No no no, thats a good idea, something that you will learn with making wallpapers as you get better is to use Layers effectively, and what you suggested is a very good idea, I might try that in my next version.

Experment with Layers, they can be very VERY effective, some general tips I can give you (In Photoshop anyways) is when you're doing any kind of brush work, use a seperate layer for every kind of brush you use. When you want to improve the color quality of scans, try duplicating layers and setting the layer blending from "Normal" to Overlay, Soft Light, Hard Light, Darken, or Multiply."

"Being a Military dependant (my father is a Canadian serviceman, 25 years, any cracks about our military and I'll smack you a new one), and I don't know, this seems in bad taste to me.

If I were to have done it, I would have shown the positive side of what the military does (Civil aid, peacekeeping, generally helping people). You ask any soldier who's been overseas, and they'd agree with me.

One of the most cherished photos I have of my father is him playing with Childeran in a Bosnian refugee camp on playground equipment that his unit built."

PNG files in the Scan Gallery

"Several places I go too allow the upload of PNG files to their scan gallery so that members who want to, can upload Fully extracted images in full quality.

PNG (Portable Network Graphic), like the Gif (Graphics Interchange format, which was pioneered by the peeps from Playboy so our friend Heff could put Playboy online, what a guy), can have Transparency. obviously, This could be a real help to Wallpaper artists who are not as strong at Extracting as others.

ofcourse, for this to work, the person would have to save the file in a PNG format, and make sure that there is no Background layer, The extraction would have to be well done, and the image would have to follow the AP scan guidelines already in place.

To go along with this, you could charge more papers to download a PNG scan versus a regular scan.

Known bugs with PNG files:

In internet explorer, transparent png files look like they have a light grey Background, that is a Browser bug and does not affect the image.

PNG files are large, a PNG file that is 1200 pixels high is around 1 mb, while a JPG scan of that size is half that, but concidering that scans in the gallery are sometimes larger then 1mb, this shouldn't be a problem.

You wanted the bg blurred to create a sense of depth.. You dont really have one because of the character's shadowing.. Look at the umbrella.. That shadow comes out of nowhere... What you should do is do a lighting effect on the bg as well...


Actually, concidering that the light its coming from the upper left hand side of the wallpaper, the shadow is in the right place.

As for the tree not being the right colors, I hate to burst your bubble, but Cherry blossoms are a light pink, like in the image.

Ever considered Sakura petals floating around in the background?


Yes, I did, I tried about 7 or 8 different brushes, but I couldn't get it to look right with the background.

I'd suggest you take out the text. The text is the major killer of this beautiful wall...it just doesn't match at all X_x


I'll take that into concideration.

I do have plans to add a "Canvas" texture to the background image to help "Flatten" it so that fits more with scan.

"The background is supposed to look blurry, it covers up the fact that its a picture of a real sakura tree.

And I don't see where you're coming from with the extraction, Any particular place where it needs work, cause I went over that image at 600 percent and fixed it by hand after I did the initial exraction.

And if you look at the original file (Its an AP Scan http://www.animepaper.net/scans/Ai-Yori-Aoshi/entry16425/ ), I don't see any problems.

Minimum Character Count for comments

"If you're like me, Two word comments annoy the hell out of you, on my walls, its getting to the point that one out of every five comments are worthwile to read, and the rest are "Nice Wall" and "OMFG Kawaiiz0r!111" blah blah blah... newho, you know where I'm getting at.

My suggestion is to simply put a minimum character length on Comments, say... 50 to a 100 characters, there by forcing people to actually think about what they are commenting on, and not spamming peoples wallpapers that they put a good chunk of their free time into for papers."

And yes that sig is kinda long...it's very distracting. I spent more time looking at the sig than the rest of the wall.


I have a long sig because if this wallpaper is posted on a site other then those listed, then its a wallpaper rip, its that long to protect my work. that and if someone trys to remove it, they can't, cause it covers up to much of the bottom of the wallpaper.

Also, unless you're a mac user, the sig is covered up by the taskbar anyways."

"The image quality and extraction on the character need alot of work, and I think having the "Scan lines" accross the characters mouth ruins the wallpaper IMO, move it down a bit mabey?

"Made this last night, I'm not as satisfied with it as I had hoped (Had problems with the scan of Natsuki), just wanted to run it by here before I submit it to the gallery

The name is a work in progress, I just can't think of a right name for this one, any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

This wallpaper was not saved a full quality so that it meets the 250kb file size limit on Photobucket, the one submitted to the gallery will be saved at full quality.
