"Well I was listening to Eagles, Creedence Clear Water Revival, Foreigner, Boney M and stuff like that. I must say that certain songs are really extremly good (the fact that they are often remixed serves well as proof of their greatness).
However I am now listening to totally different stuff :D Mostly OSTs and piano tracks/music."

Sorting of wallpapers

I know that normally you would get something like GET['sort'] (sort is something one can select and something that is appended to the address later - like .php?sort=time,name for example)

this could be handled by the script with lets say a "switch" and a few "case"s. And depending on that, the line where the variable is read by mqsql (and later "mysql_fetch"ed), would be changed to something like:

$wpadd = mysql_query("SELECT WPADD from AP_DB where category=".$_GET['category']." order by ".$_GET['sort'].");

in the line above you wouldn't even need the switch->case thing - even though I am not sure if one could write it like that or if it might lead to problems and one would have to analyze $_GET['sort']. In any case - one would have to "encode" the URL, so that special symbols wouldn't get lost.

And then just have a drop down menu, where one could pick the sorting type he/she likes.

Whats so good about Windows that people don't use Linux?

"To be honest ... I could probably write an essay here ... but I will restrain from doing so as probably noone would be reading it anyway.

Windows is simply easier to use - by all means. In linux you have to recompile your kernel and whatnot.. and make sure stuff is in that kernel and if not upgrade, then recompile etc... annoying really.

The other thing is I work with programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat as well as with more delicate programs such as Cinema4D, 3dsmax and finalrenderer (ok - its only a plugin - but costs more than 3dsmax itself and has its own logic).
Linux has only GIMP and Blender - which are no solution for what I do / have to do. Maya is too complicated. And if I ever wanted to have a programs-only computer - Mac would be my first choice - Windows (not Vista) - my second.

Linux is probably the best server system. But I must be honest here as well: I had my own server, but I didn't want to learn bash etc. I was happy I could finally forget DOS ... and then this. I quit my server and am now waiting for my Win2k3 Server.

Anyway - everyone has his/her own opinion. But my opinion is that linux can be judged by what it is worth. And there are quite a number of systems (Vorbis, HP, Dell even) with bundled linux - but they werent really successful simply because people tend to like stuff that is easier to use - even if it may be not as stable as a well-tuned linux (tuned by a professional though).

Sorting of wallpapers

First of all: sorry if I am selfish. I just browsed AP and ended up browsing my favs again to pick a wallpaper for the pc desktop at work. Then suddenly I remembered the title of the wall (or one word at first) and was looking for a way to sort the wall by title instead by date (descending).

I don't know how AP works - but if it is database based (and I think it is) - it might actually be pretty easy to add sorting support, as there are only a few mysql commands one would have to add/change.

Again: please excuse me if I am selfish. I don't - by any means - want to upset the programmers of this page - as they do really an outstanding work!

I just miss such a feature and it would be great if it were possible to sort fav walls and maybe also walls one browses in a category (like: if a category is big and one wants to sort by names instead of by last posting).

"Hm.. I really can't understand why this thing wasn't accepted. I have seen worse walls getting accepted.

However to improve it I'd try to somehow let the background be background and the foreground - foreground. The fore- and background do not always have to blend well... sometimes it is useful to have the main character or something "stand out" in order to attract viewers.
maybe some lightning works on the background and (separatly) on the foreground might help you make the wall interesting.

However - by looking at it over and over again - I just can't find anything I would do to this wallpaper in order to "improve" it. Maybe it is just the style one does not like - but I do. I like the wallpaper.

My First Wallaper

"Well I can't really complain about the extraction of the characteres, which seems to have been done quite ok.
What bothers me more is the shadow effect behind each of the characters.

It makes the characters appear somehow "flat" and kinda "overlayed" above the "flat" background. So what I would do is take that shadow effect out and rearrange them a little (maybe overlapping each other a little?).
I also would take out that half-transparency out (from the girl to the right for example).

As for the background: it looks a bit too simple. But remember: simple is not always bad, because usually you want the viewer to focus on the foreground. So you have to make the foreground more interesting in order to be able to add a better background. So after rearranging the foreground (into a row maybe?) and letting the characters partly overlap each other, you could try to use some lines in the lower part of the wallpaper (the lines would be parallel to the horizont) - in my opinion a line could cause the wallpaper to look not that random.
You could also use that line in order to write a title there - or a memorizable sentence or whatever you want.

Do all anime originate from manga?

"Well I am sorry I dont have time to read all the previous post, but:

by far not all animes derive from manga; there are lots which come from hentai games, or which are made "from scretch". There are animes which have mangas coming out later than the anime.
Or: the manga is so hardly known among even japanese people that many think the anime didnt have a "base" (Fate Stay Night for example). Or: the manga has so many differences (like the Mai HiME manga) that it seems to have a totally different plot line."

"Lol that is so ... interesting? :D the HCG set of Fate Stay Night and the sequel Fate Hollow Ataraxia is pretty amazing. Though of course the second game is by far not as goog as the first one. The best thing to me are actually the quality of the visuals and - how else could it be - the quality of the audio material. The first OST is of course much better XD (from the game). I am really desperate for the OST of the anime... but I guess we still have some time to wait :D

I never thought that an ex-h-game could be that interesting... I mean as for me the nude scenes seemed to "have been" just put into the game without any context.

I haven't seen 9 yet ... too afraid of not being able to wait for 10 XD"

"Well I think that such a movie is very difficult to make - the best would be to use as less 3d modeling as possible - but as much as needed.

I could imagine most of the non-eva-fighting story to be just a normal movie. However - when they fight the only thing I wouldn't want is something like the Sailor Moon live action or the Cutey Honey live action.

If there is no other way (excecpt making 3D models and animating them) - then so be it. But I'd rather see some "dolls" (robots) which are remotely controlled. They would just seem more nice somehow.

Btw: the same goes to Gundam Seed live action I think."

"One thing I can add: the time they know each other - doesn't 100% show if they match each other well or not. My brother knew his wife for about 2 weeks ... and 2 weeks later they just married.. and they still live happily. I wanted to say that because of the fact that the time a couple is together never necessarily gives a hint to their kind of relationship. If they are a perfect match - everything (for their future) might work out in a couple of weeks (as I saw it). On the other hand there are relationships that develop theirselves during many months and even years - and never become as strong. So it is totally up to the people themselves.

As to the help: I can only repeat what the people before me already said: encourage him to do whatever he does himself - and with confidence."

"Well I for myself am totally against judging it at all.. However: you know what a friend of mine sad? Of course he said that it is a mess that Denmark published these caricatures. But in fact - Denmark as a country isnt at fault, because it doesn't have a law against it.
On the other hand: instead of reacting with violence, he said, it would be much funnier if they just shot back with another picture of something from our religion... e.g. imagine someone making up a caricatur of the holocaust (which undoubtfully was terrible *says it to make clear that it is an opinion of his friend and not his own*) - he said (of course it was meant as a joke (again)) Germany would be one of the top10 pic supplier :/

So yeah - one shouldn't insult the Islam, since they their religion is their law. And that exactly is also a point which european people don't understand (and probably won't) - and I think I am no exception: how can a country live with only these religious laws?
