This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Marcella, if you're older that's just the reaction you can expect from your parents. They think it's okay for a xx-year-old to do such things but a older person should know better. That doesn't mean they love you less ;)

MarceLLa if your older then thats just the way it is.if u've done nothing wrong to ake them hate you then y would they?if your older then they know you can handle the situation

It was very clear from what I said earlier. That is concrete proof that they love her more than they wil ever love me. Hopefully they won't coz thinking of that creeps me out.

I threw a water bottle at my sis coz she threw my mp3. Before that she hit my arm yet my parents said nothing. And when she threw the mp3 they said nothing. I cried (fake but convincing) when she threw it. But when I threw the bottle they exploded.

Longest time without sleep...

2 weeks 6 days ago

" My record would be somewhere around 2 days, though I could go for longer if I cared to (though it would be inane and ridiculous to try, given the detrimental effects it has on your physical and mental well being). Basically my reason was similar to what others have described: I had a major project which wasn't quite finished and needed an all-nigher in order to polish it off. My particular experience started when I awoke one day at 4:30 and spent several hours working on the project, headed off to classes, came home and worked all evening and night on the same project, and then spent the next day at more classes, taking notes in a dazed, automatic fashion. This culminated in me arriving home in a zombie-like state where I somehow decided that playing computer games until 2 o'clock would be a good way to reward myself for my heroic efforts, which finally ended with me crashing into bed, asleep upon impact. Luckily for me, that was a Friday, and so most of Saturday morning was spent catching up on sleep. I again advise that you never do this except in the utmost dire need, as it is definitely not good for you.

"Ditto to the above comment, they are quite good, and they should have faces. Very nice work, and you should definitely link some more of your works on this page :)

Question: what did you use to draw these pictures again? You mentioned glitter glue, but what else where you using, pastels, or ... pencil crayons? Its a bit difficult to tell, and I am most curious.

C2

UPDATE: I took a look at the new images you posted, and I like them even better than the original pictures you posted; the first 5 you showed us where very good, but were more mono-colored (plus they were all dresses, which is fine, but they get similar after a while), and the latest pictures show much more detail and variety of clothing. In retrospect, I realize that adding faces would distract from the clothing; however, if you are drawing the pictures to show off the clothes AND make the images appear completed, filling in faces would be a nice touch, and with you obvious talents, you should have no problem with doing so. Keep up the great work, and don't hesitate to continue showing us your progress."

Guess that about sums things up... and if your original post was sarcasm, LenasLover, I am sorry to say it wasn't all that detectable. Sometimes tone of thought does not perfectly translate into print... and in truth, I was probably a bit bored too, when I first started my response, though the more I typed the more interested I became in making a good response. Sometimes things go that way.

" You must be rather bored to post a topic such as this, in my most humble opinion. After conducting a bit of research, and also following the wikipedia link posted by kyuri, it can be concluded that the safety risks involved with the Large Hadron Collider are for all intents and purposes, nonexistent.

One the one side we have the media. We know the media loves to write controversial and/or provactive stories, and that, if they lack such stories, they will exaggerate existing stories to attract more readers. On the other hand, we have multiple panel reviews by highly qualified physicists, all of which conclude that the risks entailed by activating the Large Hadron Collider are minimal. These physicists have no reasons to be lying. It makes no sense to think that they have something to cover up. Supposing that there was a serious safety problem which they knew about yet did not expose, these physicists would be just as much dead as you or I, if the hypothetical "strangelet" particles really did turn our world into a black hole! I can't imagine any "dark moles" benefiting in any way monetarily or otherwise from the imploding of our planet, can you?!

In light of this line of thought, it is safe to assume that we will all be very much alive tomorrow morning when we awake. If for some reason one of us does not arise, it will be because of a very different cause: murder, starvation, disease, or old age. There are many other problems that we humans create all by ourselves that are far more relevant and pressing issues than the activation of the Large Hadron Collider. I suggest if you truly are concerned about global issues, focus on one of these other problems instead, rather than inciting an unneeded and harmful panic. ( []-[])9 emoticon"

Cowboy Bebop: Possibly the Saddest Anime Ending Ever?

6 months 2 weeks ago

"Well, I'm on vacation in Thailand right now, but I managed to sneak in a few moments to check out AP for new posts, and I was pleased to finally see some responses.

I'm glad, this is just the sort of thing that I wanted to see. Grave of the Fireflies is an ancient anime I don't think I would have thought of seeing if I hadn't heard such good things about it. Obviously I'm going to have to wait until I get home to watch it thought, don't have enough time now :)

After I have seen Grave of the Fireflies, I'll come back with another response, like most people here have been suggesting.

