"I haven't read Mars and Hot Gimmick, but I've heard really good things about Mars.Imadoki! is great though, only 5 volumes - the 5th one comes out March 15th.Another cute one, that is manwha is Sweet and Sensitive. Relatively unknown from what I've seen, picked it up on a whim and absolutly loved it. The first two volumes are out of that, the third one is coming soon."

Bugs went into space with no problems when he visted Marvin the Martian.The original was great because it was good enough for kids, and many jokes went over their heads as far as the true meaning. How do YOU support your anime habits?

"Before, when I worked full time, I supported my anime habit. Now, that I'm a grad student, I can't afford to buy anime because I'm hoarding all my money for food and manga. My parents would never buy me anything anime-related. If I told them what to buy, they'd probably mess it up XD.So, most of my anime comes from downloading unlicensed series or renting the dvds @ the comic store around the corner."

Fansubs

"For all it comes down to ebay will probably be a major player in the death of <i>mainstream</i> fansubs. They really need to implement a better system for catching things like that. Everytime I see one I wish there was a button to push to even suspend the auction. There's way too many up to go about the regular method of reporting because most are buy-it-now and disappear before ebay can get to them.Fans that have been around for a while know that fansubs are free and ebay is not the place to get them. Most of them were around when vhs was the only way to get subs. Buy tapes, send into subber with SASE, get back tapes with fansubs on them. Sad to see that the sellers on ebay are taking advantage of the newbie population who think they're getting a deal. There's gotta be a way to inform the masses of this! Or get those kids with dial-up some friends with dsl connections and a cd burner."

"There are alot of older shows that may never come over here. Hime-chan's Ribbon is one that I will be surpised if it came over. Fansubs are ideal for these shows as there is virtually no other way to see them. It could even up the demand for an older show and get a company interested in bringing it over. (older shows are often cheaper as well) Flame of Recca was brought over by Viz, most likely by prodding by fans. Not to mention it's pretty good. <!--emo&^_^--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='happy.gif' /><!--endemo-->Some anime comes over without ever being subbed. And, IMO, if they don't do very good advertising (which is usually the case) the DVDs won't sell as well as, say a show that was subbed for at least the first half before being announced as licensed. Word of mouth is the best way for shows to get bought, and fansubs are a great way to provide that."

"The import DVDs you're buying come from companies that more often than not do not license the anime. Therefore they can have lower prices because they don't pay anyone for it. Japanese disks are often between $40-$60 each with 1-3 episodes. If you know where to look, watch for deals, etc. you can get many dvds for $15-$20. And getting those prices isn't that hard.Back on topic, I like fansubs as I can try a show out before I buy. Although, there's a comic store right around the corner that rents anime dvds so if I missed the fansubs, I can just rent. There's plenty of shows I would like to buy, but I just can't afford it. Once I can they'll be added to my collection. I also like it when they use different colors besides the classic yellow. That gets annoying after awhile. Whoever subbed Princess Tutu did a great job with colors. Air has colorful subtitles too."
