This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

"I've had it since I bought a GC about 2 years ago, never really got into it, but I've heard of the extremely dedicated fan base for this game so I may try getting into it some more later.

From what I did play, it's definitely a great party game, if a little chaotic at times."

Voice Acting In Games

2 years 8 months ago

"I prefer voice acting in games, provided they do a good job of it. MGS series shows how much good voice acting can do for a game, games like Onimusha 2 do not. Then you also have games with mixed VAs like Tales of Symphonia, where just one horrid VA ruined the whole experience for me (it was the one for Collette, in case you were wondering).

If possible I'd prefer Japanese voices, but with increasing amounts of dialog in today's games that might not always be possible, although with PS3s available disc space, it might make that problem moot.

With the next-gen consoles on the horizon I'm sure the number of games withOUT voice acting will be slim to none, given that it seems it's become expected in modern games, like good graphics. We can only hope they do a good job. "

Mario Cart DS

2 years 9 months ago

"Anyone picked this up yet? I just got it yesterday, it's awesome. I think I like this one better than the Gamecube version, plus you can play anyone online too, if it wasn't for that feature I probably would have passed this one up since I wasn't too impressed by the screenshots I'd seen earlier.

Nintendo has improved on that version a lot, hopping is back! And you can finally again hold items behind to as a shield for others projectiles. Plus the map on the bottom screen of the DS is really helpful showing all the obstacles forthcoming, on the track and from your fellow racers.

Still haven't tried the online component until I learn some of the tracks more familiarly, but from what I've heard it's really fun, with slim to no lag whatsoever.

Once I get setup online I'll post my friends code (what you use to find friends to challenge) and we'll get some Animepaper races going!"

"Used to play Red Alert online for hours, but didn't like the next one very much. After that I've stuck with Warcraft.

I think they're going to be releasing ALL of the C&C games in one pack for $30 sometime soon, I might pick that up to see the rest of the games."

Anime into Games? Why do they suck so much?

2 years 9 months ago

"True, most anime based games are terrible. But there are a few gems among the pile of turds out there, the Naruto games for the Gamecube are actually pretty fun for some 4 player mayhem and the supers look slick.

Haven't tried the new Beserk game for the PS2, but the orginal for the Dreamcast was pretty good too. Ghost in the shell for the PS1 also gets honorable mention solely for the awesome anime intro (high quality animation for Makoto that actually looks like her manga counterpart...enough said), and the game itself was quite decent!

As far as the reason most are bad: almost guarranteed sales to fans of the series for a game with minimal production costs leading to higher profits."

Same goes for textbooks. "

Scary Games

2 years 9 months ago

"You've already noted all the PS2's scary games I can think of. Fatal Frame being the slowest pace of the 3, followed by Silent Hill then Resident Evil. Although RE 4 isn't quite as scary as the others in the series since you're usually fully loaded with the appropriate weapons and ammo. Never played Clock Tower so no comment on that.

I've heard Siren is pretty freaky too, but again haven't played it, I think it was kind of a mix of RE and Silent Hill from the screens I've seen of it.

If you happen to have a Gamecube and haven't tried it already, I highly recommend the Remake of Resident Evil 1 followed by Resident Evil Zero, those two are GC exclusives and excellent additions to the series. Plus the Cube has Eternal Darkness which is good stuff too."

NEW STREET FIGHTER!

2 years 9 months ago

"I remember reading an article saying that Alpha 3 was the last in that series =/
I'd LOOVE another 2-D Street Fighter though, SF 3 3rd strike is my favorite fighting game by far. Here's hoping Capcom still has the guts (and talent) needed to create another masterpiece. 3rd strike is still very popular in Japan, SBO (their biggest fighting game tournament) just announced that it's going to appear in their next game line up again, making it one of the longest lived fighting games in that tournament.

My fingers are crossed for good news...

the best online rpg

2 years 9 months ago

"Another vote for WoW. Very newbie friendly, easy to pick up, get into, made so that you don't have to have a powerhouse of a PC to enjoy the game (graphics look great on pretty much any setup, due to the art style). Doesn't require a broad-band connection (56k modem is fine), easy to find groups with the added meeting stones outside of dungeons, etc etc. There are so many good points about this game, I've played quite a few mmorpgs and this one is the best of the lot imo.

I'd say the only drawback of the game is the high (but not relatively high) monthly price ($15 per month). Although you get a discount if you subscribe for more than one month, eg. 3 month or 6 month plans.

