This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"Chi is not necessary the same thing as an aura. Chi is more of an internal raw energy while someone's aura carries the character of the individual person. Chi most likely stems from someones aura, but I don't know enough about the differences between chi and auras to really tell you.Sometimes I'm often skeptical whether people who claim to see auras really can. I, like many others, have a weak ability to feel people's energy. Most of us do, though it is more of a subconscious thing than something we actually ever realize we're doing. Most of us will only ever know it as an irrational "vibe" we get from someone caused from our aura reacting to another. As skeptical as I am, many native American shamans as well as mystics from other places claimed to be able to see auras.
I personally met someone who had an uncanny proclaimed ability to see auras that was so good that after she gave a talk at my college (which many people just kind of scoffed and made fun of), she came to one of my friends without even knowing who they were and asked them if someone close to them had died...which was true. The previous day someone in their family had died. She said a few other rather intimate things that were true and despite my skepticism, some of those things were just not the kind of things you can get from subtle clues and nuances of a person.
But who knows...believe or don't, it doesn't really matter."

"Keep in mind I'm speaking as a U.S. resident and gear this argument towards fellow U.S. residents since I know that availability and price in other countries significantly varies.I absolutely do not support bootleg dvds for anime. Putting issues like video quality (which is absolute crap on bootlegs), sound quality (which is also crap on bootlegs), and subtitle quality (which most people will tell you is so spotty, inconsistent, and mostly HORRIBLE...often lacking completely), I hate bootlegs because I love anime. Now I am a firm supporter of fansubs and I have quite a hefty collection of funsubbed anime (still growing), but I also buy all the legitimate R1 and R2 dvds for the series I love that I can. There is definitely a money issue, and until you have a steady job and a significant source of income, buying anime will be very expensive. But here's why the extra money to buy and rent is worth it:
Buying legit DVD's supports the anime industry, the people that made it, and the companies that made the availability of the anime possible. Without the support of fans who are willing to pay for their obsession, the amount of available anime will decline and companies will be less apt to buy increasingly expensive titles from Japan. Now, I also dislike dubs for the most part, but most companies do pretty respectable subs (yeah, not like fancy fan-made hard subs and no neat karaoke, but still decent and overall improving). Buying bootlegs supports nothing. They don't increase availability of anime in your country, they don't increase the amount of anime related merchandise, nor increase TV presence. They don't support the people that made this stuff, and the quality is quite frankly worthless. Your average mediocre fansub is better than some of the best bootleg DVD's around.
So, I buy a lot of anime I've already seen, and I look for sales and deals on anime all the time thus rarely do I need to succumb to $30 prices per dvd...though I also don't buy anime hot off the shelf when it comes out (exception...I bought the limited edition FMA Movie and with the included art/info book, extras, and quality of the DVD...one of the best anime purchases I've ever made). Stick to fansubs if you don't have the money...but don't support bootlegs. This is simply throwing away money for an inferior product that doesn't contribute to the anime community or industry."

"I was wondering when this style would finally make the cut and become default. This new layout is awesome (as I've already been using it for a little while) and the additional functionality is pretty sweet.Great Job and I'm loving it!"

"Why are there rewards? Donations are just that...donations. I'd hate to see a great site like this go down because the community that supposedly supports it isn't willing to help cover the costs of the site they use. Personally, I think a thanks should go out to the staff here for providing one of the best anime wallpaper and scan sites around :D"View
Finding the Gay Gene

"Wow, this thread got a little heated...I have one additional thing to say regarding
and drawing the parallel that this is morally similar to genetically altering babies to our will. If adopting children were simply an issue of choosing what kind of child we want, then yes, your argument would stand as a well drawn moral parallel. This is not the case in practice though. Adopting is more often a choice made for two reasons: 1) A couple is for some reason unable to birth their own child or 2)A couple has a desire to help a child(s) by offering them a good home when they have none. I personally would add a third good reason to adopt that I, myself, have considered: 3) The planet is already over-populated enough. Rather than contribute to the sustenance or growth of the population but still desiring a child, adoption is a way to help take care of the population that is already here.
I agree and this has been mentioned more than once in this thread. Considering the future of a child having to deal with being a social outcast due to their sexual orientation is a horrible justification for either manipulating that "gay" gene or aborting the child. One reason this is not justified is because there is no way to know what that child's life will be like or what opportunities will arise for him/her. What ended up terrible for one person may very possibly work out much better for another.
Another reason this argument cannot be justified is that selecting life/manipulation for a gene like this only fuels the idea that homosexuality is a genetic disease that needs "fixing" rather than accepting it as part of the diversity of humanity."

"First, I'm impressed with the objectiveness and openness with which many people here have approached this issue.I also think that you are deriving similar conclusions to renagadecow and find both sets of ideas intriguing. While I agree with your statement that modern living conditions have altered our evolution by preserving genes disadvantageous to a species and typically are not passed on, I agree with renegadecow in that I do not believe this fact necessarily correlates to the presence or prevalence of homosexuality.
This is a completely new idea to me and I personally am very attracted to this proposed biological-socialogical mechanism. You've ignited a spark and I will now have to look into this idea more thoroughly.
And as for me, I've never had a problem with homosexuality and will never discriminate in any way based upon a person's sexual preference regardless of what type of nature vs. nurture case may be present. Someone earlier pointed out that not aborting fetuses with high potential for homosexuality can have the effect of decreasing or eliminating culturally beneficial genetically-linked social traits (thus decreasing diversity). While I have no idea how linked a homosexual gene would be to these traits, I do agree that decreasing genetic diversity is terrible idea.
Furthermore, I whole-heartily disagree with genetically engineering humans and disagree with many of the motivations behind prenatal genetic screening/testing. Testing for fatal genetic disorders is one thing...testing for specific traits is something quite different. The article makes it seem like exhaustive genetic testing is widespread when it is actually mostly limited to those with a lot of money. Either way, I have a serious fear for a world controlled by genetic discrimination (think Gattaca) if genetic screening and engineering are allowed to become widespread or status quo. I will definitely not be testing my own children and will always be against selecting for better/stronger genes.
(Sorry if my last points are not clear, I wrote this in a hurry)
Oh, and great topic LenasLover ;)

Dattebayo vs SD Project
1 year 5 months ago
"What the hell are you talking about? What does donating for server costs have to do with subbing quality? Hosting your own tracker with a few hundred thousand people on it at all times of the day every day is a pretty costly thing. Fan-subbers may love providing fansubs, but when it starts digging into your own pocket while not getting anything out of it...not many can afford to do that. DB rarely asks for donations and only when they need it. The last time they did so, they only took donations for a total of 2 or 3 days and got enough money to not only cover server costs for a year but with plenty left over to donate to charity. If you prefer SD, I could care less, but don't fault a group for the wrong reasons.
I don't watch Naruto, so I couldn't tell you who does a better job and I sure don't speak Japanese either. The only people able to judge a sub by their translation will be those who do know japanese. You may judge a sub by it's grammar, but not by it's translation otherwise...and that's my 2 cents.

A Need of Love
1 year 5 months ago
"Well of course the second one. If you only love someone because you "need" them, then you don't love them at all. You're merely dependent on them. If you need someone because you "love" them, as long as the love is true, then this is how it should be. Love IS a need. :D"View
