After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

*Reads on.* (Why do I feel funny all of a sudden?) I used to dislike pink, because it reminded me of my friend from a long time ago (I had a grudge).

$Loftydreamer 14 minutes ago
I find it quite a nice color, because it used to irritate my girlfriend when I was going to buy pink shirts and because I look good in pink.

Authemis, I've been in a school, in a classroom, that has guys (and no girl student) for about 5 years. So, whatever it is, may not surprize me. TheReject, where were you for sometime?

graphics cards getting the most from yours

2 years 10 months ago

"Well, of course do the always-recommended procedure of making sure you have no spyware/adware, etc., and make sure the graphics setting in whatever game fit your graphics card and other hardware. As for it borrowing VRAM from the system memory, I'm guessing this is due to the shared graphics system in your laptop.

I personally have a ATi Radeon 9600 with 128MB VRAM in my iMac G5, and I have it overclocked a little; +30% to processor and memory speeds to be exact. I get pretty good performance from this setup - while super-crazy-hardcore gamers wouldn't be very happy with it, it handles World of Warcraft at high settings very nicely."

Chibi

2 years 10 months ago

"Chibis add to the anime's humor quite nicely if used properly and in the right places, but as said by the others, they get really annoying when the entire anime is chibi or they go chibi every 20 seconds.

A great example of correct chibi use would be Chobits and Full Metal Alchemist, in my opinion. They're used in the correct occasions and aren't overdone, and most of all, are cute/funny!"

"Looks good! The only things that bug me about this paper are a few areas that couple be a little cleaner on the scan, and that the contrast between the characters and the environment is a little too high. Also, I don't get how Misaki looks like a shemale... she looks pretty darn female to me o_O"

When anime characters say OMG

2 years 10 months ago

"I think the reason it sounds funny to us when Japanese people try to speak English is because the way using Japanese all their lives has trained their tongues and minds. They're not used to many things in English, primarily the sounds and sound combinations. English also more commonly uses stress on particular syllables than Japanese does.

And it could just be me, but it seems spoken Japanese crams a lot more "consonant" sounds into words than we do, and it sounds like it is spoken more quickly."

My Next Attempt

2 years 10 months ago

"The extraction of the characters is ok, but could be better. The background composition needs a lot of work - first of all, don't ever combine anime and real-life photography unless you can make it blend with the anime's style well. Second, if I'm not mistaken, the ship is from the TV series Andromeda, which has nothing to do with the anime. Third, the yellow glow on everything feels rather odd and probably shouldn't be used.

Hope I wasn't too harsh ^_^'

Scary moments

2 years 10 months ago

"Nothing really, really scary has ever happened to me, but a couple things have had my heart racing before.

The first time was about 6 or 7 years ago when I was walking around in the woods behind my house (I'm a semi-rural area of West Virginia). I was just walking around and playing with my little brother, when I suddenly heard what sounded like a panther. I scooped up my little brother and started running back towards our house as fast as I could. On the way back, I heard some leaves rustling right behind me, which made me think, "CRAP! The panther has me! It's all over now!". I turned around to see what I thought was a panther in pursuit of me, only to see my housecat Windsor following me around. Boy was I relieved.

The other time was in a dream. I was listening to music while I slept, and in my dream I was in a ship of some sort, moving through space very quickly. As I walked through it, I saw giant speakers on the walls with the soundwaves of the music I was listening to on top of them. It wasn't really scary, and was actually kind of interesting, until all of the sudden the ship just came to a dead stop, sending me flying through the air towards the front of the ship. This scared me and made me wake up and made my heart start being very quickly."

Wow, you took an absolutely boring background and made it alot more interesting with just a few adjustments. Very believable. I would also like to commend you on a terrific job redrawing her from the scan, beautiful work!

Thank you! :D It makes me feel good to know my efforts are actually going somewhere.

Does anybody else feel like sharing their feelings about the latest update to the wall? I want to make sure it's perfect before resubmitting it.

Thanks again!

Mac versus PC's

2 years 10 months ago

"Something that it is being developed right now is Parallels, which allows you to run Windows programs right beside regular Mac programs at FULL NATIVE SPEED, WITHOUT the windows desktop - it's really nice. Here's a couple screenshots of it in action:

While it's still a bit slow, they are also working to make sure games run well under this too. So with Parallels, the entire "But my software is Windows-only" argument can just be thrown straight out the window."