Until then,

Cowboy Bebop: Possibly the Saddest Anime Ending Ever?

"Forgive me if there is already a similar post to this somewhere that I failed to see, but I felt inspired to discuss this here.

By now I've been watching anime for quite some time, and I've seen quite a number of complete anime series. Yet in all this time I can't say I have ever seen an anime ending that moved me to tears save for the final scene of Cowboy Bebop. I'm a pretty stalwart guy most of the time, so this is saying a lot for me.

So here is the question: are there others out there that agree that Cowboy Bebop had the saddest ending to an anime series that they can remember? Any thoughts as to why or why not you think so? In particular, I remember being very surprised by how emotional the ending was. In some anime series it is immediately apparent—or at least very strongly implied—that the ending won’t be a very happy one, and I find myself preparing ahead of time for the ending, and it doesn’t surprise me very much. In this case, however, I was watching the final episode, the music started to swell, we see Spike coming down the steps, and suddenly

When you're watching anime...

7 months 2 weeks ago

"There are many different styles of anime out there, and it seems to me that with some series or movies, it makes sense to involve yourself more completely with the themes and morales behind the plot by analyzing imagery and symbolism. Having said that, however, I really can't say that I would look for symbolic meanings in every anime series. In my view, some anime works are better left as "for entertainment only", while more complex/character-styled anime series and movies deserve the chance to be analyzed to appreciate them fully.

To prove my point, I'll examine a typical action-styled anime, such as any of the Dragonball series. With this type of anime, I really don't see the point in attempting a deep analysis for hidden meanings, themes, or symbolic representations. In my view, the frequent fighting scenes were intended to provide an entertaining anime suited for a wide-range audience. Sure, if you want to poke around, you could think about stuff like the value of friendship, some basic moralities of right and wrong (e.g., bad guys kill), et cetera et cetera. But as for myself, attempting to extract deep meaning from such a series would only detract from the enjoyment I experience when I watch Goku beat the living daylights out of everyone. (Hurray for Super Saiyan 3!)

Then we have anime along the lines of Neon Genesis Evangelion, a series absolutely riddled with deeper meanings, complex imagery, and symbolic interpretations. Taken at face value, a "for entertainment only" anime viewer could write this series off as just another futuristic anime where huge mecha do their best to pulverize each other and generally create action-packed havoc. Not so! Given the chance, this series can provide a wealth of intellectual as well as visual enjoyment. Watching Shinji Ikari as he struggles to find meaning to his existence in the world, as well as analyzing the complex array of issues such as trust, friendship, lack of personal security, and loneliness experienced by a number of the characters can all significantly increase your enjoyment of the series.

The problem with your typical anime series based largely on the quality of the action scene animation is the ever increasing quality of such animation. As time passes, animation quality continues to get better, proportional to the rise of many new anime studios throughout Japan, who are all trying to gain a competitive edge. While such anime may be fun to watch for a while, without something more, some deeper meaning to grasp hold of, the animation quality will eventually be surpassed, and the anime may be rendered obsolete. It is the anime series or movies which combine action sequences with well though-out and engaging plots (filled with deeper meanings and symbolism) that continue to be thrive even when the animation style used to produce them becomes out-dated. For what other reason would anime films such as "Grave of the Fireflies" or "Akira" still be so popular, when they were made well over a decade ago? It is when we understand the deeper meanings and symbolic features in anime that we are able to truly connect with and experience it to its full potential."

Exam Results Failed: Your Reactions?

7 months 3 weeks ago

"Ouch... I have to say, major depression or worse over a single failed exam seems a bit harsh to me. Certainly suicide is always an over-reaction. It seems to me that even if you fail a major exam, you should normally be allowed to retake the exam/course associated with the exam/etc at some later date. Maybe this doesn't hold true for all exams in all situations, but if you pause to consider, this should normally hold true. A failed course (whether it be high school, college, or university level) can be reattempted the following year, can it not? And while I have no personal knowledge of this, it seems to me that you should be allowed to retry an entrance exam (say to some university) after a year or so.

Fortunately (not to brag or anything ( []-[])9 emoticon ) I have never failed on a major exam/test, so I can't say that I have any first hand experiences (~_~) emoticon. Nonetheless, if I were to fail such an exam, it would be a knock-on-wood indicator to me that either (a) the test was far too advanced for me, or (b), that I didn't study hard enough, and I'm pretty sure that I'll always be able to tell the difference.

