As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!

What programs do you use for graphics and website making?
4 years 1 month ago
"(Not sure if you still need answers, but just incase as your talk is on Wednesday)I use Adobe Photoshop CS or CS 2 (depending on which computer I'm at) for all my design. I use Adobe Illustrator a little more now that I've figured it out. However, straying away from Adobe - I can't stand GoLive and try to avoid using it if possible for coding.
For web coding (php, html, xhtml) I use Notepad or Dreamweaver. If it's complicated, I lean towards Dreamweaver, especially if I'm re-coding someone else's work. Less chance of making mistakes. For CSS, I generally use notepad exclusively, because Dreamweaver doesn't really add too much to helping with that. "

OCTOBER '05 RELEASE DISCUSSION
4 years 1 month ago
"Looking through the other thread, there doesn't seem to be much to be excited about. Probably because several are sequals and I never saw the originals.Mai-Otome is the only one I'm definatly downloading. Hopefully it'll be just as interesting as Mai-HiME even if it's missing a few key aspects (and characters T_T) of the original series.
Was To Heart TV 1 any good? I adored the OVA, but heard mixed reviews about the TV and decided not to check it out.
Mushishi - The description is interesting... in some aspects. It seems like one of those shows that can either be really good and take you by suprise, or way too out there and be a flop.
Otherwise, I'm not too sure, this series seems to be lacking in the anime I generally watch. Although there are a couple other titles that may prove to be interesting like Paradise Kiss (I haven't read the manga, but I have a few friends that adore it).
I am going to miss Honey and Clover."

Evolution VS Intelligent Design
4 years 2 months ago
"ID can't be proven, as you said, as well as it is not testable - which is the key. It isn't falsifiable (a proposition or theory cannot be scientific if it does not admit the possibility of it being false) and that is even admitted by a supporter of ID. Evolution is falsifiable, which is why it's accepted as a scientific theory and is testable. As far as your previous comments, I'm really not sure how ID is even supported mathematically.
However, I would love to see actual support (as in not people saying it's the real deal) for ID. I haven't been able to find anything perousing the web. Everything I've found has had fairly solid arguments against it. Publications, peer-reviewed are necessary, especially in the scientific world.
ID generally referrs to some super intelligent being that controls what happens (be it the pyramids, stonehenge, etc.), however it has been adopted by christians and that may essentially be it's downfall. But, even if a super intelligent being did exist... how did they come to exist? Granted, you can argue on the other side and ask how did atoms come to exist and form the universe as we know it today? Even through asking those two questions, even though they can't be answered, I'm more apt to believe natural selection over ID as the super intelligent being had to come from somewhere.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_design
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evidence_of_evolution
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monsterism (just because)
(and, I did look at a bunch of other websites ^_^)
Evolution is supported through the fossil record, DNA, amongst other methods. (I'd expand more but I really should get back to reading peer-reviewed literature for class, perhaps later)"

"While it did hit south florida as a category 1, I was definatly afraid that it would do a sharper turn and come for north florida. As selfish as it is I'm glad it didn't since that's where I am right now. x_x 2 last year was enough for me.
Hopefully the damage is less than expected (although, there is definatly damage of things that they weren't expecting - levees, superdome) and the death toll doesn't go up much more."

Evolution
4 years 3 months ago
"Are you saying humans are the only species on the entire earth that have intelligence? Apes don't have intelligence? They seem pretty intelligent to me. Their ancestors may have had less intelligence, their ancestors may have had less and so forth. Think of it as a backwards cascading affect. In the end we're all made of cells. If you look back, there's single celled organisms, then a cell with another cell inside of it - mitochondria so on and so forth.
Elephants have self-consciousness. They know when they come up on the bones of another elephant. They act sad and turn the bones over with their trunks. Do they do that for bones of other species? No. How do they know? Why do they act like that?
Let's turn this around and do the exact same thing you just did:
Please prove Creationalism to me. I would like to see hard evidence. Then and only then will I leave evolution behind. But - all you can provide me with is a book. A book that some are thinking twice about because they're asking questions about it "who wrote it?" "why doesn't this make sense?" How come all these people lived to be 900+ years have tons of kids, yet we can't survive to 100 for the most part without the aid of medicine.
Really, it seems like you're a kid who's taking a class that's teaching you evolution and you refuse to even try to understand what it really means. Keeping an open mind as tate said will help you. You'll be able to see things around you on either side and actually form arguements that make sense. Not being able to even accept, scratch that, understand other things will hinder you as you won't be able to have a civilized conversation about anything.
Want me to admit evolution is flawed. Ok, fine. Happy? It's a theory! But ANY theory is inheritantly flawed. Creationalism is as imagineer pointed out.
Uh... how did the aliens get there? Funny, that's nowhere in the bible. (sorry, just had to ^_^)"