I use Safari, but out of those three choices, I'd have to go with firefox, it's pretty good!

Do you mean Safari browser from Mac's compuer? That's cool, is there the version for Windows? I wanna have a try :)

There's no Windows version... you can get an idea of how it renders things by installing KDE Konqueror in Linux and imagine what you see with a much better text rendering system, though. That's what Safari is like."

do you think fine for rejected wall papers should be higher or lower?

2 years 10 months ago

"There's a good reason for the fine. If there was no fine, I'd bet you that some people would be constantly submitting crap (MSPaint-created 640x480 type) as well as resubmitting rejected wallpapers a thousand times in hopes of getting a different admin to approve them. This would create a LOT more work for the admins, which is definitely something they don't need.

And honestly, is 100 paper really that much? I can get 100 paper from less than an hour's worth of constructive posting..."

Who hates iPods?

The thing is though, I want a perfect balance of quality price and durability. The iPod is not that thing, and there are definately better alternatives. I wouldn't get a better iPod, because no matter how much better it gets, it won't be the best. I shoot for the best.

I see what you're saying, but tons of features doesn't necessarily mean "best"; when it comes to things such as personal music players, there is no universal "best". What's best depends on what the person wants. While you might want OGG support, FM Radio, GPS tracking, HDTV support, a back massager and the kitchen sink, some people (in fact, probably most people) just want a simple large-capacity MP3 player without the bells and whistles. The iPod fits this description, and apparently that's what the masses want. It's as simple as that.

Now I'm not trying to push you to buy an iPod or anything - go ahead and buy a crap-color zune or and iRiver or whatever you want. I really don't care about that. All I'm saying is to stop dissing anything that doesn't fit your criteria for what you feel is "best"."

Yeah, but it probably has a crap load of scratches on it, and the screens probably fugly by now. Zen's, after a couple of years (like 5), you'll start noticing scratches. I own an iPod and Zen, the iPod has less scratches than the Zen, but the Zen still looks better. And the iPod has a skin and the Zen doesn't.

Nah, it's not really scratched badly. It has a couple rough spots from the more violent drops, but they're not even really noticable. The screen is still clear too, only carrying a minor scratch barely visible at certain angles. I have never used a case for my iPod.

If you want an iPod that is scratch resistant, get a nano - they have the same anondized aluminum casing that the iPod Minis used to have that is almost completely immune to scratches and is very tough."

Windows Vista

2 years 10 months ago

"
WaruiKoohii
As with the HD-DVD and BluRay DRM...it's pretty similar to what you get with standalone players. With standalone players, to get the full resolution, you need protected HDMI. Component will not get you the full resolution. People only make a big deal about it in regard to Vista, though. I'm not quite sure why. It's not really any different...

People make a big deal about it in Vista because traditionally, people have made backup copies of their DVDs with their computers, not the players. And beyond backup purposes, a lot of people have a media server PC that holds all their ripped DVDs hooked to their TV so they browse through all of them and play them on a whim instead of having to fumble around with the physical discs. Vista makes it impossible for people to do this with their HDDVDs and Blurays (which, btw, will eventually become standard, phasing out DVDs). This is why people are worried."

The only reason the iPod needs accessories becuz they're so dang fragile. Get a Zen, my cousins had his for years, and when it don't work, he hits it on a table to get it going. You'll never need better with something other than an iPod. Also, the only reason, Apple has a warranty is because their products break so much.

Fragile? HA! I've dropped my iPod more times than I can count in the 2 and a half years I've had it, one time even on solid rock (almost fell into a creek!) and the thing still works like a charm."

Windows Vista

2 years 11 months ago

"
WaruiKoohii
Well, there seem to be some misconceptions about Vista. I'll try to address them.

Vista will use your memory if it's available. With 1GB of RAM and using IE and AIM, I would have about 260MB free. However, at the same time, applications would launch extremely quickly, tabs were extremely fast (no paging at all), maximizing windows was very fast (again, no paging). Most of the memory used goes towards caches to boost the computers performance.

I have also run Vista with 512MB of memory. It was faster than Windows 2000 with 1GB of memory due to Vista's much improved memory manager.

Gaming performance under Vista with 512MB of memory isn't too different than gaming with 1GB of memory (well, within reason. The only game I had installed was CounterStrike, and I also ran 3D Mark 2003, which only lost a few points between 1GB and 512MB (same system, just yanked out a memory module)).

