This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Super Smash Brothers!

3 months 2 weeks ago

"I agree that SSB's are awesome...I still remember playing the N64 version. God, Fox was heavy as heck and Link was my favorite character.

Then SSBM came around and I switched to Pikachu. Now I use Roy.

SSBB...I won't even comment on that, its overhyped and not as good as the predessor.

But its a shame that they removed Roy from SSBB and replaced with yet-another-super-heavy-character-that-we-definitely-did-not-need called Ike. Seriously, where are your brains, Nintendo?

SSBM is, IMHO, the best of the series. Good amount of character, not too easy but not too hard to play (Cliff hanging comes to mind - SSBB, you can hang onto cliffs even if you were looking the other way. Those characters must be heck of a contortionists.)

Console or PC?

3 months 2 weeks ago

"Comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges; no way to really compare because they're of different breeds.

You will get much more enjoyment out of playing racing games on a console. Why? Because using up arrow and a mouse to control the direction of your car is just not fun. I would take console for that purpose anyday.

But on the other hand, FPS games are so much better enjoyed on a PC. Keyboard and mouse is a superior form of control when it comes to shooters.

What I mean with these comparison is, there is no way to compare the two, and the fanboys with high egos on both camps need to realize that and cool their heads."

Animal Crossing Wii?

3 months 2 weeks ago

"Jeez, just another one of the never-ending stream of "fun" Wii games...

(Prepare for Nintendo fanboy flametank)

While Animal Crossing was interesting, I am left to wonder on the console of Wii as a whole:

"Did Nintendo defeat the whole point of having the Wiimote with the newer games?"

They don't react to your actions. You use the Wiimote just like a controller. (SSB:B comes to mind) Then, in eternal hell, was the whole point of making this "innovative" control system...

Sorry for the rant here. I am looking forward to see what they can improve on with Animal Crossing for Wii."

What Makes You Buy and Play a Video Game?

3 months 2 weeks ago

"The reason really depends on the console itself, or rather, the title itself.

I buy racing games for PS2 so I can get some 1 Player excitement. Driving is just one of my interests.

But I also buy FPS because with two players, I can face off or team with my brother. Or I can go online and have even more fun.

Games keep me occupied, and that's the reason why I buy them - I don't buy to belong or feel included, obvious by my lack of newer titles such as COD4 and Halo 3. I just don't have the money for those expensive consoles..."

Wii fit

"My (radical) opinion:

Anyone who needs, depends on and shells out $70CDN for a game to keep them fit, are pathetic.

Go do a 20 min jog. Does more wonders than an hour of Wii Fit "workout". You also get fresh air.

Linux / BSD / GNU topic

"Maybe this thread can help..

I have this old Pentium 4 machine that has NO hard drive...everything needed to run a computer except the hard drive. So naturally I gave Ubuntu a shot.

Turns out, the computer won't even load the Live CD that Ubuntu sent me. The system just freezes completely right after the Compaq logo is displayed...

Any thoughts? "

My Car

"Hey, you live in Vancouver eh =) Probably will see your WRX zooming around town once in a while.

Though I must say, the new WRX STi's are quite watered-down compared to the original. That's a shame, because its always been a rally inspired car, but then, on the other hand, if it stayed faithful to its roots it would've been even more of a pain to drive than the Integra, eh?

Anyways congratulations on your purchase, it will serve you well in the future!"

COD4 is SO fun

"The most I did on COD4 was fire M16 for a clip...pretty sad, I know.

It sucks not having friends who play shooters and would rather sing karaoke.

But I did watch some videos, and gosh, what a difference from previous COD series. Stunning."

Instrumental or Lyrical?

QUAD CORES

4 months 2 weeks ago

"
Which would you prefer NOW, INTEL's Quad Cores or AMD's Quad Cores?

I have a Core Duo at the moment, but before the bugfix the Intel Quad cores tore through Phenoms...=(
Which would you prefer (after AMD cleans up the mess on their cores), INTEL's Quad Cores or AMD's Quad Cores.

I'd give Phenoms a shot but its slightly too expensive for me, about $270 CDN which I am not prepared to shell out.

Ok, the volume of the transistor is getting doubled while the space is getting really smaller. Cores of the future are getting denser in the tiniest package. Anyway, the rate is always double (base 2 logarithm) i.e.( 1,2,4,8,16,32) like binary. 4 cores is quad core. 8 cores is octo cores... I guess... Ok now, what would they name a die package with 16 cores in it? =) XD

Uno-hexacore ;)

I think Intel's Q-series outperform the Phenom X4's by a wide margin, even after B3 stepping on AMD's part, but not everyone's ready to pay the full price of Intel's Q-series...I'm one of them. When I build my own system later this year, or early next year, I would seriously consider looking into a Phenom for a quad-core. But most likely I'll stick with the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 "Wolfdale"...3.0GHz of 45nm glory."

