This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"I loved this film. One of my favorites from Miyazaki - if not my favorite. I went in with really no expectations and the only thing I knew of it was that Ebert didn't really like it and I thought Howl was a girl >_<It is very fantasy based - so if that isn't your cup of tea, then you won't enjoy it as much. As with all Miyazaki films the animation is beautiful. The english dub was really well done, so no disapointments there! I'm actually looking to order the book (or borrow it from someone who's ordering it) so I can see how much it follows or adapts the original story. "

Does your friends watch anime?

"Most of my friends watch anime. Heck, most of my close friends from high school discovered anime separate from me so we now have more to talk about when we visit. Many of my close friends in FL I met through an anime community for FL. I eat dinner and watch anime at least a couple times a week with the two friends that I live with. XD"

Which manga company do you like the most?
3 years 1 month ago
"I am finding I like Del-Rey's translations the best. Actually bought a manga that I hadn't read anything about just because they translated it. (and it was good!)Viz... their earlier stuff is riddled with spelling mistakes. Their newer stuff seems to be better though. But I actually buy very few of their series, the only one that I actually buy is Hana-Kimi. And they screwed up names etc. in that too!
Tokyopop is another favorite of mine, they do a decent job of translating. They've learned to stick to one thing that they're good at, although - they screw up the anime that they release.
ADV is ok... depending on the series, unfortunatly they took too much on and the lesser-known series are suffering. Damnit! I want more Sweet and Sensitive! They also (saddly) try to make the manga more americanized - Osaka and her meatball sandwich in azudai? -_-
I haven't read any of CMX's releases, but I did look at some volumes in the store and... I really didn't like how the book was bound. Maybe it's just me :/"

How do you make users participate in your forums?
3 years 1 month ago
"Yeah... that's not the best way to get people to participate in forums. So... don't do that.
Definatly more specific interest. There's plenty of general forums out there. If you focus on something specific you can get more visitors and decent posts. Most prefer specific forums for their posting needs. Eg. AP - walls, AoD - anime dvds; etc.
Look at what forums you're active on, and what helps them be active. I'm semi-active here, and really active at another site that is specifically for anime fans in Florida to get together and hang out. Both have a set focus that keeps me coming back. General sites get boring after awhile."

"I loved the penguins, they were my favorite part(s).The jokes were far from corny which was a relief as shows that are geared towards family are notorious for having.
There will now be a whole new generation of kids walking around singing "I wanna move it move it..." Not sure if that's a good thing. O.o"

Anime & manga piracy...
3 years 2 months ago
"Give it to another friend XDThe easiest way to tell if a series is pirated is:
A) read the back - if it says chinese subtitles on it anywhere, it's a bootleg.
B) number of disks. A normal 26 episode show is 6 disks (exception is Fruits Basket which is 4). If there's 3 disks, bootleg.
C) price. A legit dvd normally costs between $20-$30 with no extras like shirts, places like best buy often sell them for lower, but then, if you're shopping there, you know it's legit. Your local comic book store will almost always sell dvds for msrp: $29.99. If you can get an entire series for $10/$20... stay away.
D) Region-free, Region-zero, etc. Anything that has a region that isn't yours, is likely bootleg. Exceptions: Funimation disks are for regions 1,2 and 4. Some CPM disks are Region 0."

Anime & manga piracy...

"The local comic book stores carry alot of bootlegs, especially cds. It's always a big thing when we actually find a legit cd, even though they're starting to come out in the US more, the store isn't picking them up. -_-I go around teaching new members of the club I'm in about bootlegs, so they actually know what is what before they buy them and get screwed by a crappy bootleg.
At least most of the merchandise is legit."

sound fx in manga....
3 years 2 months ago
"I go back and forth. Viz is one of the only companies that actually translates the sound effects in panel, so you can't get the original, you just have to take their word for it. Sometimes it makes no sense. They put the english 'equivelant' in and while we might have one sound effect for something, the same sound may have 5 different sound effects for different types. (erm, does that make sense?)I do like it when they translate them in the back, like a glossary. I can practice sound effects that way!
So I like either, generally preferring the original sound effect."

"It's not really fun in the beginning, especially with all the new people playing, but once you get to around level 25 it starts picking up. That's when the majority of the players kind of know what they're doing... and don't die every 5 minutes because they forget to heal."View

what do you guys and gals prefer, dubbed versions or subbed?
3 years 2 months ago
"I generally stick to subs, although there are series where I'll watch the dubs, especially if the characters talk alot or if there's a ton going on. (Excel Saga, Abenobashi)Generally I stay away from dubs because the voice actors don't seem to capture the characters properly (and some pronounce names wrong and that really bothers me).
I do try out the dubs when I can, just incase it's good.
However, if you watch the dubs of some shows, you can't hear Tomokazu Seki being all awesome in the sub."

Korean manhwa
3 years 2 months ago
"I've only read a few manhwa, one being Ragnarok, which I couldn't really get into. But, I picked up Sweet and Sensitive and Couple and enjoyed both of them alot. Both just regular stories, no magic, no gender-bending XD, just HS/College everyday stuff. Which is nice since most of the manga I read has some curse preventing something, unrealistic plot (but still good!), etc."

Where do you from ?
3 years 2 months ago
"They really don't. But, watch what you say, I swore I'd never live in Florida, and... look at where I am now. >_< Darn job and it's appeal.
I was born and raised in New York - not the city, a little cow town about 2 hours north. Just the furthest extent to which all the people that lived in the city had their second house. So we got alot of weekenders. The closest mall was about 45 minutes away, so there wasn't much to do. Got my degree in Syracuse, and then moved to Florida for a job and start my master's.
Once I get my master's I'm going to try my best to move away from Florida. It's scary here @_@, I never knew how much I loved NY until I moved away. But, not sure if I want to move back there. Guess I'll go where my next job takes me (which hopefully is an awesome place and permanent) XD."

Anime that stayed faithful to their Manga roots
3 years 2 months ago
"Kare Kano was actually pretty true to the manga. It just ended at a point in the manga, and that was it. If you pick up... volume 8 I think, you can jump right back into the story.Fruits Basket was and wasn't, it jumbled up stuff, left a bit out and changed the end.
Yakitate!!Japan, is really close to the manga, so much so I've stopped watching it regularly and just watching the episodes I found highly amusing in the manga. XD"

"I worked a bunch on mine last night - http://amai.animepaper.net/ but still must play a bit with borders and those extra divs that Bantam just added!Just a suggestion - on the messages page, instead of using mainbody for the p tags on the headers (general messages, private messages, etc.) could you change that to a new tag? Add that tag to the tables on the forum too, it looks too plain with just mainbody as the tag. "

"They'll answer all those questions in the next episode XD, it's really important to the series.Just finished watching the series the other day. It was alot better than I thought it would be. I had seen the first few episodes but didn't get into it until episode 7 or 8.
The one thing that's really neat though is the CHILDs are based on different legends. Kiyohime for example plays out exactly like in her legend. Even down to the bell. http://www.theserenedragon.net/Tales/japan-anchin.html "
