^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

So many Haruhi references....

2 years 2 months ago

"I think the reason for so many references is that it is the same production company (Kyoto Animation) and the voice actress for both Haruhi and Konata is the same."

v5 Layout in Safari and Camino

2 years 7 months ago

"The new v5 site looks great and works just fine in Safari and Camino on OSX (be sure to empty cache if you see any major glitches and that will clear them up).
One glitch:
A couple of the graphic elements of the design end up aligned oddly. Most noticeable on the top header/navigation bar.
If my browser window is not opened as wide as the elements, then it shifts the bar off the left side of the screen and the right side elements don't line up correct or even show up if i try to scroll to the right to see them. If I resize my window, I can see them and it looks correct but otherwise it looks like it does in the attached image.

Suggestion and Possible Error

"That is about what I figured about the "Friend's Submissions" thing but I wanted to be sure. Thanks.

Anybody have any thoughts on the RSS suggestion?"

Suggestion and Possible Error

3 years 8 months ago

"Suggestion:
In the RSS feeds, is there any way that the preview/thumbnail image can be linked in the feed so that when an article comes up there is more than just a description? I know it is possible to do, but I don't know if it would fit in with AP's site concept (or even with the background code). I think it would make the RSS feeds a bit more useful.

Possible Problem:
I don't seem to be notified when someone on my friends list puts up a new wallpaper. I know I used to be notified , but I couldn't find anything stating if that feature went away or not (as some other notify features did), and if not if maybe something was wrong or I was doing something wrong.

Other minor issue:
In the "Before posting a problem or suggestion" sticky the guide is linked as such: http://www.animepaper.net/guide/ - which doesn't work. Might want to update it."

Gunslinger Girl

"The anime was good. The manga --- I only read the first volume because there were so many typos and just bad text layout issues with the first volume (the US release). Then it was months and months before the next volume came out... it just wasn't worth my energy. I'll wait and see if maybe they re-release them once they are complete with better attention to detail.

That being said -- the story and art was very good... I just didn't like the production quality of the manga release."

Marry X'mas Vs Happy Holidays

3 years 11 months ago

"I go with "Happy Holidays" for many of the reasons already expressed, mainly: Not everyone celebrates traditional "Christ's Mass" but many still celebrate this time of year either for other religions or just the spirit of the holidays.

I don't think anyone really gets upset about being wished a "Merry Christmas" if they aren't christian, but I can also see how it would get irritating. It can eventually make some people feel isolated with the constant reminder that they may be in the minority."

School Rumble Sequel?

3 years 11 months ago

"The OVA is stuck kind of in the middle of the series (after the Tea Club Camping trip I believe) and won't be a continuation of the series... of course that doesn't make it any less desirable to watch!

In regards to a sequal season -and this seems to jive with kelbear's info- I think more of the story will have to be released (manga wise) before a full second season could be done with any quality. From what I understand, the first season covered about 2 thirds of the currently released manga story lines. I could be wrong - but that was the information I dug up recently after finishing this extremely good series. Oh, and those that haven't watched it yet? Make sure to give it at least 3 episodes. It took me an episode or 2 to get into the styling and characters."

I need help finding a suitable series!

3 years 11 months ago

"Lots of action and giant robots ... hmm... Full Metal Panic was a good suggestion
A recent one might be: Sousei no Aquarion
Ghost in the Shell SAC or GitS SAC 2Gig are also good with a very good story to go with it.
Eureka Seven is entertaining as well."

Do you think it is bad if we like watching anime more than watching films which played by real people?

3 years 11 months ago

"There's nothing wrong with prefering one style over another. Personally, I tend to get more out of animation than most live action TV/Movies just because it is easier for me to suspend disbelief (which is very odd if you think about it). In live action, I usually recognize the actors and often times have a hard time pulling my mind away from the other roles they have played or things about their real life personality. With animation, that doesn't happen nearly as often (except when I recognize some of the voices it can be distracting).
Anime in particular I like because a series tends to be one long story with a start and an end where as most tv shows are one shots (doesn't matter what order you watch them in). I like long stories so it works for me.

The only thing I've seen go wrong with someone watching "too much" anime is that it gets difficult for them to dissasociate what they see in anime from the reality of Japan. Think about it this way --- how accurate to real american culture are USA cartoons and tv shows? I'm not talking about mecha or talking sponges or anything, I just mean the personal interaction stuff and things like that (the stuff that can relate in any context). This is true of any foreign entertainment, but it seems to happen pretty regularly with die hard anime fans (and people in other countries who watch a lot of American TV) more often than most."

Jin-Roh

3 years 11 months ago

"I really liked Jin-Roh. It was an interesting story that included quite a few elements. I think if you liked Escaflowne: The Movie you will like Jin-Roh (same kind of story elements - action, philosophy, drama, etc). It has some really good animation as well. Once you watch it, you'll have to post back and let us know what you think.

I'll have to track down that catalogue ... sounds interesting!"