What I think

"KyoAni's great <3 emoticon

They did a fantastic job with Kanon 2006...Clannad is even better!

Good to know that they're planning 24 episodes as well...13 would be too short but anything over 25~30 would be too long."

Super Smash Bros Brawl!

8 months 1 week ago

"Though this game has all the hype, I hope it lives up to it.

The reason why I say that is because the Wii controls are still not exactly the best thing to use for games involving constant actions. Take Call of Duty 3 for example. The aiming is terrible at best. I could not aim the gun towards the enemy at all, let alone shoot that thing. Sure, for things like WarioWare it is perfect, but for constant action, Wiimote still fails.

SSBB should have got its controls worked out though. It's a major launch, one Nintendo can't afford to screw up on. When I try it myself, I'll know if I'll love it or not."

Vista Vs. XP

8 months 1 week ago

"Personally, I use Windows Vista Home Premium and haven't regret buying a laptop with it. I enjoy the Aero visual effect - it makes the OS look so much more refined. Everything else with Vista is also just as nice - the minimize/maximize effects along with many others.

My laptop comes with Intel GMA 950 which does not have 128MB of dedicated memory, and Aero runs fine - no lag. It's not the latest Core 2 Duo processor either - I still have the last-generation Core Duo processors. Vista is perhaps a tad slower than XP, but in exchange for more refined experience, I'm willing to forgo the slight speed decrease."

Don't you use Microsoft?

8 months 1 week ago

"The only OS that I've been using to any extent would be the Windows line. I started using the computer with Windows 98 (When I was 8) on the then top-of-the-line Compaq laptop. Since then, I've used Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP and now I use Windows Vista.

The Macs at my school has Mac OS X Tiger installed, but since I'm a big anti-Apple person I only use it because I have to."

Xenosaga

"I really love Xenosaga Episode i! I bought it like 3 months ago from EB Games and I got hooked on the first 10 minutes! I think it has a really nice storyline and deep meaning to the game - even more than FF in my opinion. Plus all three episodes are with same characters so its not like FF where there's no continuity.

My favorite character would have to be KOS-MOS. I'm just drawn to her, LOL. And my favorite E.S. is Reuben <3 emoticon

Since I didn't play Episodes I nor II I don't know how it's like, but I hear that Episode i's the best of all - and I think so too. Best RPG game ever. I hope they continue the series later on for PS3 maybe - it's a shame that it was cancelled. "

My proposed new rig

10 months 5 days ago

"Wow, that's one crazy gaming rig there. You can probably play all games without much discomfort.

If you really want the best (and can afford it!), you can get the Core 2 Quad QX9650 (I believe) which is based on the new 45nm technology, although that processor alone would run you about $1000. Probably not a sensible upgrade though.

And nVidia won't release a 9800GT yet, they are just about to release the 8800GTS - it won't be for another half a year to a year I reckon. I might be wrong here though.

AMD is going to release their Phenom sometime in Q1 or Q2 2008. It's probably going to match or even surpass Intel Core 2 Quad in performance.

But I think that rig should keep you happy for a while :D It certainly would do for me!"

IE vs. Firefox vs. Opera

10 months 5 days ago

"I have both Firefox 2.0 and Internet Explorer 7. I actually use both regularly, though Firefox gets more of the usage simply because it has the "Open last session" feature so when my computer crashes or freezes, I can recover my tabs easily.

If Internet Explorer 7 had that, I would switch over to that immediately."

Vista Vs. XP

10 months 5 days ago

"I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. I got it with my new laptop. I don't know why people keep bashing Vista without even trying it first; I was skeptical about how compatible it would be with my hardware at first too. But then, as I installed drivers for my hardware I realized that there was only one that was incompatible (Lexmark P6250 Printer) and that was fixed by downloading a Vista-compatible version of the software/driver from Lexmark.

I really like the visual effects Microsoft put into Vista; it makes the computing experience so much nicer. The fact that I have Aero running on Intel GMA 950 smoothly says something about its real life requirement - you don't need a dedicated super-high performance graphics card.

My only gripe is that Vista still uses a lot of RAM. I have 2GB and most of the time it uses an entire gigabyte although some can be attributed to extra stuff I run like gadgets and a dock.

I really like Vista. I think people should get a chance to try it out."