I got the shadows of colossus

2 years 9 months ago

"Yep, this game is amazing. In fact, after beating the first two I reset the game just to fight them over again then went on with the game. I'm up to the 7th colossi now (i think, it's the underwater one) and so far my favorite has to be the 3rd one. The size and impact of his weapon is awe-inspiring. Haven't noticed any dramatic frame rate slow down, but maybe I'm just not that observant. Controls do take a little getting used to, but don't listen to what nay-sayers might say, they are tight and responsive once you get the hang of it. "

I loathe dust!! (PSP Related)

2 years 9 months ago

"Well, I just blew $10 in less than 20 seconds. Now anyone with a PSP knows that the thing attracts dust like flys to honey, after getting tired of wiping away the umpteenth dust spec from the screen with utmost care (for fear of scratching the screen), I decided to buy Hori's Portable Liquid Crystal Filter Plus ($10 with shipping) b/c I heard it was the best screen protector, you wouldn't even be able to tell it was there. After waiting nearly 2 weeks for it to arrive I crack it open, clean up the PSP screen with the supposedly lint-free cloth they conveniently pack-in and carefully apply the plastic protector to the PSP.

I was glad to see I'd stuck it on straight and nothing was misaligned (my biggest worry about putting this thing on, I should've known better). I take a closer look at my handiwork and I notice a small spec of dust had landed on the screen just prior to my application and was now stuck there. I decided after a little hesitation to pry off the plastic and see if I could use my fingernail to 'scratch' it off the sticky part of the protector, big mistake... after resealing the plastic, I found at least another 10+ more specs of dust under there! To cut this long story short: in my anger at dust and myself for fouling up such a supposedly simple task I peeled off the now dust riddled plastic protector and it now resides in my trash bin =/

For the few of you that read this far: do any of you know of any substitutes without having to import? The biggest thing is that it's gotta be crystal clear while on the screen. Thanks."

Quake 4

2 years 9 months ago

"I've played the first 4 lvls or so, and so far it's a lot like Doom 3 with a flashlight on your guns. This isn't neccessarily a bad thing, I liked D3, but it feels like no extra effort was made to seperate the two games aside from the enemies/guns. Hopefully it picks up in the later levels, I can't help but feel disappointed b/c I loved Q2 and Q3 (multiplayer of course) and I've no doubt this games multi is going to be another D3 replica which doesn't have the same feel as the previous Quake's.

*SPOILERS* (not really if you've seen the trailers)

I know you get turned into a Strogg later on in the game, and that was one reason I decided to check it out, but according to PC Gamer it doesn't really change gameplay at all, which is a real shame. Plus, the railgun is back! Haven't gotten it yet but if it's in it's Q2 form, that's instant + points for the game from me!

*/SPOILERS*

Ah well, the single player campain should be enough to kill some time at least."

PSP

"Seen pics of it, way to bulky and ugly for my tastes. Takes away the slim sleek design of the psp, I'm sure it's pretty heavy too, further detracting from it's portability. As I recall it retails for $199, better than the rumored $250, but much too expensive just for longer battery time/storage since it makes your psp ugly as heck."

what do u think is the lamest anime to day that u seen

2 years 9 months ago

"Ninja Scroll the TV series! It started off pretty decent, but midway through the 2nd dvd to the end, it turned into a complete turd. I don't know what the hell the creators were smoking when they made this. I know the ova had crazy creatures/powers and it was one of the hooks of the show, but the TV series went overboard, ending was terrible too! One of the few anime I'm pissed off for buying."

What's the best torrent downloader?

2 years 9 months ago

"I also recommend Shadow's, mainly because I like the option of adjusting the upload rate for each torrent easily. Tried Bitcomet for a bit too, and that is also pretty good, in some ways better than the original client or Shadow's b/c all the torrents are loaded into one interface ala Azureus. Never tried Azureus personally b/c it forces you to install java =/"

I Could Play This Game FOREVER!!!!!

2 years 9 months ago

"I just finished Xenogears and it's definitely made my top 3 rpg list. Outstanding story, music, graphics (for the time anyway). Only minor drawback would've been the cutscene dubs being completely mis-timed, especially for the ending, not enough to ruin it but annoying nonetheless. Also, did anyone else notice that they seemed to keep some of the japanese voiceovers during the anime scenes? eg. at the ending when Bart calls out to Fei, it's with a very japanese-esque "Oyyy" and also when someone (can't remember who, maybe Fei) got hit in his gear, another jpn-esque scream. I just thought it was weird."