Mind you, I am quite sure that the pressures to perform as far as academics are concerned vary considerably from country to country. In Canada there probably isn't nearly as much general importance associated with grades as there might be in Japan, for instance.

Well, I guess not everyone can maintain this view on grades (lets pull out the IQ tests, people!) but so far it has worked pretty well for me.

Cheers!

Has technology making us lazy?

8 months 1 day ago

"Now here's an interesting question. I think my English teacher would find this a most interesting topic for a class discussion. Anyways, since I happen to like debating, I typed up a short*** essay on it. If you take the time to read it, please comment!

"
Techno Laziness - by C2

I believe that technology itself is not directly responsible for making people lazy. Rather, it is the way in which each person interacts with the technology in their environment that determines whether or not that person becomes a lazier person.

To start off with, each and every person has a certain amount of laziness already integrated into their personality and way of doing things. This could range from being an extremely lazy slob to someone with incredible motivation who hardly ever gives into the lazy side. Such a statement could probably hold true for any time period this earth has seen, regardless of the technological advancement present at these times.

Now to support my argument I’ll introduce a typical human being who is neither a hardcore lazy slob nor a fanatically motivated, energetic person without an iota of laziness. This person is sometimes lazy, but generally tries to avoid being controlled by their laziness. One day this person hears about the GPS device, and about all of the wonderful conveniences it brings to navigation. “That sounds interesting” this person thinks, and purchases and tests one of the GPS units for himself. Finding that its wonders are exactly as advertised, the person continues to use the technology, and becomes increasingly reliant upon it. Over time he cannot even imagine life without it any more. Whereas in the past travelling somewhere new involved time spent poring over maps deciding on the best route, this person now punches a button and lets the GPS do the rest. As a result, this person now has more free time than ever before.

The crux of the matter comes with what occurs after this initial exposure to the time-saving joys of technology. A definition for “lazy” obtained from www.dictionary.com defines ‘lazy’ as “to be averse or disinclined to work, activity, or exertion; indolent”. To illustrate, we might show how a lazy person watching TV might spend time sitting motionlessly trying to remember where he left the remote, whereas someone else would jump up and change the channel manually, and then actually look for the remote (probably finding it quite quickly), before sitting back down. After an initial exposure to some of the energy-saving amenities technology can provide, a lazy person will almost always become increasingly dependent on technology. This can progress to the point where if any work needs to be done (for example, changing the channel on the TV), the lazy person will try to replace the work with a technological device. Even if this individual realizes that actually getting up to would change the channel much faster than trying to access technology (the remote), he will continually attempt to use the technology in place of physically exerting himself.

I could give a number of other examples. Say for instance that our typical person is given a phone number which he needs to remember and will frequently use. Since the person has experienced the time-and-work saving wonders of technology, rather than committing the phone number to memory, which would require a certain amount of effort on his part, the person types the number into his cell phone without ever trying to memorize it. This person now needs the technology in order to access the phone number. In place of this, a non-lazy person would likely realize the benefits of having the phone number typed into a cell phone to quickly access it, but would also try to commit the phone number to memory.

In each case, when presented with a new technology, you are given a choice as to how you allow yourself to be influenced with the conveniences that it provides. An already lazy person exposed to technology will very likely become even lazier as the technology is used by that person to replace tasks that require effort. Someone who is only slightly or never lazy may do very much the same when exposed to technology; however, they will not allow their mindset to be controlled by the work-saving services technology brings.

As I stated in my thesis, technology itself does not directly make us lazy. It is an undeniable fact that, when used properly, certain technologies can save huge amounts of time and effort that previously needed to be expended doing certain menial tasks. I could not begin to imagine life without a clothes washer, considering how much effort it used to take people over a century ago to wash clothes. The non-lazy person realizes that if the TV remote can’t be immediately be found, getting up to change the channel usually works far better than remaining seated (as a typical lazy person might do). While this person relies upon technology in normal circumstances, we could not call them “lazy”, since they are not “averse or disinclined to work, activity, or exertion” because of the technology. Thus, it is our interactions with the technology, and not the technology itself, that determines whether a person becomes lazier or not.
"

SIDE NOTE: Now the truly unfortunate thing is that most people do have a certain amount of laziness, and so, when exposed to technology, tend to get a bit lazier as a result.

***Hmmm, in retrospect maybe it is not so short an essay after all. Anyways, if you took the time to read it, don't forget to tell me what you think!***

After waiting about 15 minutes and trying again, the page loaded normally. Anyways, not sure what was the problem, maybe a temporary overload on the server? data lost in transmission? anyways, just thought I'd mention it, since if other people are having the same issue something can be done to address it.