Ah, Vista's DRM. Yes, 64 bit versions of Vista will reject unsigned drivers. Unsigned drivers install fine in the 32 bit version.
Can I see your source regarding backups, iindigo? Ultimate does not have a utility to perform movie backups, so I'm curious about what application you're referring to.
Vista reduces the resolution on protected HD content over an unprotected video path. This does not affect unprotected HD or SD content.
Vista disables unprotected audio outputs while playing protected content. If you do not have protected content, your outputs will never be disabled.
May I see a source regarding Microsoft disabling hardware, Iindigo?
Yes, DRM is a "core part of the system," however, if you're so against DRM, you probably do not have any protected content. If you do not have any protected content, then you will never notice the DRM, as it will never touch your media.
Vista does not touch unprotected content. That means that your downloaded anime and movies will look just as they do on other OS's.
The above also goes for audio.
Were you drunk when using Vista, iindigo? Might explain the drunk feeling.
HAVE you ever used Vista for that matter?
iindigo, only component output is disabled while playing protected HD content. VGA works and DVI works.

I've used Linux with XGL. It was nifty for a few minutes, but it lost its appeal after a while, the wagging windows became annoying, and I couldn't find a point for spinning your desktop cube thing around trying to find the window you were working in. XGL is designed to look pretty, but it's not designed to be overly functional. Aero doesn't try to be too flashy. There was a wagging window option in an Alpha build apparently, but it was taken out before it even got to the Beta stage.

Hm...I think that's about it.

All the things I said regarding Vista DRM and disabling of hardware was based on a paper on Vista's security systems. It has made quite a large splash - I'll see if I can find a link.

While I have not used Vista first-hand, I have seen many, many screenshots and read almost as many reviews of the betas. The blurring caused by the "glass" windows frames is what gives one the drunk feeling; and no, I wasn't drunk while I was looking at it. Heck, I'm not even of legal drinking age yet.

As for opposition to DRM, I only despise strong DRM such as what's shown on protected content with Vista. Lighter DRMs that aren't even really restrictive, such as the one Apple uses with the iTunes Music Store, don't really bother me; it allows me to burn full-quality copies of the music to CDs if I want to, and it doesn't disable all my outputs when playing it."

Opera 9 vs. Firefox 2 vs. Internet Explorer 7

2 years 11 months ago

"In my mind, Internet Explorer automatically loses due to horrendous security and technical incapability and always will, no matter what the version. IE will always be horribly insecure unless they just ditch the entire IE codebase and start from scratch. And seriously, what self-respecting browser DOESN'T support PNG transparency properly these days? Even the browser included with BeOS that was programmed close to 6 years ago now supports them!!

Firefox has great security and great features, and it renders most sites beautifully, but the Firefox team needs to proceed with caution; they have reached the point where FF will become slow bloatware (much like the original Mozilla) if they aren't careful. Although it could stand a change or two, FF's interface is pretty good too.

Opera has most of the same winning points that Firefox does, but one things brings down its score: its interface. It uses some concepts and odd design in general, which while not necessarily bad, would be confusing for someone switching from IE or another browser.

So for me, the winner is Mozilla Firefox."

"I really don't understand people's attraction to FM radio... these days every station is about 45% commercials and their music choices are crappy and dictated by the record companies (unlike 20-30 years ago, when REAL DJs ran the place).

What are these new uses that have not been available to PC users, but have been available for MAC users?

Why put songs straight to your IPOD when you can put songs in itunes then into your ipod? Makes perfect sense.

The iPod is designed to work seamlessly with the Apple iLife applications on a Mac. These include iCal (calendar), iPhoto (photo library), Address Book, and iSync. They work completely seamlessly; provided that's what the user wants, whenever one plugs his iPod into his Mac, it automatically syncs any music/video library changes, new photos, calendar changes, and address book changes quickly and silently. It's really quite nice. And of course, you have to remember, since iTunes was originally a Mac program it runs much better on a Mac than it does on Windows.

As for the purpose of putting your music into iTunes and then onto your iPod, we do it because we use iTunes to organize our libraries of music nicely and neatly with correct artist and album info instead of having tons of folders full of random MP3s (yuck! so messy!) and because we use iTunes as our primary music player when using our computers. So really, iTunes isn't an inconvenience at all... in fact, it helps a lot. iTunes also works nicely when arranging a playlist from its library."
