"I like the update. the colors do look better, but i didn't pick up on the rain thing. maybe overemphasizing it instead of de-emphasizing it. dunno if this one would work, but it looked like a pretty cool rain drop tutorial. if you use it for the surface and this one for the air, it might look good (might not... dunno). anyone have a good rain tutorial?

"Good work for your first time. it would take a lot longer, but you might want to think about vectoring the characters. here's a good tutorial for vectoring. otherwise, i agree with saka4rob that it needs to be cleaned. and using a filter on top of the characters is a little taboo according to what i've heard from other people on this site. here's a cleaning tutorial if you want to go that route. either way, good start. keep it up."

"I agree with yolanta that the stars don't look perfect with the characters, but i still like them. they're toned down a lot in the second picture from your last post. maybe a little more blur on them and bigger/fewer stars would make it mesh better with the thick lines and low detail of renton and eureka.

i like it so far... it's my desktop already and it hasn't even been accepted yet. keep it up... it'll get accepted. no doubt."

"Nice changes. the noise, random placement of the pictues... i like that it's all the same character from different angles/poses. multiple characters made it a little confusing. to me it seems a little simple now, but other people may disagree. nice work."

Best Monitor Settings for Making Walls

"I went to that site and found some cool sounding programs, but they all required special hardware to read the monitor.


this site had a bunch of tests, but the image still doesn't look like it did on my roommates computer. it actually brightened my last wall up instead of darken it like in other monitors. o well. thanks for the advice. from now on i'll try to check my walls on a bunch of different monitors before i post them."

"I searched for this topic and coulnd't find it, so I hope it's not a duplicate.

Ok. I got a Dell "Ultrasharp" 1707FP monitor in January that comes with 8.3million different settings for lightness, contrast, nuclear decay, etc. I've made two walls so far with it. They looked fine on my monitor, but when I looked at one of them on my roomate's monitor (same brand and almost as new), all the colors were different... the grey was puke-green, some objects were darker and some were lighter.

What settings should I use on my monitor so that I see what everyone else sees? I don't know if that question has an answer, but for you people that make perfect walls, how do you know we are looking at the same thing as you?

Sorry for the boring topic, but thanks for any advice you have."

"Imho, it looks better without the blur... minor change, but it's noticable. renton's face seems a bit too bright for eureka's. they should be equally lit since they're so close to each other... he stands out a bit too much.

the sky looks cool, but as it is it's kind of distracting. maybe tone it down a bit.

i really like your vector. good job. where'd it come from?

i just noticed that something about renton's jacket looks a little off. what are the greenish and grey lines? maybe it's just me being weird."

"I agree with both of you... the wall is a little plain and the screenshots seem to be a little too similar. that may have been on purpose, but i'm not a huge fan of it. (the two on the left and the bottom right; two black haired; top two on left look like mirror images of each other.)

also, the bottom middle one looks a little pixalated and the bottom right it a little too perfect to mesh well with the other softer pics. (imho)

great start... keep it up."

"I really like the eureka7 one. nice job with the bg. i was probably just getting a little picky with naruto's foot. it looks fine. the only thing that still bothers me is vash. it's like he's twisting at a funny angle. dunno if you'll like either of these, but here are two vash scans that might work for a vector.

"Yeah... you kind of lose the hands/sword in the dark background. is it a scan or did you draw it? looks like the right hand is a little big in relation to the rest of the character, but i don't know the show, it might be on purpose. also, it could use some cleaning... skin tone... smooth it in a couple of places. not really a fan of the colored light layer being on top of the character's layer... it makes part of her really red and other parts blue. (she's not getting any oxygen to her left shoulder... it's turning blue. people die from blood clots like that. very scary... save her.) weird, sorry about the last comment... on that i'm going to bed... way too late.

post an update if you change anything. it's a cool idea. keep working on it. good luck and nice start."

"The three different versions of... whatever that thing is... look really good (character, reflection, clouds... all in the same shape). that's a cool way to make the wall fit together.

the lines on the character are a little pixelated and the bleed into the pink a bit. that could be cleaned up. i like the buildings and the texture on the reflection. man, simple walls are so tough to do... but once you get them done they're great. keep it up."

"They have an original art section that you could try submitting it to... dunno if that would work... it doesn't have any other multiple show walls... eh.

for some reason, your update won't load... but the original looks good. the ipod rip-offs have been pretty common, so it's nice to see one that's unique (well, as unique as you can be with the sillouette and ipods). do you have any other vash vectors? the buckels on his coat and having one foot up make it a little tough to digest. maybe a little detail on naruto's shoe/shin... whatever that is he's pointing at us on his left. nice wall. i want to see your update."

"You have to crop it. if you just change the image size it'll compress it in one direction and make the pic look bad. check this out... it's the scan list for FFVII. might have some higher quality images for you to start from. just be careful... it costs a lot of paper to download scans."

" here's a cloud tutorial, but instead of doing super obvious clouds like what they show in the tutorial, try making a new layer, drawing some white lines with a pen and using gaussian and motion blurs. then you can change the layer's opacity to make night clouds.

also, if you use a small pen and dot it a couple of times and then use an outer-glow blending effect it looks like fireflies."

"I agree with arei... a vector would look much better, granted it would take forever to make his hair look good. the reason i think vectoring would be better is if you clean it, you still wouldn't have the super-percise hair and clothes to match the percise background. if you do vector, here's a really good photoshop tutorial for making wood textures (might look good in the background) and here's a good vectoring tutorial for illustrator, if you have it. the only problem with the tutorial is that it doesn't say anything about strokeless lines. when you make a vector, instead of using 1 or two pixel lines, make new super-small boxes for the lines so that the lines will vary in width. it adds a bit of depth and realism. vectoring takes a long time, but the results are usually much, much better. great start. good luck. "