"Wow, how did I miss this thread?Hi. I'm Amai and I'm a biologist. Oh wait, I also have a high respect for religion. Shocking eh?
Not necessarily. It could have been an isolated population that evolved into our ancestors. The theory doesn't specify that ALL of a species evolves into another, it's just a sub-population. It may have been the particular apes that had the disorder that evolved into our ancestors.
Uh, what? That makes no sense. There were wars and other hardships prior to the Darwinian theory. You can't accuse the introduction of Darwinian theory into the public school system of being the cause of what's going on today. There's alot more factors that affect that. Origin of Species was published in 1859. That's almost 150 years ago. The stuff you're accusing it of causing should have then started happening earlier. Much much earlier.
In all honesty all of these things are theories. They are meant to be pulled apart, looked at and put back together again in a different way. Creationalism is also a theory. We can't be certain of what happened. I believe in the theory of evolution. Why? Because there is more proof than there compared to creationalism. It makes sense to me. I've argued this point every which way. However, I don't knock people who believe creationalism is the one and only truth. (I just get annoyed as they are often ones with closed minds and don't accept any arguement other than their own "

"Ah, you don't need a grunge style, the style you used is fine as is (at least I think so XD)You said his thoughts are all compacted on top of each other, why not compact the text more the phrases are way too far apart to go for the impact you're looking for. The text was compacted in the first version, but it was spaced equally. Maybe compact some of it, and space the last couple phrases out further from the rest. If that makes any sense at all."

abortion
4 years 4 months ago
"I am strongly pro-choice. Answering Wirhe's questions, they become life when born. I'm not for abortion after a certain amount of time (second trimester +).Rape. Full choice. Heck, it wasn't the females fault.
Having unprotected sex, yes, it's stupid, but there's usually reasoning behind it. Kids may not be educated enough to realize what they are doing and what the repercussions can be. Don't schools allow parents to pull their kids out of sex education classes? These kids could be the same ones that haven't learned what happens.
A 14 year old having a child more often than not destroys both her life and her childs. She's not ready to have a child, she can't support it on her own, can't finish school to get the education needed to support it. The dad could be long gone and her parents might not support her. There's so many things that can be against a young mom.
Adoption is always an option, but you have to find someone that will take care of the child. There's alot of children in orphanages already though that would love to have a family."

Anyways, the best place to look for series that are being translated is http://www.manganews.net/ . They list where you can find nearly all the series that are being scanlated that are not licensed. It's actually a database of most manga titles, there will be some that have no information and others that will tell you what is and isn't licensed."

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

"Tsubasa technically is a shonen (for boys) series, so that's no suprise. ^_^
I still prefer the manga over the anime by alot. I'm still bothered by how much energy Sakura has - it makes no sense, in the manga she kept falling asleep at random times and in the first couple worlds she was just there!! There are a few parts in the anime where they go into more depth than the manga did, eg. Chun yan's world with her mom which was neat. "

o-o Yakitate Japan = bread
4 years 5 months ago
"I started reading Yaki!pan about a year and a half ago at the poking of one of my friends. Yeah, ok, a manga about bread, no way it can be good. Since then I've been getting as many as my friends to read or watch it as possible. One's being stubborn though. It's great. There's tons of off the wall comedy in it. I often refer to it as a spoof of sports anime/manga and iron chef. Definatly worth checking out if you want to get into something that isn't filled with drama and mechs. Oh wait. There's a chapter with mechs in it. So... ignore that last part XD.
The only bad thing about the series - it makes you hungry for bread."

"Tsubasa includes characters that look like characters from their past stories. So... there's a version of Chi, several characters from X, CCS, Clamp Campus Detectives, Rayearth, etc. xxxholic doesn't pull many characters so far. Just when the characters from Tsubasa (Tsubasa, CCS, Rayearth) stop by and with Mokona (Rayearth) and Clow (CCS).If you want to get the most out of Tsubasa and xxxholic I'd recommend reading their other manga, just so you know the other characters that show up. But - it isn't necessary. They don't link up like xxxholic and Tsubasa do. I like knowing about CLAMP's other stories and how they fit in Tsubasa just because it's interesting to me."
