shows.
For me, it's all semantics. I cherish my "anime", and I tolerate my not-so-otaku friends calling it "cartoons". As long as they remember the awesome story and refined quality of the individual shows . . . more money in the pockets of these artists!
